I thought I'd run a poll and see what people think (at least, the two of you who even remotely care XD).
I'm interested in the big battle of the rhythm genre that's headed our way: the release of Guitar Hero III and Rock Band will showcase the greatest war since... Blu-Ray and HD-DVD! lol
Who're you rooting for? Which would you purchase?
Guitar Hero III Pros: * Well established series. * Features Slash, of Guns 'n Roses fame... and Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine. * New and improved Battle Mode, where you can earn attacks and unleash them against your opponents! * Cheaper than the competition! Cons: * Guitar play only. * Under new management, new company in charge (which could POSSIBLY mean this is where the series goes downhill). Track-list Stand-outs ZZ Top - La Grange Guns 'n Roses - Welcome To The Jungle (!) Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast Tenacious D - The Metal Dragonforce - Through The Fire and Flames (!!) Weezer - My Name Is Jonas Metallica - One (!!!) Kiss - Rock and Roll All Nite Living Colour - Cult of Personality (with new guitar solo!)
Rock Band Pros: * All new gameplay, encompassing multiple instruments (singing, guitar, and drums). Up to four players, one on each instrument, with a second guitar!... involve more of your friends! * All new guitar controller with ten buttons. * Lots of downloadable tracks, including full albums! * New modes, including Endless Setlist and Band World Tour - a more developed career mode, further determine the path your band will take to stardom! Two score measurements are taken now - money, and fans. Bigger cities and bigger venues mean more this time round... Will you stay true to your fans and play for the glory, or go for the money and sell-out? Cons: * Not as strong a track list (...so far!) * Looks to be more expensive than Guitar Hero III * PlayStation 2 version doesn't have any extra content - due to the amount of downloadable content for the game, the premium version would be the PS3 or 360 version. Track-list Stand-outs Rush - Tom Sawyer Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead Or Alive Metallica - Enter Sandman Weezer - Say It Ain't So Blue Oyster Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper Foo Fighters - Learn To Fly Coheed and Cambria - Welcome Home The Clash - Should I Stay Or Should I Go
So vote today! Even if you're not a gamer... vote anyway! I'm interested in seeing which attracts people more: a stronger track-list, or more instruments?

As I (sadly) have not been able to play Guitar Hero, I feel unqualified to participate in this poll. I don't know anything about the strengths and/or weaknesses of the GH series gameplay, and thus I can't say anything on whether Rock Band will be an improvement, or just overly complicating an originally cool concept. Of course, if it were "Which would you buy right NOW, should you have the finances (I don't)?" Well, I'd buy Guitar Hero. Because I own neither PS3 nor X-Box 360. But I don't think that's a really valid reason when we're comparing the two games themselves - or something like that, anyways.

Adding in my sleepy two cents, since I just read an article about it last night/ this morning
Guitar Hero controllers will NOT!!!! be compatible with Rock Band.
other than that....I dunno. I'm in the same boat as K-sama.
Woot for Bon Jovi, though

Although through the fire and flames seems like a great choice I have a feeling it will not turn out good for GH III. Rock band looks most promising because they have actual fender replica guitars and ten buttons better suited for "soloing" now while the game has very very limited connection to real guitar playing I enjoy the challenge of having ten buttons and look forward to how they will place them. For GH III to stand up its gonna need something extra, the battle mode will add some spice to the game but it might not be enough to match up with rock band. On the other hand it may be hard for rock band to match up to the already rapidly growing love and fandom for the GH series since GH III will mark the fourth title in the series. So as for now I do not cast a vote because its gonna be close till the games drop and we can fully evaluate.

