..... jeeze! This kid really did have bad luck! To hear him talk, Ayaka almost thought he had walked out of a novel or something. That level of bad luck just didn't happen to real people! ... did it? A sudden thought occurred to her, and she hopped down off her cot and began rummaging through the rather large backpack in the corner. It contained everything she owned - save the clothes on her back and the shoes laid neatly under her cot, of course - and, as such, was quite heavy. She had packed so many things in it, actually, that the ninjas who brought her here had had to help her carry it. It wasn't nearly as huge as the bundle that the kid from earlier had left where it fell, though. Surely this Tsutomegi hadn't been carrying around something like that on his own? Something, however, in his words caught her attention as she continued her search. She knew she'd put it somewhere... "What's a soldier pill?" she asked him, barely even looking up from the task at hand.

The young girl hopped off her cot and began rummaging through her things. Utsuro couldn't help but wonder just what she was looking for, or why just now she'd thought of it. "They are...a ninja tool...I guess you could say.." He started in reply to her question. "Vitamins and vital nutrients..they...allow a ninja to fight for....extended periods of time...without having to stop...for food and rest."

Ayaka paused for a moment and cocked her head to the side, trying to imagine doing such a thing. "That... doesn't sound very pleasant," she said at last, continuing her search. Various items now came out of her backpack, including an old tea kettle, a pile of fabric she had thought to be blankets but turned out to be the extra curtains her grandparents had kept in the closet for some reason Ayaka had never understood, a lone geta without a mate, and a few shirts that were obviously too large for her. She let the items lay scattered about wherever she managed to put them, focusing more on her search than keeping any sort of organization going in her little corner. "Aha!" she exclaimed at last with more emotion than she'd put into her voice all evening, pulling out a small wooden box. "There you are! Now, then...." With that she plopped back onto her cot, tucked her legs underneath her, flipped her waist-long red hair out of the way, and opened the box. "Did you have to fight a lot, too?" she asked as she perused the box's contents.

So he was NOT the only one to have grabbed everything he possible could when leaving home. That was...a relief, to say the least. He'd long ago lost count of how many stares his collection had gotten. It seemed she had found what she was searching for, though, much to her apparently delight. "S-sometimes.." Utsuro admitted. He wasn't that fond of fighting, even though he rarely did it. "I...prefer to try and escape...usually.."

"Makes sense," Ayaka agreed, still looking over the contents of the little wooden box. She then fell silent, considering. Now, which one should she...? Yes, that one seemed like a good choice. This kid seemed to need all the luck he could get, and that one was definitely the luckiest of the ones she had brought. "A boy like you might not like this kind of thing," she said at last, "but you don't have to keep it if you don't want it." And she threw the selected item to her new tentmate. She had always had good aim, and it landed somewhere on his cot with a metallic jingle. "It" was a small keychain in shape of a Maneki Neko, a lucky cat. This particular cat was calico colored, with its right paw raised to beckon good fortune. In its left paw it held a tiny Daruma doll - neither of the eyes painted in, of course - and at the cat's feet was a coin bearing the phrase "Dai-Kiti," meaning "Lots of good luck." Being metal as it was, the cat also doubled as a bell. It might not be the most practical thing for a ninja to carry around, but well, like she had said, he didn't have to keep it if he didn't want it. All the lucky keychains she had with her were bells, so he'd just have to take it as is. "My cousin sold those, back home," she explained. "I brought a few with me to sell here, but you can have that one. It'll bring you good luck."

Fumbling around a bit, he plucked up the tossed item and inspected it carefully. He could not help but smile, as even in his village this was not an unknown figure. He would have to think of a good wish for Daruma-san, as well. The significance was even greater, though. Never before in his young life had someone given him a gift. And such a thoughtful one at that. Kid, you better not start crying...One, it's not cool, two, you're already dehydrated! It was a long moment before he could get his mouth to cooperate. "Th-thank you...It's...wonderful.."

Despite her insisting he didn't have to keep it, Ayaka was actually quite pleased that Tsutomegi liked her spur-of-the-moment gift. She may have brought the keychains to sell, but come to think of it, she was much happier giving them as gifts. Maybe she should save the rest for other people who needed a bit of luck, as well. She hadn't thought he would react quite as strongly as he had, though, and she found herself feeling a little embarrassed. "It's nothing," she said a little awkwardly, shifting on her cot. "A person like you doesn't need any more bad luck, y'know? Maybe he - " that was, to say, the cat " - can help out a little."

Well. It seemed he had embarrassed her slightly. Closing his fingers around the fortunate idol, he laid his hand back down on the bed. "N-no...it...really means alot...to me...at least.." He tried to reassure her that it was indeed not 'nothing'. "I just...hope..Maneki-san...is up for a challenge.."

Despite her slight embarrassment, Ayaka grinned a little. Outside, the rain kept up its steady pace; it made Ayaka glad to be in such a well-made tent as opposed to some makeshift shelter or another. Or that cave she'd stayed in for a while. Curtains would do her little good, there. "I picked the luckiest one I had to give to you you," she told Tsutomegi, holding up the now-closed wooden box to illustrate, "so if anyone is up to bringing you good luck, it's him." And she hopped off her cot again to try and straighten up a little. It probably wasn't good to leave random objects lying all over the tent, after all.

Utsuro just smiled softly. This girl..she was..nice. And surprisingly easy to talk to, a true feat for him. "Seems...you still have me...at a disadvantage...." He quietly stated, watching her clean up. "I still..do not know your name.."

"My... name?" Ayaka asked, stopping what she was doing for a moment. "... Oh. Right." And she went back to cleaning up. The curtains were the first to go in, and got crammed down as far as Ayaka could push them. Then went the geta. The next object to find its way into her hands was the old kettle, which she turned over a few times as though inspecting it until something in particular grabbed her eye. "Of course I'd get the one with the hole in it," she sighed. Why had Gramps even kept that old thing, anyways? "It's Ayaka," she said at last, still inspecting the useless kettle. "Ameno Ayaka. And don't even think about calling me Ayaka-sama," she added quickly, shooting a look in Tsutomegi's direction to gauge how he reacted to that particular request.

"Y-yes, Ameno-san.." He said sheepishly, shrinking away from her gaze. "It is...a very nice name.."

Ayaka winced just slightly at the use of her surname. Well, he had done as she asked, hadn't he? Still, she would have preferred him to use her given name. Hearing her surname just reminded her of home, and the family who wouldn't even share their name with a relative. "Y..yeah," she said at last, hurriedly stuffing the kettle into her backpack and piling shirts on top of it. Would she even be able to close it at this rate? "Thanks."

The wince, even in his position, had not gone unnoticed. "I am...s-sorry... Ameno-...Sama?...Dono?....Hime?" Surely there was something that would upset her less..

So apparently Ayaka was going to have to keep her reactions reined tightly if she was going to keep from having to resolve things every few seconds. Still.... hime? This Tsutomegi never ceased to amaze her. "Ayaka," she said simply. "Just plain Ayaka is best. If you don't like doing that, you can call me whatever you want as long as it isn't my surname or -sama."
