Heylo again. ^^ Ok, seeing as Kiba is going to be my very first cosplay ever, and I;m very nw to the whole cosplaying world as you all most likely know by now, I have another question. How many of you stay in character while cosplaying? Do you feel that it's a must or it can be ignored?

Staying in character is never nessecary, although I find it to be incredibly fun. If your new to the series or the character you're going to be cosplaying, I'd reccomend not trying to stay in character, seeing as how you most likely dun know very much bout the characters character... ... ...
...
Anyways. I try to stay in character if I know the character well. Like when I was Zabuza at Otakon last summer, I tried to refrain from laughing too much or from being my usual crazy self. I met one of the best Shika's ever. He was so lazy, it was awesome... He didn't wanna do anything. He just kinda leaned against the wall and stared at the sky! ^.^ So honestly, if you wanna have some fun, I'd suggest trying to stay in character. It's a lot of fun for you and your friends.

As Utena, I dueled pirates and, when someone proposed to me, I pointed to my friend, who was cosplaying Anthy, and said I was already "engaged". The cosplayer looked all sad and her friends were laughing, it was fun. So in-characterness is always a good thing, but the more natural it is, the better. I was running across the con half the time trying to chase down other cosplayers.

its always fun when you eat,its hard to stay in character,i was Heather Mason last year,so to stay in character,instead of eating with my knife i used as protection..oi. But its always fun to stay in character as long as people know who you are*fades into lonely memory of heather*...it was a cruel question world.
But its fun to stay in character,but like UchihaJyoonochi said,for your first cosplay,you should just concetrate on having fun,for me i've always had prob with staying in character with pics.....and eating....-_-;;

The way I see it, if you see someone sitting around eating, it's "cosplayer break time" so they probably won't be in character, they're just sitting around taking a rest from the con. We didn't do that very often at Megacon. Neither eating nor randomly sitting around. Not for lack of food or time, though....we just...didn't.

I agree with Kaori. When me and my friends were eating or just chilling (although it wasn't that often) we really couldn't stay in character.

i wouldn't want to stay in character while in my sasuke costume-_-,....since i'm like him at sad/mad times..*just leave me alone,i'd rather not get to know you type,and hateful*Because its me,and not the character,i would never be nice,though i'm not like that all the time.personality varies with mood and surronding people.i.e,friends. I guess the closest you are to their personality,the easier it gets to stay in character?
but staying in character is moe for cosplay skits,when you walk around in costume with your friends,it really shouldn't matter,as long as your having fun^^.

ok, I guess that's true. Thanks for that, it was good for me to think over. I think if I do decide to stay in character, Kiba won't be so hard, seeing as when he's around Hinata and such he's not so loud and rough as when he's around say Naruto. ^^
It should be fun though, and hopefully I just won't get pulled over my some real in character cosplayer, I've heard stories of that before...oooh, sounds kinda scary for someone as shy as me ^^'

awww... powah to dah shy people!! Yah Kiba's a pretty cool character, he's got a really fun personality to play. On one hand he's really loud and crazy (like you said), but he's also really calm a thoughtful at other times! Makes sure to protect any puppies joo see... ;D

Sometimes it's fun to do funny in-character stuff.... like playing Go Fish as Tsunade...heh heh heh. If I see any of you at a con when I am dressed as Tsunade feel free to challenge me to a game of Go Fish.

I like the "already engaged" story above. ^_^
Funny 'in character' moments:
1. Gathering Naruto cosplayers at Metrocon dressed as Gai-sensei. I was 100% in character and ended up luring about 30 people for pictures, yelling, "Cosplay is youth! Yosh! Let's run into the setting sun!"
2. I cosplayed as Asuma the day before at the same convention. A girl dressed as Shikamaru played chess with me while we waited for friends. I would make a move and sudden heard someone yelling at me to hold still because they were taking a photo. ;p

I wish I could have been there!!! *cries cause my mom said I couldn't go at the LAST SECOND! As in, a few days before* Do you have any pics of the chess game?
Being in character for Tsunade and Tayuya will be hard because I'm not anything like them. I don't cuss and I don't gamble. Perhaps I'll just have to poke fun at them and do things like obsessively play go fish with people as Tsunade.....or something. *shrugs*

I've been pretty in character for Shikamaru and Zaku...because apparently if I was a guy, I would at least have the personality of Shikamaru with a bit of Zaku. I've been in character for Nidaime but it's not that hard to act like a dead guy that doesn't speak much. ;P I think getting in character is fun but not required. ^__^ Sometimes it can be embarrassing...but you're already dressed like them so what's to be embarrassed about? On another note, I once went with my friend to UshiCon as Shikamaru and we played Go! I have a picture somewhere with me doing that thinking stance that Shikamaru does. It's kind of cool but I looked too much like a girl in that pic. ;_;

Being the Sound people will be funny.... lounging around and glaring at anything that moves. Oh yeah, and "insulting" each other. Lol. Being in character is really cool, but it definitely takes practice. ^^
