OoC: Yeaaah...um. feel free to delete this if I'm stepping on any toes, for which I apologize. But I'm bored, and needed to do something, so I thought I'd try and find a solution to the Ninaka thread issue, as discussed earlier, so that K-sama and everyone else wouldn't have to do a boatload of shuffling stuff around. So..here's my/the last post from that thread, and hopefully people can start replying as they normally would. Yay sense of accomplishment! >.>

Withdrawing a set of chopsticks from the cup, he nodded softly. "...I just arrived today, actually....I had wanted to meet with the Hokage, but she is away...Miyoko-sama gave me permission to stay until she returned, though." Utsuro contemplated showing him the paper, but it did not seem he had any issue with him being in town.
Plucking a piece of chicken from the bowl, he quietly nibbled at it. ....spiiiiccyyyyy... Not really a fan of hot foods, but he remained quiet nonetheless. Beggars can't be choosers, after all.

"Ah, you talked to Miyoko-san?" Eiji asked, sidling up to the counter and ordering his own bowl of ramen. "I'm surprised at how calmly you speak of her, especially for a newcomer," he continued with a laugh. "You don't see the likes of her everyday, you know?"

"You don't see the likes of her everyday, you know?" The young man named Eiji commented with a laugh, settling down to place his own order.
"...ah..no...I guess not...I...didn't really see her too well, though..." Judging by his seemingly standard posture of looking downward, it did not seem to be too much of a stretch to assume the boy had seen nothing above her kneecaps. Taking a sip of water, he returned to his meal, almost incredulously being able to slurp noodles with barely a sound.

"Really?" Eiji asked, seeming surprised. "Everyone I've talked to said it was hard to keep from staring. After all, her choice of clothing leaves little to the imagination---OWWWW!" he cried out, rubbing the back of his head where his Sister had whacked him far less painfully than he let on. "Hidekoooo!" he whined. "That was mean!"
"Don't be so vulgar in front of a guest of the village," was all the female Tensei had to say on the matter. "You know better than that."
"Yeah, yeah," Eiji sighed, before adding a belated " 'scuse me," to Utsuro-kun. Daichi couldn't say anything; he was trying to keep from laughing.
"Siblings," Eiji said with a purposely melodramatic roll of his eyes. "It's nice having them, but it's awful when they gang up on you."

Utsuro flinched slightly when he heard the contact of the hit, combined with the pained, albeit exaggerated cry from Eiji.
"Hidekoooo!" he whined. "That was mean!"
"Don't be so vulgar in front of a guest of the village," was all Hideko said "You know better than that." Daichi-sama was too preoccupied stiffling laughter to make his own addition.
The unorthodox boy shook his head faintly as the shirtless young man offered a breif appology. It was not neccessary to appologize to him, after all...or so he believed. The opportunity to inform him of this was denied as Eiji continued.
"Siblings," stated with a rolling of the eyes, "It's nice having them, but it's awful when they gang up on you."
A slight pang of pain struck at his heart, almost causing him to drop his chopsticks. "...gomen, but I am afraid I cannot sympathize..." Utsuro murmured softly. "...you are.. blessed to still have them in your life.... however troublesome they might be at times.."

"I know," Eiji agreed with a nod. "We're all afraid of being split up. Taking the Chuunin exams was a real pain for us, since we had to do part of it solo. But anyways," he continued in a brighter tone, hoping to cheer his companion up, "What do you plan on doing while you wait for the Hokage to come back?"

"...Miyoko-sama instructed me to stay out of trouble...so...I do not have much else in mind than that.." Partaking of a bit more of the chicken curry ramen, he paused a moment. "...I suppose I shall just wander about...attempt to figure out where everything is, should Hokage-sama actually allow me to stay.....though I won't get my hopes up.."

Hotaka just grinned at his cousins. Their boisterous behavior--well, Eiji's, at least--never ceased to amuse him. He let the three of them entertain the newcomer while he started working on his ramen.
Whoo! he exclaimed inwardly, reaching for a glass of water. Hot as ever. Good stuff!
As the man continued eating, he listened to the conversation that was going on around him. The ANBU was almost killed by a renegade noodle as he choked on it, laughing at both Eiji's comment about Miyoko and the result of his words. He definitely spoke the truth, though. Modesty didn't seem to be a concern for the temporary Hokage.
Taka hesitated upon hearing Utsuro's comment about siblings. It was starting to make him think that there was way more to this kid than met the eye. Sure, he seemed like some poor, homeless ragamuffin who had just wandered into Konoha in search of a place to stay, but there was something else. He wasn't sure why, but Taka couldn't shake the feeling that something terrible had happened to the boy in the past.
"...Miyoko-sama instructed me to stay out of trouble... so... I do not have much else in mind than that..." Utsuro was saying. "...I suppose I shall just wander about... attempt to figure out where everything is, should Hokage-sama actually allow me to stay... though I won't get my hopes up...."
"Aw, hey now," Hotaka said with a grin. "That's no way to talk! You gotta be positive!" he assured Utsuro. "Oi!" he shouted out of nowhere, "this is a lot spicier than I remembered!" He happened to lick his lips as he reached for a glass of water. "OW! Ow ow ow! Now my lips are burning!"
In spite of his pain, he couldn't keep the laughter from escaping. It took him a few tries to take a drink. "Man," he said, wiping a tear from his eye, "nothing like making a scene."

