Well, technically, according to the first post of the thread, it's for new releases... gaming conventions and information... imports, accessories and info.... and for anything else non-game title related. So, I guess in a sense, about consoles themselves.
In which case... I GOT AN XBOX...
...wow, that is so lame. Lol. Some computer shop over here (DSE) recently opened up, and they had a massive opening party... and they were selling X-Boxes cheap (NZ$198, down from the RRP of $279 or so).
Conversation between my father and I: Kagemaru: Would you like to get an X-Box? Maz: Dunno. Do YOU want to get an X-Box? Kagemaru: Well, is $198 a good price for one? Maz: Well, they're usually about $279, so yeah, I'd probably say it's a decent price. Kagemaru: Good, we'll get one then. Maz: o______o ((You're the coolest.))
Lol. It's a bit like my memory stick... in which Dad talked himself into buying one for me too. Now he's gone and bought an X-Box. And it was his choice, not mine. XD
They also tried to sell us the warranty for an extra $20? $30? I can't remember... but the guy said "For an extra $20, we can add an extra two years onto the warranty of that. If the lens breaks, it costs about $100 to replace it." Now, he does speak truth, and under normal circumstances we probably would've taken that warranty. But the X-Box 360 is due out soon... and we figured, if the X-Box breaks, we'd rather just ditch it and buy the new model. And besides, we've had our PS2 for, like, three years now, and it hasn't broken at all. I probably won't use the X-Box as much... so we figured, meh, it's all good. So we spent our warranty money on purchasing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. XD
I also have Halo 2. I tried looking for the first one, but could not find it. Alas, woe is me.

*is jealous*
Thats awesome! My dad'd never buy an XBox, the bum!
Good move on the warranty, what with all three of the next-gen systems coming soon. Although I wish I had gotten the warranty on my PS2... poor thing died a slow and painfuil death...

Yep. Most definitely. I keep having these weird dreams... of war, of death. I can feel it's effect on me... like a welling feeling of hatred, planted in my heart... growing, spreading through every inch of my body... corrupting my soul.
Oh, wait, no, that's just the dark side of the Force. My mistake...

Heheh, not a Xbox fan either. have one... but its mostly just used as a giany paper-weight.
It got lucky with the H-game, otherwise it'd never flew. Not quite sure it destroys lives, although I do know other games that do...
Personally, I'm a Nintendo Fanboy all the way!

I was reading the first post of this thread, and noticed that it said that this is where to post about gaming conventions and such. So, I guess.... this is where I go on to talk about... ...the Electronic Entertainment Exposition! (otherwise known as E3) I've been watching the different press conferences for each of the three big companies present here (Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft) and numerous videos and trailers for both the consoles and many games due out for them. Over the next day or so I'll be posting around quite a bit here in the Video Game Forums... so either head on over to Gamespot or watch out for what I have to say! (or.... you know, ignore it XD)

Thread updated. I feel like I've violated this old hag of a thread, but I figure it much more relevant to change it than to leave it alone rotting in a corner. So as a result, I've updated this thread to become the new General Gaming Chat thread. On top of its previous news, feel free to post here in regards to just anything you're generally doing with video games nowadays. Whether you've found a new game love, downloaded a demo, or if you just want to tell us how far you're going through a game but don't think it merits an entire new thread... this is the place to post. If you want to make a new thread for it, go right ahead (say in a moment of weakness you purchased a 360, feel free to post it in that thread)... this just provides a general, more social area where you can keep us up to date on your latest gaming exploits. ---- Having read page 6 of this thread... man, am I glad I didn't get that warranty for the original X-Box. To be completely honest, since getting my PlayStation 3 (and also my PS2 back), I haven't played it at all. My cousin came down a couple of months ago (when I first got my PS3) and because Sorien had my PS2, X-Box was the only way we could keep entertained. Man, we got bored of Halo so quickly... lol. It's kinda funny 'cos I've had it for three years now, according to this thread. And one potential extended warranty later, I'm afraid to say, that the X-Box has come full circle... and is now sitting in the same box it was purchased in over three years ago. Yep, that's right... the X-Box has been packed away. In fact, a fair number of DVDs are sprawled over it, as if to hide the fact it ever existed. It only ever got a few games played on it. Fable, KOTOR I, Halo... half a Tenchu game, and Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball. That was it. So, rest in peace dear X-Box. Maybe some day in the future, should I ever lay my hands on Fable or any other mildly decent game shall I consider thy resurrection. ---- I'll post something a little more interesting/recent tonight when I get to work. I'm just about to finish up and am so incredibly tired... -_- I just thought it interesting that it was over three years ago that I purchased my X-Box and it now sits packed away in a box. Maybe I should use it as a DVD player on one of the other televisions...

