One of the first things Kaori had done after her official inauguration as the Tenth Hokage had been to look at the current genin team rosters. Some had questioned the wisdom in such a move when everything needed doing at once, but that was exactly why she had done it. The sooner she could get as many genin teams out and functioning as possible, the sooner she could move on to bigger issues while the village's youths continued to learn and grow. And, of course, bring some small amount of revenue back into the village. Needless to say, the rosters were a mess. With the field promotions of certain individuals to Chuunin, and the injury - or death - of other Genin, there were hardly any teams at all that had been unaffected by the war. She and Akina had worked long hours to get everything reorganized, and it hadn't been long after she officially took power when she used her newfound authority to finalize the decisions and make everything official. And so, Kaori had sent notices to all Jounin who were currently mentoring Genin teams: they were to report to her office today, the morning after her inauguration, to receive their new assignments. It would be up to them to decide how to gather their teams and inform them of the changes, as Kaori herself could hardly call every Genin in the village to her office for a little chat about what was going on. But, though part of her wished she could do everything herself, that part of it was simply none of her business, and she couldn't afford to make it so. The Jounin knew their job, and did it well. And the first, she guessed with a glance at the clock, would arrive any minute.

From the moment a young Ryuurei had found that he really COULD glide through life on his good looks and charm, he had never doubted a decision he had made. So long as his sharp mind could come up with the right words for the right moments, things always fell into place almost exactly as he wanted them to. Today, however, the confident Jounin found himself facing an unusual adversary: Uncertainty. He would be the first to admit, under duress, at least, that he could be a very self-indulgent man. Did he really have it in him to take on a team? The only way to know the answer for certain would be to try and see what happened. Adjusting the glasses on his nose reflexively, he knocked smoothly on the door to the Hokage's offce, and entered when bid to. "Good morning, Hokage-san." He intoned with a smile.

"Good morning, Hisuatsu-san," Kaori replied smoothly, raising an eyebrow at the (relatively) familiar mode of address the man before her used. Hisuatsu Ryuurei was the kind of man who would try to solve all the world's problems with a smile, a wink, and a witty remark, and expect it to do well. With the Tensei clan's genetics, she knew his type all too well, and thus it affected her very little. "Excited about your new job?" she asked with a hint of a smirk, selecting a slim folder from the pile on her desk and spreading its contents - five sheets of paper - on the patch of open space on the desk's surface. "Before you go meet the children, I want you to take a look at this."

"Cautiously optimistic, we'll call it." He replied, smiling still. Waters tested..Musing to himself, he moved over to the front of the desk, gazing down at the papers upon it. The stack of folders also occupying the space was a daunting task, no doubt. He did not envy the new Hokage in the least, as this was most likely very low on the priority list of getting the village back in running order. But no doubt she was going about it this way for good reason. "What is it you wish for me to see, Madame Hokage?"

"These," she explained with a sweeping gesture that took in the folder and the five pieces of paper spread out next to it, "contain information that will be of use to you when getting to know your team. These three - " she pushed the first three papers forward " - are from the files of your three students. I think you'll find enough information on there to get started, but there are a few things I'll mention specifically, because they're that important. "Kyousei Shichuumaru." She tapped the first sheet with a slender finger. "He's a year out of the academy, but he's never been on a Genin team before. After graduation he went back to live with his family for additional training, so he's even newer to this than you are. "Sekimori Yuki." She tapped the second sheet. "I think someone like you might have a little trouble with him," she remarked with an amused expression, "but you should manage just fine. He lost his sister in the war, and my sources say it's still a sensitive subject for him. "Tensei Jiro." Her finger moved to the third sheet. "My nephew, coincidentally. It's barely been a week since his father - my brother - was killed in action. To say he is still learning how to cope with the loss would be a gross understatement. "These two," she continued, pushing the last two sheets forward, "might be of use to you in relating to students Yuki and Jiro. Those two have been teammates since graduation, and work well together, but their Sensei - " she tapped the fourth sheet " - one Kindo Atsushi, was gravely injured in the final battle and is still hospitalized in serious condition. Their third teammate, Hayashi Ryo - " predictably, she tapped the final sheet " - was injured when his house collapsed, and is unable to continue as a shinobi. Needless to say, these two were very important to two of your students, and almost losing them has shaken the young ones quite a bit." Her speech finished, she gracefully swept the sheets back into a stack, slipped them into the folder, and pushed the whole thing forward on her desk. "Kyousei Shichuumaru. Sekimori Yuki. Tensei Jiro. These three in your hands now..... Hisuatsu Ryuurei-sensei."

Eyes gliding over the papers as they were presented, he soaked in as much of the information as he could straight away. A hint of a grin showed upon his face as the first of the names was read off. Kyousei-kun...That was not a name he was expecting to see any time soon, after the other day. It was...an intriguing lineup, to say the least. Two established teammates fresh from losses of some form or another...the Kyousei boy...and him. "I shall do my very best, Madame Hokage, fear not. These are very capable hands you leave them in, after all."

"I wouldn't be placing these children under your guidance if I didn't believe that," Kaori said in a reassuring manner. "Now go meet your team." A mischievous glint flashed in her eyes as she grinned faintly, leaning back in her chair. "Consider finding them to be the first of many challenges you're about to face. Now then. Genin missions are to resume as soon as possible, so I suggest you find quickly. That will be all for now."