You place good points, Zeth.
Having said that... I cast my vote for Guitar Hero III, not just for Dragonforce, but for other reasons as well. The main reason is actually the set up of the drums on Rock Band. There are only four drum pads... it lacks the fifth drum pad off to the side of the snare drum for a hi-hat.
Now, granted, in real life you could set up your drums the way you want... but your basic drum kit would at the very least consist of a hi-hat, snare, hi-tom, low-tom, and cymbal. With only four pads, playing just... isn't right. PercussionFreaks/DrumMania got it. Five drums... you could pretty much learn to play drums on that set-up. It's been stated that you could learn to play drums on the Rock Band set-up... but I really don't see how. And if you wanted to learn to play drums... go buy a drum kit. XD Learning to play real drums is only mildly harder than Percussion Freaks or Rock Band, so spend the extra dosh. XD
The vocals don't really get a say. lol. Vocals may be alright. I know for sure that it means a few of my friends who are girls would be more likely to play (as they can't play any instruments LOL).
I do have to admit, the cool little touch of being able to freestyle specific sections (like a bar or two) is a nice one. I'd spam that with my own fills all the time, it'd be great. But apart from that... the only thing really standing out for Rock Band is it's guitar play.
If I wanted to play some fake guitar, I'd go play Guitar Hero. Lol.
I find Rock Band's only strong point really is the inclusion of the drums and vocals.... which haven't been executed to the best of their ability, quite frankly. The track list is much weaker than Guitar Hero III's -- while there are some decent songs for RB, there are some VERY KILLER tracks making an appearance in GH3.
If they manage to land some Dream Theater, however, my attitude will change. XD

Maz, your points are very valid as well. I have to agree that even though in rock band you have more instruments to choose from it will all come down to the guitar eventually. In that aspect I think it will be hard for rock band to catch up to GH as far as popularity goes since GH has already had some really good songs under its belt, but if rock band uses the download part right then you could possibly end up having a lot bigger song list to choose from if they make it available. I also have a feeling Through the Fire and the Flames is gonna be ridiculously hard and not even fun like Jordan was, but alas I still have high hopes for GH and RB.

I can't decide between the two of them, so I didn't vote. You didn't have a "both." :\ I guess I should vote for GHIII since I have no PS3. *sob*
Yeh. Um. Honestly, I like the track list on both. ^^; D-Force is good... but I also like Weezer, Rush, Blue Oyster Cult, Metallica, Bon Jovi, and the Foo Fighters... I mean, I would get it just for "Don't Fear the Reaper" .... I love that song. Come on, baby, don't fear the reaper... doo doo doo....
I don't really know how Rock Band works... but did Zeth say there's 10 buttons!? Omg, there's no way I could that. I'm totally retarded. I like the idea of the inclusion of the vocals... but I'm not too sure about it.
So yeah. Um. Both or neither, it seems. Though if I get one, it'll more likely be GH:III, 'cause... like I said... only have a PS2.

lol. Well called, Zeth. XD You know, the main reason I'm looking FORWARD to the Dragonforce song is just because it's so ridiculously hard. I'm hoping some of the songs in the game really kick my butt. XD Having said that... agreed, Jordan wasn't fun. Angry wall of colours FTL. THE ONLY PRESCRIPTION IS MORE COWBELL, TWINNIE. The deal with the ten buttons is that there are five in the normal place, and then another five closer to you, mainly to be used during massive solo sections. It's not like there are ten buttons all grouped next to each other (which sucks... that's how they should be! That'd be MUCH cooler!)... just one group of buttons, and then another one further along the neck. The downloads for Rock Band... yes, that's true. That will be good to see, I guess. If they get some good songs. I've heard that Metallica - One is actually going to be in Rock Band as well, as a downloadable... at the very least, they are going to get some more 'Tallica, there's a whole The Who album, as well as some Grateful Dead. As long as they have some Dream Theater, I might give it a shot. XD Wonder if they have any songs that will require double-bass pedals, and if so... how will that be implemented? (for example, Metallica - One requires a double bass pedal in real life!) Vocals would be funny. I would make Twinnie sing to me all day. H'OKAY? H'OKAY!! XD Let's change the question, as a few people have skipped the voting due to the hiccup... ... Let's pretend you already have a PlayStation 3 and X-Box 360, and thus have the hardware to play either of the games. Which game would you purchase, if you could only purchase one?

NEVAR. Halo ruins lives.
I ended up voting for GH III, if only because I've been wanting to get into playing that for awhile anyways. XD
