"Well," Miyoko countered, "neither do you have reason to act like you're the scum of the earth. Remember that, if nothing else. Because no matter how you choose to present yourself, people will treat you accordingly, whether they realize it or not. Now, are we going to sit here all day or what?" she demanded of her teammate. "I have things to do today!" "All in good time," was the Hokage's smooth answer. "Do try to be patient. You are not the only one with things to do today.""Yeah, yeah," Miyoko sighed. "I know. You have to run the village and patients to treat and all that. And I have a Genin team to take care of. We won't be here long, will we?" "Hush," Akina snapped, tapping her foot. Miyoko frowned, but fell quiet anyways. Just what was taking so long? ((OoC: Sorry it doesn't offer much interaction, but I ran out of ideas for small talk. ^^; Don't worry; my next post will move things along quite nicely!))

Withdrawing into himself a little, listening to this exchange, Utsuro could not help but feel he was bothering them, detracting from their duties. He wanted to tell them to just go about their other, more important affairs, but he just could not find the voice.
So he sat, and he waited.

It was high time for the last person she had summoned to enter, Kaori had just begin to think irritably, when a knock sounded at the door. "Enter," she called, and in walked the final piece of the puzzle. He was a tall man, clad for the most part in typical Jounin attire. But there was a mask over the lower part of his face, leaving only his blue eyes visible, and what Kaori knew was normally spiky black hair had been flattened down to hang around his face, secured with a forehead protector tied like a bandanna. A long black coat and black gloves worn with the rest of his uniform identified him as a shinobi working under the command of ANBU's interrogation squad, to those who knew what to look for. "Ah, Fumei-kun*," Kaori greeted in her businesslike tone, calling him by the false name used by interrogators at work. "You're here at last. Please, come in." The man - her own relative, Tensei Hideki - nodded and came forward. "Tsutomegi-kun," the Hokage began, "this is Fumei. He's going to ask you some questions before I make my final decision. Don't worry; despite his appearance, he's actually quite friendly." *Fumei-kun - This false name is actually a play on words; it means "obscure/unknown/anonymous".

The statue-esq man in black was....intimidating, to say the least, made all the more so by the hidden nature of his face. Not to mention, the dull appearance of Utsuro's eyes were by no means an indication of the mind behind them. Depending on the kanji involved, the name had the potential for being suspicious. However, he let none of this on, and nodded attentively as the Hokage spoke.
"It is nice to make your acquaintance, Fumei-sama. I shall answer your questions to the best of my ability."

"That is good," Kaori answered in Hideki's place, rising gracefully from her seat. "Now that Fumei-kun is here, we can begin. Miyoko, pull up some chairs. Akina, hang this" - here she handed her Lieutenant a sign - "on the door and then help Miyoko with the chairs. Fumei, the shades, if you will." Kaori herself remained standing as the others sprang into motion. "Tsutomegi-kun, I will need you to move your chair back some, into the middle of the room," she instructed, never taking her eyes from the young man before her.

Blinking a bit in confusion, Utsuro watched the movement around him, failing to grasp what exactly was transpiring, but nevertheless did as he was instructed.

As soon as Tsutomegi-kun moved his chair, Miyoko and Akina were ready to move. The two kunoichi brought forward four chairs and placed them in the center of the room, two directly facing their guest and another on either side. Hideki drew the shades, cutting off sunlight - and possible prying eyes - but the room remained brightly lit. It was only after Akina and Miyoko took up places beside each of the side chairs and Hideki stationed himself next to one of the other two did Kaori glide out from behind her desk, silk robes rustling softly, to stand next to the final chair. "Fumei will ask you a few questions now," she explained. "Are you ready?"

Shifting a little, uncomfortable with being surrounded, Utsuro merely nodded and waited for the questions to begin, praying this ordeal was almost over.

"Then let us begin," Kaori announced, smoothly taking her seat. At her prompt, the other three were quick to move as well, seating themselves in near perfect unison. "Fumei, if you will." Hideki nodded, turning his full attention to the young man in front of him. "This won't be difficult," he assured the youngster in his rich, soothing baritone voice. "Just relax, and don't try to fight it or you'll only make things harder on yourself. Now, watch my hands." When he was sure this Tsutomegi had complied, Hideki's hands began to move, forming the required seals with practiced ease. The genjutsu, when effective, would lull its target into a trancelike state, after which the caster had a gentle, humane way to get honest answers to given questions. Hideki had used it to much success working for the ANBU. The casting of the jutsu complete, Hideki watched to make sure it had taken effect.

In the scarce seconds between the instruction to watch Fumei's hands and the subsequent haze, Utsuro's mind reeled, fear and confusion mingling with the rising feeling of his blood boiling, but then cooling as a warm, fuzzy feeling enveloped his brain.
It most likely took a moment or two to ascertain if the genjutsu had been effective, as his eyes were normally lack-luster and devoid of emotion. The only telltale sign that the boy was entranced was the fact that he no longer shifted in his seat nervously.

At a nod from the Hokage, Hideki began his questioning. "First question," he told Tsutomegi. "What is your motive for coming to Konoha?"

"It is my intention to enter the Academy and train to become a shinobi, so that I might honor the spirits of my family." Utsuro stated in a flat drone, just as soft as normal, but lacking any hesitation.

"Next question," Hideki continued in rich, melodic tones. "Do you intend to gather intelligence about or bring any harm to Konoha?"

Shaking his head slightly, he replied. "No, that is not my intention in the least. Konoha is my last hope for training, therefore I would never perform a detrimental action towards it."

Upon a whispered command from the Hokage, Hideki changed the question he had been about to speak. He asked instead, "Do you know or suspect the reason behind your blackouts?"
