Kaori just nodded, taking notes on her clipboard. It seemed he wasn't likely to divulge that sort of information willingly. Not that the information itself mattered all that much; she already had that taken care of thanks to the boy's confessions while under Genjutsu, and her own research. No, there was a different motive behind her questioning right now. "I see," she said with a nod as Akina returned, pushing something that was currently covered up on a small, squeaky cart. "It's a shame you couldn't give me more information. It could affect my ability to detect any possible problems, as well as your own ability to function as a shinobi. Of course," she added casually, "I'm quite sure you wouldn't voluntarily... withhold information. No loyal citizen of Konoha would lie to his Hokage so. Now then, it's time to continue. Go ahead and lie down for me."

Laying back, Utsuro could not help thinking things were NOT going well. Everything the Hokage was saying, the questions she was asking, she was dodging around the perfect truth just as much as he was, it seemed. And her tone was almost..accusational. "With as many times and places I've been in the hospital...poked and prodded and.." The boy shivered involuntarily and eyed the squeaky cart suspiciously. "If there was something wrong with me, it would have been found out by now.." He wasn't sure what to tell her of the 'withholding information' part. He certainly wouldn't lie to the Hokage, or give her any reason to mistrust him...but.. Family secrets were family secrets, Hokage or not. He could only wait to see what occurred next.

"There are many things that cannot be learned with so-called 'poking and prodding'," Kaori said simply as Akina began rapidly rubbing what looked like a sheet of paper in her hands, "things that can be just as dangerous to a shinobi as those that can - if not more so." And I've certainly learned more just now than any amount of poking and prodding, she added to herself. "Go ahead and lift up your shirt for me," she instructed simply, as though none of the previous exchange had happened.

"Yes Hokage-dono." This part was easy enough to comply with, at least. Raising up the blue fabric of the hospital shirt, the boy did his best to remain calm. Bare to their eyes now, Utsuro's torso had a rather surprising level of scar tissue for someone so young. Eyeing the 'paper', he piped up curiously. "What..is that?"

"This machine records specific information about your heart over time," Kaori explained in a conversational tone as Akina continued rapidly rubbing the paper-like object between her hands, though Kaori herself was eying the boy's scarred torso with an openly considering gaze. "It will let me check to see if your heart is functioning normally. It's standard procedure." She continued talking as Akina pulled off what appeared to be stickers from the paper and handed some to her; together, they began sticking them onto their patient's chest, and even one on his leg for a ground. "All you have to do is lie still," she explained. "It just measures. You won't be shocked or stabbed or anything else like that." The two worked efficiently when combining their efforts; in no time, the corresponding wires were being clipped on. "The worst of it is pulling these tabs off, and the noise the machine makes when it prints. You were spared the discomfort of cold tabs; Akina warmed them up for you." A quick check to make sure everything in place, and they were ready. "Akina will turn the machine on now," she explained. "It's going to make a loud noise for a few seconds, and we'll be done. Starting.... now." As soon as Kaori finished, Akina flipped the switch.

Utsuro couldn't help feeling slightly ashamed as the Hokage took in the scars across his chest, sides, and abdomen. A great many he himself did not know the direct cause of...and many others he wished he could forget. Not every inspection by a physician had been willing. He wondered just how to explain should she inquire, and the studious manner of her gaze certainly suggested she may. Nodding softly as she explained the machine, he could not help feeling slightly more at ease at her assurance to the lack of shocks, stabs, or other such unsavory sensations. Others had lied about such things before, but there was a tone of sincerity to the Hokage's voice that the others had lacked. Watching intently as they affixed the strange circles to his skin. He couldn't help bristling slightly as wires were clipped to them. It was all too reminiscent of a device that coursed lightning through his body. Something a .....'doctor' had called his "Lightning Therapy". " The worst of it is pulling these tabs off, and the noise the machine makes when it prints. You were spared the discomfort of cold tabs; Akina warmed them up for you." "T-thank you, Akina-sama." Utsuro offered softly when there was a pause to interject without being rude. Watching as the switch was flipped, he couldn't help being just the slightest bit startled, both by the sound the machine emitted, and the lack of painful sensations. The young man wondered just what sort of information such a strange contraption would reap.. ..If they're not careful with that thing, it'll wake the kid up..

