I suppose it's time to update this thread with the goings on at E3. First of all... the name change. The Nintendo Revolution, for those who don't know, has been renamed the Nintendo Wii. Yes, that is pronounced 'we', as in us. Also as in.... ORC GOING OVER ROLLERCOASTER "WHEEEEEE" XDDDDD Nintendo's press conference at E3 was amazing. Very few details concerning the Nintendo Wii were actually released.... but the focus was less on the console and more on the games. They also spoke of the Nintendo DS. Before getting underway, the conference opened with Shigeru Miyamoto entering, walking on stage, and pulling a Nintendo Wii-mote from his pocket... and he began conducting with it, as behind him, a mini-orchestra on the Nintendo Wii began playing the Legend of Zelda theme! He proceeded to showcase several other games before the conference fully began. Games due out for it include: a new Metroid first-person shooter (which by the way, looks amazing), Super Mario Galaxy, Project H.A.M.M.E.R. (a new franchise), Red Steel (a first person shooter), the Wii Sports series, Super Smash Brothers Brawl... and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (and my friends, does this game make me want to buy a Nintendo Wii? Hell yes!). One of the biggest announcements concerning the Nintendo Wii is that not only does the Wii-mote contain a motion sensor... but the nunchaku-style joystick attachment also contains a second motion sensor. This allows players to use two motion sensors... in one game, a player may move around by moving the nunchaku back and forth, while pointing to enemies on screen. Several other games involve using the controller in ways people have predicted. There's a golf simulator, a tennis game simulator (in which you can forehand, backhand, lob, and even give the ball some topspin. Heck, to SERVE the ball, you mimic throwing the ball up in the air and hitting it), a music conducting game, baseball, a skateboarding game... you name it, they're working on a game for it. The highlight of the conference, for me at least, was The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It was during this game that they announced that the controller had a speaker built into it. During one portion of the demo, those ehind the game showed off a sequence where Link drew his bow and arrow (with the player mimicking his actions... or really, Link mimicking the player's actions). As he pulled the bow tighter, the sound effect came out of the Wii-mote. When he fired his bow, the arrow fired and the sound travelled all the way from the Wii-mote... and the sound effect of an opponent being hit was heard from the screen. So now, the sound has a great amount of depth to it, more than any other console. It could be argued that the experience could be better than any amount of Dolby Surround Sound can replicate. XD Also, the winner of the "Be The First" competition (a competition in which the first person in America gets to play the Nintendo Wii in front of everyone) was announced, and he got to play the tennis game with Shigeru Miyamoto, Satoru Iwata (president of Nintendo) and Reggie Fils-Aime (Executive VP for Sales and Marketing for Nintendo of America). The controller looks like great fun. It looks very intuitive, and talking to my parents about it, my father too admitted that the reason he could never play a PS2 is due to the controller having so many buttons and being so complex. I believe that with a console like the Nintendo Wii, sticking to something a lot more simple and yet still being fun, my whole FAMILY could get into games; even my mother! It goes without saying that I am seriously looking forward to the Wii. The games for it look GREAT. Sure the graphics may not be entirely the best... but the games seriously look fun. And who knows? Maybe some day I'll be posting about how my mother beat my high scores...

Oooo, fun! Looks like this'll be the 3-rd Gen console of choice for me, too!
Plus the PS3's 500 dollars. >_>

In spite of the unfortunate name change (rofl, Twinnie, orc on a roller coaster) ... the Wii sounds awesome.
I really need to get me one. Definitely. Definitely need to get me one. *Rain man moment XD*
Umm.
Darn it. I want to see this E3 stuuuuuff....

Lol. The name change was funny. When Fils-Aime stepped up and started talking about the Revol.... sorry, the Wii, the first thing he said was "Concerning the name change... thank you to everyone who wrote good things about the name when they heard it. Both of you."
The crowd laughed. XD

XD Yeah.
I keep wanting to call it the Nintendo Wifi.
I guess it KINDA makes sense, considering how the controllers work....

Welp, I think I ought to revive this thread with a little comment of...
[glow=red,2,300][shadow=red,left,300]THE WII WTFPWNS!!!!!!![/shadow][/glow]
Phewf... Well, its official, the Wii is here, and it is amazing. Twilight Princess is possibly one of the strongest launch titles ever, and after playing it on the Wii I really can't imagine playing it on the GC.
Wii sports is simply amazing. The gameplay is insanely simple, and theres not a ton to it. But the game itself is perfect. Its the only game where I've gotten so many non-gamers to get up and actually fight over who would play next for about 8 hours on Thanksgiving.
The system had a great launch, and are spamming a TON of amazing titles in the early quarter 07.
If you don't have a Wii, I'd reccomend trying to find one, I can guarantee you you won't regret it one bit.

Lol. I want one too. I have decided, however, after much consideration, not to get one -- yet. Not for a while; maybe a month or so. While my recent employment allows me to get one if I want, putting things in perspective, the current generation of consoles is nowhere near dead yet. I've still got lots of games on my current system to get through: Resident Evil 4, Final Fantasy XII, Kingdom Hearts II, Guitar Hero II... and while it's easy to get caught up in the buzz of a new console (especially one as hyped and awesome as the Nintendo Wii), I think I'll put on a different hat and hold off for a while. Still, I can imagine it's a great console, and once I have money coming out of my ears (which funnily enough, will be in about a month or two. Lol), I'll probably get one. One of my friends is getting one (I'm paying for most of it as a 21st birthday present), and I'll probably get myself a controller for it -- which works well, since it means I'll have another controller for when I get my own, so my family can play. Good thing about the Wii is that there are SO MANY good titles for it over the next few months. Most of the release titles alone are worth the admission: Twilight Princess, Wii Sports (which comes with the console anyway), Tenkaichi Budokai 2, Red Steel, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz... Wii Play and Warioware: Smooth Moves should become available at some point... and not to mention next year we're looking forward to Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid: Corruption, Super Smash Brothers Brawl... there are so many killer titles, this console'd make me a poor man. Nothing against Nintendo: truly looking forward to playing it. But my PlayStation 2's not dead yet.

Yeah. For me, it's just a matter of practicality. With my schedule, I hardly have free time at all. What I do have I'd have to choose between spending on a Wii and spending time here.... and well, my friends come before video games. Besides, I'm not rolling in the cash like our good friend Mazzykins ( ! <3 for my Nii-sama), and a good percentage of what I make goes straight into my gas tank. I suppose that's what I get for going to a college that forces students to commute. Anyways, it looks like an insanely awesome console, and I while I can wait to get my hands on one, I'll sure enjoy it when I can get it. ^^

I want a Wii! But I have the same problem as K-sama. ;___; And my parents flat out told me they're not buying any more game consoles. XDXD So ... yeah. It'll be a while before I can save up enough to get one...
Anyone hear about the stupid thing about people throwing the Wii-motes into their TVs? O____o

Yeah. Honestly, I think if you don't know how to keep a proper grip on something while swinging your arm around like a maniac - and how to control yourself so that you're not bordering on violent spasms - you simply got what was coming to you. ^^;