Hideko just rolled her eyes, laughing. "Boys," she said to Kyoko before resuming her own bowl of rather un-spicy chicken ramen.
"Making a scene or stealing it," laughed Daichi in response to his cousin's comment. "Eiji and I can never agree which is better."
"Or who does it better," added Eiji. "My brother seems to think he shares my stunningly good looks," he said slyly, making it obvious he was only jesting - of course, since the two boys were practically mirror images of each other. Daichi just rolled his eyes, and Hideko turned back to the girls.

Hotaka-sama's antics were amusing, to be certain, the hints of a smile spreading, then just as quickly diminishing as his advice sunk in, practicality taking over.
"...I am not being negative, Hotaka-sama...merely stating a fact...there are several villages where I am no longer welcome, though I never did anything to upset them.." Utsuro stated plainly, nibbling at another piece of chicken.
"..most people just....do not like me...I have become accustomed to misfortune. It is the only certainty in my life." It was, perhaps, the nonchalance with which he said this that made it the most unsettling.

The nonchalant expression of their companion's statement rolled off the two brothers like water.
"Don't say it like that, man!" Daichi urged with a grin, gesturing with his chopsticks. "Because if you think that way, then of course that's how it's gonna be! You've gotta work for the best and stay positive!"
"Yeah, yeah!" agreed Eiji, nodding emphatically. "In Konoha, if you're unlucky, you just turn around and make your own luck. If something bad happens, you turn around and make it better. I'm sure you saw all the reconstruction outside, right? Well, I don't know how much you know about current events, but Konoha was almost destroyed in a war. The last battle wasn't even a month ago! But look at it now. You'd think it was ages ago.
"But even still, misfortune isn't the -only- certainty in your life. Think of this. It's -certain- you'll have food in your stomach today. It's -certain- you have safety and shelter in this village until the Hokage comes back. It's -certain- you'll get to talk to her when she does. And if I know my cousin, which I do, it's -certain- she'll hear you out and give you a fair chance to make your request. It's also certain you've met some new friends today."

Utsuro was...baffled, to say the least. These people, they were so upbeat and positive about things, and their reassurances rang of truth, even to his own pessimistic ears. It was confusing. Surely things would go wrong again. They always did...still...it would be a welcome change to have a little happiness, at least for a little while.
It was, perhaps, the duo's last statement that had floored him the most. Not since his village had been destroyed had anyone ever used the term 'friend' in relation to himself. It felt...nice.
"...arigato, Daichi-sama, Eiji-sama..your enthusiasm is...refreshing... I hope.. that you are correct." A slight smile crossed his lips. ..but I wonder...would they still be as optimistic if Konoha, and everyone they loved... and knew... Utsuro stopped that train of thought. He wouldn't wish that upon anyone.

Hotaka smiled listening to Daichi and Eiji. They made some good points. Reaching to pat Utsuro's shoulder lightly once more, he nodded.
"They're right, man," he started with an easy grin, "and besides, the great thing about Konoha is that we're a family here. If things are going bad for you, I have no doubt that there'll be someone who's willing to help you out."
Finishing up his ramen without any further complains of spiciness, he added, "Loss is a bad thing, and yeah, you could let it twist your whole life into something pessimistic and terrible. But I'm more of the opinion that you should take what you need from it and move on as a stronger, better person. Otherwise, where is your life going? Nowhere. Just ruminating in misery and squalor won't do anyone any good."
He paused, smiling and shaking his head. "Sorry," he apologized, glancing underneath his feet, "I think someone slipped me a soapbox!" Winking to the newcomer, he joked, "Sometimes I just can't contain my worldly wisdom."

all family......loss.....lost.....everyone...Utsuro froze, chopsticks slipping from his fingers, the jumble of words chaining themselves together inside his mind.
"...but what happens when....you lose everyone? everything....how do you use that?" The boy asked, barely above a whisper.

"I'm not claiming to know what that feels like," Daichi said solemnly, "but I do know what it is to suffer loss. It seems to me that, if I lost everything, I wouldn't be able to truly live again until I found something else to live for. I'm not saying those people can be replaced, but neither would they want us to suffer the rest of our lives. If you want to live on, then you'll have to find someone - or something - that is precious to you, something to protect."
"And let the memory of your past loss become strength by which you can fight to protect that which you've gained since," continued Eiji. "Such a staggering loss may be the end of something good..."
"But it can also be the beginning of something great," finished Daichi. "Everything happens for a reason... we've just gotta take what we can from what we're given and do what we can with it, you know? No need to let anything defeat you while you still have breath, or it's no better than being dead."