Kaori raised an eyebrow at her young patient's reaction to the test, the hint of a slightly amused smile on her face. Many people had similar reactions when witnessing that particular machine for the first time, and she remembered with no small amount of amusement her own initial reaction to the thing, as well as Akina's. Still, there had been something.... else... there in his expression: something that, unless Kaori missed her guess entirely, was at least somehow related to the scars she had seen. She would have to have the truth of those, for certain. In mere moments the test was over, and Akina examined the result herself before handing the length of paper to Kaori to inspect. As she suspected all along, the result was perfectly normal. But suspicions or no, it was never good to jump to conclusions: and there might have been some underlying problem that would have gone otherwise undetected. And there very well still may be, she reminded herself as she tucked the test results - what looked like a bunch of zigzagging lines scribbled on the paper - into their appropriate place in the folder on her clipboard. "That's done," she remarked simply, idly tapping the clipboard with a single finger as Akina set to unhooking the wires and removing the tabs as gently as possible, "and with nothing but the promised effects, correct? You can stop looking like one of these machines is going to eat you. I'm a doctor, not an interrogator." A slight twist to her mouth as she spoke - as though suddenly experiencing a decidedly foul taste on her tongue - showed what she thought of them. To one who had been raised on Genjutsu while other children were still trying to learn how to make paper shuriken, the methods most interrogators used seemed brutish and uncivilized, to say the least. "And this is a hospital," she added, "not a torture chamber."

Utsuro nodded as she spoke, seeming to relax just a little more. He couldn't quite bring himself to mention how glad he was she was not an interrogator. They weren't very good people in his experience. The tabs did not feel too horrible coming off, he'd experienced worse, after all. "Yes, Hokage-dono, just as you promised." The faintest traces of a smile formed upon his lips. Eyeing the paper as she filed it away, he wondered just what she could learn from all those scribbles. It made no sense to him, but then, he wasn't the doctor. At least they were finished..with that at least. Utsuro merely waited in silence to see what was next.

Kaori arched an eyebrow, wondering if this youth thought something funny, or if something else entirely were running through his mind. She wasn't going to waste time pursuing it, though; she had far more important matters to attend to. Like the sudden and unexpected mass of scars on her patient's body. "I was going to continue with the rest of the exam at this point," she explained simply, the test results already filed away to be inspected further at a later time, "but I believe you and I know what's coming next, yes?" She reached over and, just as Akina finished removing the last of the tabs, gently tapped one of the boy's scars with a forefinger. "Tell me about these."

" Tell me about these." The Hokage inquired, a finger delicately tapping one of the numerous scars. Utsuro's faint smile proved to be short lived, as his lips fell back into their practiced emotionless hold, grey eyes drifting down to the array of puckered flesh. "Pick one.." He offered softly at first, barely audiable even for him. It wasn't his place to tell the Hokage-dono what to do, after all. "Most of them have a story behind them, some I'd much rather forget. The rest are just injuries from my travels over the years. I've no talent for medical ninjutsu, and there was never a medic around, of course, so I patched myself up as best I could.." It was an almost morbid chuckle, hushed and rustling like dry leaves..almost as if the boy wasn't quite sure how to truly laugh, that escaped his lips. "One of the few things I'm halfway-decent at, applying patches.." Worn, bandaged fingers traced a series of parallel lines along his right pectoral, still pink and fairly fresh. "This one was a bear on my way to Konoha. It smelled the fish I had caught and decided it would be best for me to share.." There were plenty of others to choose from, of course. Frighteningly enough, there seemed to be at least one scar in the vicinity of each of the boy's vital organs, and yet more in places obviously chosen for their pain-causing capacity. He fell silent, not uncommon for the odd young man, as his eyes traced the shapes and lines, the ghosts of memories drifting across his dull grey eyes as he waited for the Hokage's reply, whatever it might be.

"Mmm." The noise Kaori made in her throat, lips compressed and finger tapping her cheek, could have meant anything at all: displeasure at seeing anyone treated so by supposed "doctors" - interrogators were one thing, but doctors? Despite long years in the Shinobi world, the idea still disgusted her - displeasure at the scars themselves, or frustration that the boy was still skirting around the truths he didn't remember confessing to her. It could have been all of those things, or none, especially since her expression hinted that she may have encountered a minor frustration. Not at all like someone discovering such... mementos... for the first time. Then again, one did not become Hokage by being taken by surprise at every turn. "Well, we'll have to see what we can do about those later," she said after a few moments' pause, during which Akina had stopped her bustling to add her own emerald gaze to the visual weighing and measuring. She knew everything Kaori herself did, of course, but where Kaori's gaze showed a hint of frustration, Akina's expression was that of a logician inspecting a new puzzle. Akina had always enjoyed her study of healing so-called "permanent" damage and restoring a patient's body to its previous, untainted state. Not that much progress had been made, of course - at least in the grand scheme of things - but the girl had a talent for it. Perhaps this Tsutomegi Utsuro-kun would find himself "patched up" a little better than he had been when he arrived. But this, of course, was no time for that. There were other tests to be run, and only a day in which to complete them. And so they moved on to the next thing: Kaori remained as cool and in command as ever, with Akina practically radiating a sort of competent efficiency. They worked together seamlessly, knowing what was needed when and why despite barely a direct word passing between them. Kaori spoke more to Utsuro-kun than Akina did, of course, though she offered little in the way of small talk. For the most part she explained what each test would be like and what she was doing as she was doing it, with a few questions slipped in as though part of natural conversation. Was he comfortable in the accomodations that had been provided for him? Had he been feeling well lately? Was he sure none of his relatives had shown some particular symptom or another? What was life like in the village of his birth (she deliberately did not call it his "home" village, as that was Konoha now), and was it very different from Konoha? What was the medical care like there? Did he have siblings? Cousins? What was his family like? Anything to keep him talking, and to keep him comfortable. The more he felt like he could talk to her, the more he would open up, and despite the fact that she could get anything she wanted from him with a simple Genjutsu, she needed to hear it from him of his own free will, for more reasons than one.

