"Got it!" Kohaku half-shouted, nodding once as she pounded a fist into her other hand, "I'm ready for anything!"

For just a moment, the perpetual flight of fancy that seemed to govern Homura Taro disappeared. An uncharacteristically serious expression crossed his face, the flames behind his eyes burning all the brighter, though shielded by his square-rimmed glasses. His lips turned upward in a somber smile.
"I assure you, Adabana-san," he began in an unusual state of calmness, "that we will complete this mission with the utmost expediency and efficiency. And with this team I see in the room with me, I have no worries that we'll get through safe and sound!" he finished with a proud grin.

Once everyone had responded to her satisfaction, Miyoko nodded as she opened a large folder lying on the desk. "Good, good," she said with a smile as she rummaged through the contents, at last pulling out an envelope. "This contains a map and directions to the village," she explained as she handed it to Taro. "You'll be on the road for awhile, so I suggest you stop by your homes to pack - but as for how long or where to meet up, that's up to the Team Leader. Dismissed!"

Accepting the folder, Taro nodded and listened to Miyoko's last few instructions. Once the group had been dismissed, he turned to the others in the room.
"Well, then," he said, "let's reconvene outside!"

"Will do, Sensei!" the Triplets chimed in their usual unison, bringing back fond memories of younger days with their Sensei. "Let's go!" And with that, Daichi opened the door, holding it for his comrades, while Hideko and Eiji led the way out of the office.

Kuro folded her arms and followed the triplets out the door.
Out in the hall, she casually leaned against the wall, waiting for the rest to follow.

Kohaku followed the group out of the office and stood where she could see everyone. Resting her hands on her waist, she waited for what would happen next.

"Well, then," Taro started, once the rest of the team had joined him. He tucked the envelope that Miyoko had given to him away in a pocket of his jounin vest so he would be sure not to lose it before going on. "Like Adabana-sama said, this is going to be a pretty long trip. I want you all to go home and get some supplies together. You've all been trained in survival, so I doubt I need to tell you what to bring. If you have any questions, of course, I'll be happy to help."
Adjusting his glasses, the jounin thought for a moment before murmuring to himself, "I'd say two hours is plenty of time to prepare." He took a look at his watch before addressing the group again. "Alright. Everyone head home, get your things, and we'll meet at the village gate in two hours. Sound good?"

Kuro left the group, silently wishing she hadn't accepted the job.
Her cat immediately tried to make an escape as she opened the door to her apartment.
"No, Kaji!" Kuro scooped her cat into her arms as she closed the door behind her. Kaji leaped from her arms and scurried around the floor as if chasing an imaginary mouse. Kuro rolled her eyes and smiled a little. It was nice to have somebody to come home to.
The small apartment had a kitchen, a bathroom, and a bedroom. Perfect for a girl and her cat. The walls were tatami (straw) and there was a single stripe going around each room, like a typical Japanese home. The floors were tatami also.
Kuro's room had a regular bed, with a green quilt that had black bamboo print. Her grandmother had made that quilt especially for her. The Konoha leaf symbol was sewn in the middle in shiney silver thread. Her dresser was black with silver handles, and had a small box with a lock sitting on top. A clear vase with white flowers sat next to it. Kuro's desk was covered with paper, brushes, ink, ink stones, and graphite sticks. Some papers had drawings that had been scribbled out, and some had pictures that were only half finished.
Kuro gathered a few items into a backpack. As she rummaged in the top drawer of her dresser, she came across a necklace. It had a silver chain, with a silver charm shaped like an eighth music note. She stared at it for a moment, thinking hard. The necklace had belonged to her parents, who she had hardly known. It glittered as it caught the light streaming in from the window of her small apartment.
Kuro clasped the necklace around her neck, and hid it under her high collar. She then grabbed a few more things, tossed them into the back pack, refilled Kaji's food and water bowl, picked up the backpack, and surveyed the room one more time. Her Katana lay in the corner, taunting her. She picked it up and put that on her back as well.
Kuro then began the trek to the front gates, wondering how long the mission would last. "It shouldn't be too difficult," she thought. "It's just a bunch of carpenters."