So now the update I was hoping to do last night but didn't get around to doing... XD ----- Since finishing Soul Calibur 4, I've been tearing through a couple of other games I picked up at the same time. The following are just some quick thoughts on the games I'm currently playing at the moment (mainly I can't be bothered creating an entirely new thread for each particular game). * Soul Calibur 4: Just finished with this. Not too bad a game, though online mode sucks bad. Since finishing I haven't played it... might do okay at the next time the Boyz come over. There's very little replay value at the moment for it though... no real drive to go through and master all the characters - unlike SC2, where I was king of all. XD Rated 7.9/10. * Resistance: Fall of Man: The first game I plugged in once I'd finished with SC4. First-person shooter. To be truthful, this game is a serious disappointment. I guess a year or so ago it might've been okay - really good for a launch title. However, nowadays, it just doesn't match up to the brilliance of CoD4. Resistance might've been good for it's time, but it is by no means a classic, nor a timeless wonder. Hopefully it's sequel will be far better than this game... the game's worse than Halo, for crying out loud. :-\ Once I loaded this game up, I think I only played it for about half an hour before realising I just couldn't stand it anymore. Save your money for CoD4 instead. Rated 4.8/10. * Motorstorm: This game is fun. XD Once I ejected Resistance from the drive, Motorstorm went in next. Motorstorm's a good game. Driving/racing. Worth the price tag, given it's age... as one of the first titles out for PS3, you'd think the game isn't that great. Wrong. I'm glad I bought it - cheers you right up after playing the farce that is Resistance. There's something very satisfying about this rugged off-road racer. Perhaps it's the big crashes, or the slow motion effects. Furthermore, the graphics in this game are actually very good - set in Monument Valley, Arizona, there's loads of dust effects. Just an all-round awesome game. Load times are a bit on the medium/long side though... perhaps it should've come with an option to install data on the hard disk? Then again, all games should... XD Rated 7.8/10. * The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion: Another gem of a game. RPG. You kinda get the feeling this is the sort of thing Fable was aiming for. Oblivion is the fourth game in the long running Elder Scrolls series. It's a first-person game set in a fantasy world... very reminiscient of the earlier RPGs that came out for PC like Dungeon Master or Ultima. Very good game. Recommended... I might write a bit more about it as I get through it (I've been at work all week this week so haven't had much time to play it unfortunately). Hopefully someone else out there is had a crack at it... otherwise I'd advise any next-gens who haven't had a go to do so. Not yet rated, though it's looking pretty good so far.... -----

