It would be so fun if you and I faced off in a first-person shooter. Or we could team up against other people.....or something.

Okay, as a random question I'd like to pose to anyone who comes to the Video Games Threads... which controllers for which consoles do you think have been best, and why?
I got into a conversation with my mates about which controllers we thought were best... and one of them said the X-Box controller was awesome. I think it's okay... BUT IT HAS AN 8-WAY D-PAD. THAT IS BAD. It's like... you try to hit up, but you hit it slightly off, so you hit up-right. "Use. Health Potion." "NOOO. MY HEALTH WAS PRETTY MUCH FULL DANGIT."
I've had some time to adjust to the X-Box controller, and it's not too bad. I think Nintendo were onto something when they said "Controllers are becoming too complex these days: there are too many buttons." And when you take a look at the X-Box controller, you begin to think this is exactly what he was talking about. XD There are buttons all over the place!
Mind you, I suppose the N64 controller had lots of buttons on it.
My favourite of all-time goes with the PlayStation controller. A simple 4-way D-pad, with the four face buttons, Start and Select... and L1+L2+R1+R2. Two analog sticks as well.
lol Any other takers? XD

Hmmmmm... I've talked with me friends bout this as well. And we've almost always come to the conclusion that the GC controllers are our favorite. The XBOX controllers are made for people with my size hands (a.k.a. - enormous) and I can't really effectively use the bigger ones. I find them way too bulky, and the buttons are at an odd location that shifts with the controller type.
PS2 is a big improvement over the XBox, but I still think it losses to the GC. Wile there aren't really any BIG thing I can complain about with the PS2 controllers, I still haven't gotten to like the 4 trigger buttons. I've tried and tried to get to like them, but I just can't. It's a really good concept, but they honestly get on my nerves at times. THe analogue also tends to die pretty quickly when playing games that require good use of them. Its been a little while since I've actually played a PS2 (seeing as how mine be dead.)
But the GC, I really can't find anything to really complain about it. I love the button set up, good placing for fighting games that require button combo's (such as Soul Cal. 2) analogue and 4-way d-pad. and the c-stick (hardly ever used, but not in the way, and very useful WHEN used) The two trigger buttons... ooooooh, I do have one quarrel with GC controllers, I dislike the location of the Z-button. Good idea, kinda hard to use. Other than that, I love em. While many people complain that they're too small, I'd hafta dissagree. I have enormous hands, and they work fine for me. SO I guess thats just my loads of 2 cents.

Ooh, actually, thinking about it... the one thing I don't like about PS2 controllers is the fact that there are two ways to hold it (much like the N64 controller). You can either hold it comfortably in both hands (with the palm of your hands resting on the bottom part of the controller)... or you can adopt the ideal fighting game position, and have three fingers covering the four face buttons. This unfortunately makes it harder to handle the shoulder buttons on the right... but it allows you to adeptly handle, say, King's multi-part throws in Tekken 3, or other things.
Wow. Maybe I should be a controller designer. PlayStation 3 looks like they could use one. Unless they had long-range boomerang attack under it's main usages... XD

YOU WOULD! Really. Eeeeeh. *Jumps up and down on seat* I wanna be typing Naruto interactive fic stuuuufff. I mean...this is cool and all...but ehhh!!! So...as of yet Mazz...you're a game reviewer AND a controller designer. That'd look good on the CV. XD "Hi my name is Mazz, and I designed the controller on the PS4 console" XD. Hmm...well I've only ever held my PS controllers one way...I can't think of any others...except what you mentioned. But...I've never been one to use Kings throws. Meh. Hmm... (does not know name except Iro and UchihaJyounochi XD) You make some really good points, for a topic regarding controllers ^_^. But then again, it can be a make or break part of a console. I agree whole-heartedly to what you've said. And also agree with the whole 4 way D-pad. I've had the same thing happen in Fable...go to use one thing...well for me it was trying to assign things to specific buttons...say Follow expression to left, and end up going back a few menus. VERY frustrating.

Yeah.
So, what do people think about the Hot Coffee issue? It hasn't particularly affected us over here... but to be honest, I think it's STUPID. Yes, so putting that content in there may have been a stupid thing to do. But Rockstar decided to not have the content in the final game. And in order to access the content, you have to do so much anyway! Purchasing a Gameshark, finding the codes, inputting them and using cheats and stuff to actually GET to the dodgy content, and then apparently you don't see any 'bits' anyway.
Theoretically speaking, the content isn't even IN the game anyway! It's on the disc, but not in the GAME. I don't know. Maybe just 'coz I'm a 19-year-old video gamer my opinion is slightly biased... but it's a stupid thing to get all fussy over.
My two cents. XD

You're talking about the dodgey San Andreas right? About how they APPARENTLY put...certain...scenes...in the game...but then the turned around and made them non-accesible. Well...its already an R18 game...and you have to input cheats to access them...whats the big deal ^_^

Well, over in the States, they use a different rating system. It got given a M rating... but then after the Hot Coffee scandal, it got plastered with AO. Basically our equivalent of R18.
I suppose it should've gotten the AO rating in the first place... but I still think it's rubbish. Rating a game up because of content NOT in the game.
Maz: Oooh, I'm making a movie, but I'm gonna cut out the sex scene in it. I've decided the film and story doesn't need it anymore. ESRB: I'M SORRY IT MUST BE R18 THERE WAS A SEX SCENE IN IT. Maz: But it's not even in the film, mate... I chucked it out... it's not part of the film. ESRB: SORRY SORRY EXPLICIT SEX SCENE DETECTED YOU ARE DENIED. Maz: ... pff.... ESRB: ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US. HA HA HA.

Thats the one. So...does this not have a specific topic or??? I mean...off topic gaming thread...meh...never mind. So far Chrono triggers cool...although I hate being where I am at the moment...so bleak and the music...represents that.