Taro waited until the other team members had dissipated before making his own way back towards home. He was careful to take an alternate path to the one he had used to get to the administration building that morning, mostly to avoid drawing any unwanted attention from an upset peddler. Upon reaching his home, the jounin hurried inside.
"Tadai--" he stopped himself short, lingering for a moment in the entryway. That was right; there was no one home to welcome him. He would never get used to having to enter an empty house. The void of lonliness enveloped him as he headed down the hall towards his room, glad that he would be getting out of the village, if only for a short while. Perhaps by the team's return with the carpenters, Nada would be back from the Sand village, and he would not have to be alone any longer.
Digging his pack out of a closet, the jounin got to work filling it with essentials for the journey. It did not take him long to prepare, in spite of the fact it had been a while since his last mission. With everything he needed packed up, Taro took one last detour to make sure the house was all locked up and secure for the duration of his absence.
Although he was feeling melancholy, Taro did his best to return a smile to his face as he walked brusquely to the village gate. The other members of his team would be meeting there shortly, and he wanted to be presentable to them; the last thing they needed was to see a senior shinobi having an emotional breakdown.
Digging the map out from the envelope that Miyoko had given him, he settled down into a crouch to wait for the others, using the time to study the route they would be taking to the carpenters' village.

Kohaku hurried back home as soon as they had been dismissed to pack her things and meet back with the group as soon as possible.
Once arriving back at the house, she scurried inside and half-slammed the door behind her as she entered. "I'm back!"
"Back so soon?" answered Goro as he exited the kitchen with a big bowl of reheated ramen. "Did they kick you off the mission or something?"
"Shut up, Goro!" the young Akiyama barked, whacking her silly older brother upside the head before jogging towards her bedroom. She pulled her thick, black leather belt and kunai, shuriken, and rock pouches from the closet along with a decent-sized backpack and her box of survival mission supplies.
Carefully, she laid everything else out on her bed to make sure she had exactly what she needed, checking off every item in her head as she began to pack. After several moments, Goro came to join her, plopping down onto the end of her bed, causing all of her supplies to bounce out of place. He quickly attempted to fix everything, and for a bit of fun, sneaked a couple of kunai and a shuriken away and in a flash, stuffed them into his own weapons pouch.
It took a few minutes before Kohaku realized something wasn't right. She could have sworn she had more kunai and shuriken than that! Standing up straight, she rested her hands on her hips and gazed around the room.
"Somthing wrong, oneechan?" inquired Goro, an innocent, yet devious grin spreading slowly across his face.
Pursing her lips over to one side, Kohaku nodded. "I thought I had more kunai than that! And I think I'm missing a shuriken..." Finally, her eyes met the face of her scheming older brother. "GORO! What did you do with my stuff?!"
"I don't have them, I swear!" he shot back.
"Don't lie! Baka! Give me my stuff back!" She was just about to tackle him when he withdrew the stolen kunai and shuriken from his side pouch and held them out to her.
"Here," he said with a soft chuckle. "Don't get so worked up. I was just having some fun."
Snatching the weapons from him, she carefully put them into their designated pouches and fastened the belt snuggly around her waist. "I know... You just know how to push my buttons. Anyway. I need to be going." She turned around, grabbed the stack of heavy rubber bands from her nightstand and quickly pulled them onto her wrist before heaving the adequately packed backpack onto her back.
She hurried from her bedroom, Goro tagging along behind her. "When do you think you'll be back?" he questioned.
"In a few days. Don't worry. I'll be back in enough time that you won't die from withdrawal from not having me to pick on." Kohaku smirked, then pulled the young man into a tight hug. "I'll be sure to stop by and say goodbye to everyone on my way to the meeting spot. Buh-bye, Goro-chan!"
After leaving the house, Kohaku quickly made her way throughout the village to bid goodbye to her parents and the brothers still in the village. Jiro and Ichiro had been called off on missions, but she would see them as soon as she got back.
As soon as she finished saying goodbye to her family, she headed to meet up with the group.