Update time... the next few games are some others that I haven't mentioned yet but have had the joy of playing.
* PixelJunk Monsters: Tower defense strategy game. Available only on PS3. Anyone who's played Tower Defense in Warcraft III, Starcraft, Age of Empires or anywhere else will be familiar with the concept of this game. I've always liked these strategy games. The game isn't too difficult - though, if you're trying to clear all the stages without losing any health, the game is notoriously unforgiving. While I'd admit the game is frustrating when trying to get a perfect score ... it's still loads of fun. I've lost numerous hours to this game trying to get absolute perfects on the rounds. In fact, that perhaps may be part of what makes it so addictive and time consuming, is the strive for absolute perfection and preservation of your little beasties. There is a two-player mode available in the game. I'm hoping next time one of the Boys comes over, they'll be willing to grab a second controller and aid me in protecting my island from angry spiders and whatever other monsters the game throws at me. XD Furthermore, there is an expansion pack - PixelJunk Monsters: Encore - also available, which adds another 15 or so levels for play. While I'd consider the custom maps in Warcraft III to be the ideal tower defense experience, I felt PixelJunk Monsters was a nice little purchase... especially given the price of it too. Rated 7.8/10
* Warhawk: "First" person shooter. Okay, it's third person, but the gameplay style is more closely associated with your typical FPS - in particular, the game's a sort of hi-tech Battlefield (2142?). Every boy loves a war game. XD The game is an online only game. That said, the game is very fun. In typical FPS fashion, you take on your opponents in a multitude of (mostly team) game modes - capture the flag, a radioactive core retrieval game, and a few others I haven't yet checked out (I only bought the game yesterday XD). Much like the recent wave of FPSes (all influenced by Battlefield), you pick a spawn point and gear up, perhaps choosing to jump in one of the game's numerous vehicles or jets, and head out to take on your foes in all-out war. Unlike Battlefield, there aren't any classes to choose from, but there are a multitude of weapons you can hoard and easily select, so it works out fine. As is to be expected, maps include up to 32 players, and the rounds I've been in seem to have at least 20 players, so matches have never felt empty and lonely. The game offers some pretty intense action - as the "original" Warhawk was a futuristic flight combat/simulator for the original PlayStation, there are dogfights galore with all sorts of hi-tech weapons you can pickup. That doesn't render ground vehicles entirely useless, though - tanks and jeeps can dominate the battlefield too. Battle is never very far away (especially given the speed of Warhawks) and never gets boring. In combination which flak turrets and other defensive mechanism, the game is a fun battle-fest... all in beautiful high-definition and surround sound. There are a couple of expansions which add features and equipment to the game - jetpacks and dropships. I've downloaded these expansion packs (at a price, of course, but it's not too expensive), but as I've only had the game for a short time, I haven't yet been able to use these features. The game supports the PS3 Trophy system, which have some very cool awards you can win - I got an award last match for driving into an enemy base and evacuating my teammate who'd captured the flag. I drove him all the way back to my base and he captured the flag, thus giving me the trophy of "Taxi Driver". XD There seem to be some other cool ones too - shooting a Warhawk out of the sky with a tank cannon, scoring two separate kills with a jeep by running someone over and shooting another foe with its mounted machine-gun, calling in a precise airstrike on an enemy dropship (in mid-air!), or swatting a jetpack-equipped enemy by flying into him with your vehicle of choice - as well as your usual progression through the ranks trophies. Trophies combine with badges and ribbon achievements you can attain throughout the game, so there's always plenty of things to do as you lay waste to your foes. The game comes in one of two forms - you can either download it on the PlayStation Store (limited to your PSN account only), or purchase it in disc-form (costs a little more but can be played with different accounts). I opted for the disc format, so if any of my mates feel like trying it out they can. I might miss the game though... XD While, yes, Warhawk seems merely the latest in a long string of similar game-styles that have existed for years, that doesn't make it any less fun. It's engaging and even as a multiplayer-only affair, I'd consider it worth a purchase if you love shooter games. Loads of fun, I believe this game will light up my screen quite regularly for the next few months. Rated 8.7/10

* Dad and I got 100% on a song in Rock Band - both of us on Expert, of course. lol. No combos broken, either... so we pretty much pwned the song. It's one thing to get gold stars in a song (which we generally get on some songs, I'll get 99% with the occasional 100%, and he'll get 98% or something to that effect)... but to not miss a single note on more than one instrument? Fully pwned. Haha. * I got Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. It's pretty fun. My only gripe with it.... is that it's at home while I'm here at work. LOL.... Unfortunately I'm working a fair chunk, so I won't be able to play it as much as I'd like to (from start to finish in a sitting or two, haha).... but is very fun to play. There are multiple different versions out, with each of their own advantages - PS2, Wii, PSP, PS3 and 360.... so with any luck, my mates will pick up a copy for one of the different consoles instead of the PS3, so we can discuss differences (the last thing we all need is four PS3 copies of the game... XD). Will rate when I've had more time with it...
