Physical Description: At first glance, Tensei Kaori's youthful features, graceful movements, and musical voice might have one thinking that she would be more successful as a singer than as a Shinobi – that is, until one takes a second look. This woman has an aura that exudes wisdom, strength, and experience. She carries herself with the confidence of a General and moves with the sort of deadly grace only attained by those with highly refined power – and the skill and calm security that comes with knowing one does not have to prove one's strength to anyone.
She keeps her hair pinned up in a unique twist with various sets of poisoned hairsticks sharp as hypodermic needles (color coded to indicate the kind of poison each set contains), and any accessories she chooses to wear can be converted into tools for her jutsu – whether the medicine-containing vial that hangs around her necks, or a particularly shiny pair of earrings. On her face are various seals: the curling, spiraling black seals used by some members of the Tensei clan, and another of her own invention – a black diamond outlined in red, centered on her forehead. When not clad in the traditional garb of the Hokage's office, she dresses for comfort and practicality, choosing mainly comfortable pants, kimono-style tops, sandals, and perhaps a Haori jacket (depending on the weather); she rarely wears the more traditional garb of her Clan now that she is Hokage. She mostly wears combinations of red, white, and black now, though she has been spotted occasionally wearing the blues and grays she was prone to before becoming Hokage.
Personality: In everday life, Tensei Kaori has most often been described as a kind, near motherly figure – especially when dealing with her subordinates or younger relatives. Her gentle voice has the sound of a mother ready to comfort a distressed child (indeed, she has been known to call members of the younger generations “Child” - especially her students). With her patients she is comforting and reassuring – but with a firm hand that has become nearly legendary to those who have been in her care. She puts up with no nonsense from her patients, and has been known to tie patients to their beds – even casting Genjutsu on rare occasion – to prevent them from getting up and escaping before completely healed.
When dealing with administrative matters, Kaori is all business. Calm, dignified, and nearly implacable, her firm hand and open mind make her an ideal diplomat. She runs a tight ship, so to speak, but not in an overly strict manner. She chooses to let calm, dignified authority and mutual respect inspire her subordinates into wanting to follow, rather than using an iron rod to force them. That doesn't mean, however, that she never gets upset. She has always had quite the temper when provoked; she has been known to silence an entire room with just a few words, and one person with no more than a look.
A quick and creative thinker, she has been known to create new jutsu in the middle of a mission simply from being in situations that required them. She does what she has to do when she has to do it, and will put her life on the line in a heartbeat for her comrades, the mission, and the village. While talkative in a way, she rarely expresses her true feelings and tends to keep everything on the inside around other people – much to the chagrin of her assistant/Lieutenant and top student, Akina, who is also one of the few people Kaori will actually open up to.
Likes: The Fine Arts, peace and quiet, reading, practicing medicine
Dislikes: Tomfoolery, loudmouths, disrespect, too much junk food
History: As one of the heirs of the Tensei Clan (second in line to her older brother Kanaye), Kaori was given the best education her clan had to offer from the very beginning. She was immersed in music and the arts, trained in the ways of the Shinobi – and, more specifically, of the Tensei Shinobi – and instructed in the arts of diplomacy, leadership, and mediation from a young age. As her training progressed, she displayed the talent for chakra control and genjutsu use shared by many members of her clan, and when she reached the appropriate age, was enrolled into the Ninja Academy.
As a Genin she was placed on a team with Ichisada Senichi and Adabana Miyoko, under the leadership of Yamanoue Gesshin, who – at the time – was one of Konoha's most prominent Jounin. The team progressed quickly from normal D-rank missions to more difficult tasks, using the unique skills of each of its members to accomplish objectives. One of their most successful tactics was for Kaori to perform as a pop singer under the stage name Kikkai Aika, serving as a distraction or even using her clan's jutsu to cast Genjutsu on the listeners, while her teammates completed the assigned task and made their escape. Ironically, “Aika” became quite famous, and even has a few albums recorded. One can still find old posters and recordings of hers in stores, if one looks hard enough. Many fans were outraged when the pop sensation announced a sudden retirement upon Kaori's enlistment into ANBU.
Shortly before Kaori's promotion to Chuunin, Miyoko sustained an injury during battle that would forever change the future Hokage's life. Frustrated and outraged that there was nothing she could do for her friend and comrade, she began her training as a Medical Specialist under none other than her current Sensei – who taught her more than just Medical Ninjutsu during her time as his apprentice.
It didn't take long for the young Tensei to prove her worth in the Medical field. Her natural talents and the training she had received since childhood made her an ideal Medical Specialist, and it was only a matter of time before she enlisted into ANBU, eventually becoming Commander of ANBU's medical forces. During this time she was in charge of training upcoming medical ANBU, properly dispatching them as needed for missions, and investigating cases alongside Forensics experts.
In her role as ANBU, an on into her career as a Jounin, Kaori found herself in a peculiar working relationship with Hitomebore Kiyoshi of the Sand and Ijiwoharu Kodomo of the Cloud. Together the three would perform missions that affected all three villages, and were vital to forming an alliance between them. This team effort, however, was ended upon Kiyoshi's ascension to the position of Kazekage.
Eventually, though, she knew it was time to move on from ANBU, and took on the role of Jounin. She took on many Genin teams, and even some medical apprentices – the foremost among these being Tokoharu Akina – while performing missions for the village. During the War with the Villages of Grass and Stone, she was one of many Medical Specialists who did double duty – serving as both combat soldiers and medical backup on the field, and treating injured Shinobi in the hospital. It was during this time that she had to treat her own Brother, Tensei Kanaye, for injuries that would soon prove to be fatal despite anything Kaori could do for him. Spurred on by this loss, and determined to protect what her Brother had given his very life for, it was Tensei Kaori who, during the final battle that would decide the war, rallied every ally Shinobi she could find outside the village, healing whom she could, and led the attack on the enemy Ninja within Konoha's walls. This last effort, in combination with the battle led by the Ninth Hokage at the center of the village, served to shatter the enemy forces and resulted in the complete surrender of both Stone and Grass.
It was only after this battle that Kaori learned her parents, Tensei Mamoru and Tensei Kaede, were both killed during the final battle as they fought by the Ninth's side. With the current Leader gone, and the first Heir as well, it was Kaori who would take the reins of leadership as Head of the Tensei – or so everyone thought. The day before she was to be formally instated as the Head of her Clan, Tensei Kaori was informed by the village leaders that she had been chosen to succeed Urashima Seiichi as Hokage. She accepted immediately, passing the position of Leadership of the Tensei to her younger brother, Tensei Katsuro, and was sworn in as the Tenth Hokage the day after the Funeral held for the fallen.
Since her inauguration, Kaori has taken tremendous initiative in rebuilding Konoha, treating the injured, and seeing that life in the Village runs smoothly. She is frustrated at how backlogged the Ninja Administration has become, and despite her efforts to get things there running smoothly once more, there always seems to be something else that requires her attention more urgently.
