Name: Ameno Ayaka
Village: Leaf
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Rank: Academy Student (temporarily civilian in story timeline; see history)
Blood Type: AB
Chakra Affinity: Unknown
Other Info of Note: Ayaka is one of many refugees who have sought shelter in Konoha from the war-torn countryside. More about this in her history.
Family:
-Father: Kobayashi Sho (46) – Amegakure Jounin*
-Mother: Kimura Miwako (deceased)
-Siblings: None
-Other: Various extended relatives and foster family
*Note that Ayaka does not know her father's name or rank, only that he was a shinobi of Hidden Rain at the time he and his comrades came to her home village.
Appearance: Ayaka stands at about 5'5”-5'6” with a decidedly skinny, nigh-underfed build. She has fair skin that burns easily and is just now starting to develop a slightly more womanly figure despite her rail-thin frame. She keeps her bright, orange-red hair – inherited from her father – waist-length in the back, and decidedly too-long bangs nearly hide her face in the front. She has the same large, tilted gray eyes as her mother, and – on the rare occasion you can actually see them – they light up with a delighted sparkle when she smiles. Partially due to her natural inclinations to avoid undue attention and partially because of what ended up in her bag when leaving home, she often wears simple clothes that are far too big for her and have to be secured in place with a makeshift sash out of her waist. She is coming to enjoy this fashion, however; she finds it comfortable and easy to move in.
Personality: Having faced difficult obstacles her entire life, Ayaka is not the type to give up easily. Her mother taught her never to give in to despair, a lesson she clings to as a way of life. She does this to honor her mother's memory more than anything, even when the temptation to give up is overwhelming. However, due to the negativity she has endured all her life (and a tendency she inherited from her father, though she has no way of knowing this), she also has quite a bit of a temper; thankfully, it takes a great deal to provoke her. In daily life she is usually quite reserved and soft-spoken, though she can become friendly and talkative if alone with someone who shows no sign of judging her for her birth or status. She has avoided undue attention for most of her life due to the persecution that came her way, but since she came to Konoha she has felt the urge to come out of her shell a little more. This may be a hint at a more confident nature lying dormant within her.
One odd personality quirk that has emerged since Ayaka came to Konoha is a combination of thriftiness and practicality. The things she brought with her to the village amount to a strange assortment of randomly grabbed odds and ends, from boys' clothes to bits of tools and dishes and even an old copper tea kettle with a hole in the bottom. Her lack of money and her personal inclination to not want to waste anything make her want to hold on to these items in the off-chance they can be used, while her practical side screams for her to get rid of the unnecessary clutter and maybe make a bit of extra money by selling the unwanted things. Because of this conflict she will often “sort” through her collection, which mainly means she scatters things around in her attempt to find something she can decide to either keep or discard. The kept items are placed carefully out of the way, while those in the “undecided” category are either tossed in the general direction of the large backpack she took with her to Konoha or wherever she happens to feel like leaving them at a time. Because of this, her apartment is a complete and utter disaster area of clutter.
Likes: People she can trust, sweets, spicy foods, Konoha
Dislikes: Discrimination, giving up, wasting things, bland food
History: Fourteen years ago, in a small town in the northeastern corner of the River Country, near the borders of both the Rain Country and the Fire Country, a group of Amegakure shinobi decided to stir up some trouble while passing through on their way home from a mission. They gathered in restaurants and inns – or what passed for them in the tiny village – and made quite a ruckus, disturbing the locals and even destroying furniture and the like. One of them even set his sights on a young local woman, one Kimura Miwako, and wouldn't take no for an answer. Roughly nine months later, Miwako – only sixteen at the time – gave birth to a daughter. Because Miwako's family did not want to acknowledge this illegitimate child of violence, she was given the surname Ameno due to her father's origin, while her mother chose Ayaka (literally meaning “color-flower” or “color-petal”) as a given name because of the girl's unusually bright red-orange hair.
Despite facing discrimination from the rest of her family, Ayaka was sincerely loved by her mother, who did her best to make a life for the two of them. This eventually paid off, when as a result of a complaint delivered by a group of messengers to the Hidden Rain for it's soldiers' behavior, Amegakure not only paid for repairs but also sent a modest sum of money to Miwako to help raise Ayaka. For a while, things seemed like they were turning around. That is, until Miwako became ill.
Ayaka worked hard to care for her mother, and even spent most of the money from Amegakure to hire a doctor, but in the end, nothing worked. Miwako passed away, and Ayaka was left on her own. She was taken in by a neighboring family who didn't share Ayaka's grandparents' prejudice, and while she was deeply saddened over the loss of her mother, Ayaka resolved to live on do her mother's memory proud.
And then the war came.
A group of shinobi from Hidden Stone traveling through the River Country to reinforce the invasion currently pounding Hidden Leaf were intercepted by a team of Konoha ninjas. The ensuing battle tore the village apart and scattered many residents across the countryside. The Konoha team prevailed, and – knowing they were in part responsible for making an entire village homeless – offered to escort anyone who wanted to go with them to safety in Konoha. Ayaka, who was separated from both her biological and foster families and had no idea where they were, was the only one who accepted. As instructed she packed up whatever she could find that might be of use and set off with the Konoha shinobi, arriving just in time for the final battle. Unable to enter the village because of the battle raging all over, Ayaka was hidden, left to wait in the shelter of an out-of-the-way cave until the battle – and the war – were over, when a couple of her escorts returned to bring her inside Konoha's walls for good. She is now waiting for her citizenship to be processed so she can apply to the Konoha Ninja Academy, knowing that her age and lack of experience in the shinobi world are two major handicaps she will have to work hard to overcome.
