Okay, basically these boards exist because I want the bios for the main characters (aka each of our PCs, or player-characters) to be separate from the Non-player characters (NPCs) and Temporary-player characters (TPCs).
What are NPCs and TPCs, and what is the difference?
Non-player characters, or NPCs are created for several reasons, like adding depth to a story or simply to serve some sort of purpose. NPCs are generally only played by the person who created them. A good example of an NPC would be Kaori's brother, Kanaye. She thinks about him, she's interacted with him, but I've never actually written in the IF from his perspective. NPCs in the fic are similar to those in video games. They're there, but that's about it.
Temporary-player characters, or TPCs are characters created for a specific purpose and can be played by anyone who wants to make one, as long as they serve a purpose. TPCs, once created, can generally be played by anyone who wants to pick them up for a specific purpose. Once their purpose is fulfilled, they either fade into the background or are picked up again by someone else for a certain purpose.
Well, I hope that makes sense. If not, lemme know and I'll try and explain it a bit better. ^^;

Pretty good explanation Kdaime
I plan on using a few TPCs myself in the near future.

Of course not! NPCing other characters to a certain extent is perfectly fine (depending on the characters and circumstances, as some people may not like too much of it), and in some cases necessary. What I meant is that if I wanted to write from her point of view, as I do with Kaori, only I would be able to, since she's my NPC. I've NPCed you before, saying that you entered Kaori's office. It's almost impossible to have a story that flows well without it, so don't worry. Plus, I think it added to the fic nicely. (^_^)

NPCs and properly played TPCs are like the glue that hold a good RPG together.

Most definitely. They add the background, the routine... if it weren't for TPCs and NPCs, it'd just be the few of us PCs, and that's not nearly as fun - and it just doesn't work.
