Yay. It's good to see there's a thread about this. It was funny. My mother came in one night (the night after it came out -- I was staying at a mates the night it came out) and said "Here's the book son." She handed it to me, with her bookmark on page 203 or so. I put the book next to my bed. Woke up next morning and just... did the book. All that day. Mum comes in after work, asks "Where's my book?" I promptly reply "It's lying on your bed, waiting for you to read it."
Lol.
It's probably sad to say that half of this thread is going to be spoilers, though. So, until more people have read it, I can't say much, apart from my slightly interesting story. XD

Indeed. <SPOILERS!!!> ... ... ... ... ... ... Harry is related to Lily and James Potter! ... ... ... ... Actually, this book was okay. I'm glad it wasn't as long as Order of the Phoenix. I felt that book went on way too long. Half-Blood Prince probably wasn't my favourite... but it was kinda cool. Sectumsempra... wahaha...

Or finding out who the Half Blood Prince is...
I guessed it halfway through the book...turned out to be right.

Yeah. I took my guess right from the start (who J.K. Rowling wanted me to), and as I got further through the book, all fingers seemed to be pointing my way. Mainly thanks to Miss Granger.
Oh well. XD

I think it was too short, and JKR's writing is losing all its feeling. HBP was pure narrative, with no depth or emotion in her writing at all. Needless to say, I was disappointed. It seems like she has to do shocking things to keep her audience's attention nowadays....

Or people could do what I did and wait to read this thread until the've FINISHED the book. Oi.
Yeah. Finished it last night. I agree with K-chan. There was a complete lack of characterization, and some of the crap that happened was just plain pointless.
I definitely would have written the story differently.
I still sort of liked it, but it could have been better. Definitely.
Also, Harry is bizarrely obsessed with Draco.

Yes, yes he is. Of course, he did know what was going on from the beginning, so it's kind of justified in that he wanted to keep an eye on him and make sure he didn't get away with his dastardly scheme.
Or something like that.

Hmmmmm, finished the book bout 6 days ago, and I was honestly kinda dissapointed with it at first. I do agree that J.K. has lost some of the "feeling", but after thinking about it, and consulting with some of my friends, we came to an understnading as to why. The books, as Rowling said, are getting darker, and an unfortunate bi-product of that is the fact that they're losing a lot of their old qualities.
*sigh*
I'm still trying to figure out how on earth the seventh book is gonna work.

I don't think just because something is becoming "darker" it should lose its feeling.
As for Harry's actions being justified... that's what I felt like. And not in a good way. I was almost hoping Harry was all wrong about Draco, because he was being such a little jerk. Just because he has an invisibility cloak he thinks he can do all kinds of stuff....
I hate Harry. I should probably make that statement. I hate Draco, too, but I hate Harry more. Actually, I don't hate Draco as much anymore, because now I feel sorry for him.
I don't think the seventh book is going to work. Not very well.
Anyway. I'm sure I'll read all this after sleeping and be like "way to be, H-Chan, you're retarded."
Seeing as how it's about 5:00AM.
Yeah.

Actually, I agree with you. Snape was wrong about Harry being as arrogant as his father, Harry's worse. He actually thinks he can defeat Voldemort with SIX YEARS of Wizard training - of even being in the Wizarding world - when Dumbledore, who knew more than any other Wizard of their time and was pretty much the only one I'd expect to be able to win against old Voldy, couldn't do it. But noooo, The Great Harry Potter shall surely triumph against the Dark Lord Voldemort by disarming him, turning all his lackeys into teacups, and hitting him with a rather nasty Tickling Curse.
