Clan Basics
The Hyouri Clan is a clan almost entirely consisting of females. Obviously there are many males in the clan, but virtually all males are kept at home tending to household duties. The women of the clan hold nearly all high-ranking offices within the clan, and maintain all relations between the clan itself and Konoha as a whole.
At birth, all males in the clan are put through multiple tests to derive a rough estimate of chakra potential within the newborn baby. Any males with the potential to become competent shinobi are immediately stripped away from their families and put into special care. From there they are raised in the clans belief that males are the lesser gender, and that all male shinobi should aspire to the greatness of their fellow kunoichi.
Around age 3-5, all children wishing to become shinobi are put into the clan's special academy. Many children will board at the academy, and all male students are required to. Very few males succeed in meeting the requirements of the clan to be let into Konoha's Shinobi Academy, as they would blemish the Hyouri Clans pristine name.
The clan is specially known for its beautiful and graceful shinobi. Even the male shinobi look very effeminate, and often refer themselves as women.
Hyouri Bonsai
All children with the potential to become shinobi are given a bonsai seedling when they enter the clan’s private academy. The seedlings are specially created from the seeds of the chakra tree. The students focus their chakra into their bonsai to keep them alive and healthy. How much and how often is something that varies from bonsai to bonsai and is something that the students have to learn for themselves. The health and care of each student’s Bonsai is as an ongoing test. A failure at keeping your bonsai healthy means you’re kicked out of the academy as well.
The teachers don't tell the students what their bonsai form means. Each bonsai plant, having stemmed from the special tree, can determine the raisers chakra element. The shape and form that each bonsai takes is unique to each chakra element. Teachers use the plants to keep tabs on their students to see how their chakra control, level, and development is coming along, as well as what their chakra type(s) is(are). As a sort of as a rite of passage the children must learn virtually everything about their bonsai. They literally form a very close bond with the plant.
Since the bonsai is raised and fed with their chakra, it very often tends to mimic the raisers personality. If the raiser is sick, the plant starts to wilt. If the raiser is happy, the bonsai blooms. The longer the bond between the plant and the raiser, the more drastic and immediate the changes are. If an adult Jounin from the clan dies in another country on a mission, then minutes later, the plant is dead. The reverse is also slightly true. If the plant were to die separately from the raiser, then (varying with age) the raiser just will become very depressed.
Many family members or friends use the bonsai to monitor their loved ones while they’re away on missions. Fallen shinobi are buried, with their bonsai placed in the soil above the grave. The clan graveyard has been noted as a morbidly beautiful place.

Clan History
The founder of the clan, Hyouri Hataro, raised her bonsai for the full 47 years of her life. The bonsai grew into a massive, full-sized tree. When she lost her left arm on a mission when she was 34, a large branch of her bonsai fell off only minutes later. While the branch healed over, it never grew back for the remainder of its life. Her team got ambushed on a mission and she was felled by a sword blow from her shoulder down across her chest. He Bonsai split nearly in half, and died moments after. The bonsai itself still remains standing at the center of the clan grounds.