Utsuro couldn't help but wonder what could be 'done' about scars. They had been there, the majority of them, most of his life thus far. Unless something occured where a larger amount of damage was done to the same area, the scars would remain. The testing continued on, the young man doing his best to absorb what was being done and for what as the Hokage explained things. Little by little he began to relax, not worrying so much anymore of the 'other glove' dropping. The two worked very well together, it seemed, almost like two parts of a whole. They'd obviously known and worked with eachother for a long time. He was a bit envious. All the while she continued to ask questions. He was familiar with the tactic, others had tried it before. The more someone talked, the more their guard dropped. At least with the Hokage, he felt like that wasn't a dooming concept. The room was very comfortable, especially when one was accustomed to sleeping in caves and the ground. He felt as well as he could, all things considered. He was no doubt in a prolonged state of exhaustion, which would certainly fade after he had settled down a bit. He was getting, admittedly, a bit annoyed over her repeated questionings of his family's health. It wasn't the Hokage's fault, of course. His hadn't been the only Clan in the village, small though it was. He'd heard the others talk, speaking ill of his family, calling them 'crazy'. He hated that word. He continued answering her inqueries as best he could. Hidden Heaven had been a much smaller village than Konoha, but it was a close-knit community, everyone helping out everyone else. It was very nice. Siblings...He'd had an older brother and a younger sister. Onii-san had been his role model for the longest time, there wasn't anything he couldn't do...and he was everything Utsuro wasn't. Tall, handsome, incredibly confident. 'Nee-chan was a little bundle of enthusiasm, always running around, seeing the positives in things. His cousin....Utsuro didn't remember much at all of him...Except he went out of his way to make up extravagent fibs for any and every situation. Taking a moment to collect his thoughts further, memories of his parents welled up.

"That's enough for now," Kaori said at last, writing one last note on her clipboard. Tstutomegi-kun was getting overwhelmed, it seemed, and besides, a break would be a convenient excuse for her to get some other work done today. "Akina, see that Tsutomegi-kun is shown to one of the rooms and given something for lunch and then meet me in my office. The carpenters should have submitted their latest reports today, and I'll need to see either the reports or whoever is responsible for not getting them to me on time." It was all she could to to suppress a sigh; some people really didn't understand that one small delay could grind the entire village to a halt if left unchecked. "You'll have a little while to have some lunch and relax," she said to Tsutomegi after Akina nodded and stepped out to track down the appropriate people, "but I shouldn't be gone for more than an hour or so. Try to relax and rest a little; I know days like this aren't easy. By the way," she added almost as an afterthought, "Konoha shinobi know this better than most people as of late: don't hold it in. Even if you mourn where no one can see, you will be better for it, in the end. Remember, take it easy. And stay put, unless you're told otherwise." The last thing she needed was for him to wander off and get lost in the hospital, or worse, up and leave. Though unless this Ichiyuumaihi character showed up, she thought that was unlikely. Better to be safe, though. "I'll be back soon." And with that, she swept out of the room just as Akina returned, ready to guide him to his next destination.

"Yes, Hokage." He nodded, listening to her words. In the years he had been travelling...he had never really mourned the loss of his family. Just begrudged whoever engineered it. Maybe now that he'd settled down, it was finally time to give himself the chance to really grieve. Maybe. Rising to his feet, he watched as the Hokage departed and Akina-sama returned in the span of a heartbeat. He began to wonder if the two shared some kind of psychic link. It was just...incredible to see two people work so seamlessly in synch. Utsuro began to wonder what was for lunch.

Tensei Akane hummed happily to herself as she half-danced down the halls of the Konoha hospital. A new student, a new student! She loved getting new students! True, it wasn't often she went to visit them beforehand - let alone because she'd actually been asked to - but this was a special case. So she was just fine with taking her lunch break here in the hospital instead of somewhere else. At least was comfortable; she'd chosen to wear black, fitted pants and a red halter top today, with various bracelets and necklaces and other accessories, of course. It felt weird wearing a flak jacket with that outfit, but she had a policy of always wearing it in front of her class. Sometimes they needed the reminder of her rank. Her forehead protector, unusually for her, was tied as a belt today. It wouldn't have looked right where she usually wore it, and she couldn't just go without. She found the correct room just as a volunteer was leaving, presumably having just delivered the youngster's lunch. The woman had left the door open, but she didn't wanna just waltz in. Instead she lounged up against the doorframe, holding her lunch box casually in one hand and using the other to knock on the open door. "Yo, Tsuto-kun!" she announced with a grin. "Remember me?"