"Of course, Madame Hokage. By your leave." Tucking the folder beneath his arm and bowing steeply, he was gone in the blink of an eye. *********** "Well. Kyousei-kun should be easy enough to track down." Ryuurei spoke to no one but himself, it seemed, pad of thick paper and pen in hand as he perched atop the roof of the administration building. "Hard to miss someone with his features, let alone one who works with massive insects. The other two....mmm.." Curved lines continued to define shapes as the pen flowed across the paper, eliciting a soft scratching sound he had always found quite pleasing. "The memorial for certain, Sekimori-kun will no doubt be paying respects at some point...perhaps Tensei-kun as well, if they're as close as the Hokage made it sound..Yes, six should be plenty. We'll have a good vantage point for searching, after all, now won't we?" Smiling, the pen was recapped and replaced in a pouch of his vest, the hand that guided it resting upon the flawless lines it had laid forth. Focusing, silver light darted from his fingertips, racing along the black ink as the page began to bulge. In a flurry of feathers, six nearly-perfect doves burst forth from the sketchpad, alighting into the air as if they lived akin to their inspiration. "There now. One scroll each, you know what to do.." The artist cooed softly, admiring his work as his free hand dispensed the small rolled papers to the inky flock. "Remember, only relay the message to the proper owners, and properly dispose of yourselves once they've been located. Now off with you!" At his command, they took flight, soaring above the streets of Konoha, searching for their targets. There was a small margin for error, sure, but only in that a bird might find a similar-appearing person by mistake. Rising and stretching slightly, the sketchpad was returned to his pack and Ryuurei was off towards his destination.

Sekimori Yuki was in a melancholy sort of mood today. The swearing in of the new Hokage had been quite a sight, and had Yuki feeling more excited than usual, but today was one of those days that didn't seem to care if you wanted to be in a good mood or not. For one thing, he was still being turned away when he tried to visit Atsushi-sensei - he and Jiro had been taking turns bugging them for ages - and for another, they still hadn't received word about what was to happen to their team. Neither one of them would say it out loud, but Yuki was sure Jiro was just as scared as he was that they would be split up. A sad, haunting melody tugged at Yuki's attention as he approached his destination. So Jiro had arrived first, had he? Well, that was to be expected, since Jiro - and Yuki too, for that matter - had plenty of reason to be there. Of course, Tensei Jiro wasn't content to visit the memorial like a normal person; he always said it didn't seem right. So instead he would sit in a nearby tree and play his sad, eerie song. The melody stopped, though, when Yuki approached the tree. "Any luck?"Yuki shook his head. "He's a little better than yesterday, but they still won't let anyone see him." Jiro sighed. “So much for that. And Ryo?”“Therapy.” “Well, at least he'll be able to walk again. Still, it's--- ow!”Yuki blinked. “Eh?” “The heck is this?” Jiro asked, reaching up and pulling a scroll – of all things! - off the top of his head. Directly above him, Yuki saw a bird sitting on a branch. “Did that bird just drop a scroll on your head?” ”Looks like it. Should I open it? Must be for me since I was attacked with it...”Yuki was just about to respond when a flutter of wings caught his attention, and looked up just in time to see a bird swooping down towards him. He reached out just in time, and the bird dropped the scroll into his outstretched hand. “Looks like I got one too.” ”How come I'm the only one who got beaned!?”“Maybe they just like me better. Let's see what these say.” Carefully, just in case it was a trap, Yuki opened the scroll and stretched it out, expecting to read some sort of message. Instead, just as Jiro was opening his own, Yuki looked up with a confused expression. “It's.... blank.”

As the blank scrolls were unfurled, the messenger doves took wing again, flickers of light dancing across their surfaces as chakra fluttered through them. Before the two teammates could react, the doves looped once and into a fast dive, bodies stretching out impossibly long before connecting with the scroll. Nothing more than ink-black lines at this point, the once-doves applied themselves to the parchment, laying down expertly crafted and beautiful calligraphy as they went. Addressed distinctly to each boy separately, the message read as follows: Time flows, constant and ceaseless as the wind across the world. The times of war have passed for now, the times of sorrow soon to end. Now is the time to reach towards a brighter, better future, to ensure the dreams of those who sacrificed.
Let the spirits of greatness past show you the way.
I'll be waiting.

Yuki blinked, looked up at Jiro to find him still reading his own scroll, read the message aloud to confirm that the two were the same, and then looked back up at his teammate. "Well," the blond boy said as he rolled the scroll up and put it away. "That's new.""I'll say," Yuki agreed, twirling his own re-rolled scroll between his fingers as Jiro finally hopped down to join him on the ground. "I wonder who it's from?" "Well, there's only one way to find out. C'mon, let's go. These -" he waggled the scroll "are talking about the Hokage monument, right?"Yuki nodded. "Unless they refer to the memorial and it's some kind of trick." "I didn't see anyone in the trees when I was up there, but if it's a Jounin or something...""Well, the Hokage monument is a lot harder to hide around. We could check there and come back if we don't find anything... or we could waste time climbing all over here." "I see your point. Well, let's get going. We're wasting time.""And just how are we going to do that? It's not really smart to just wander over there without knowing who sent these." Jiro paused. "Well, these birds were obviously some kind of ink or paint jutsu, right?"Yuki nodded. "The only clan I know of who can do stuff like that is the Hisuatsu clan. I've never met any of them, but their jutsu all have to do with art. You know, paint and stuff. So if I'm right, whoever sent these is one of them.""That still doesn't explain how we're going to get a look without giving ourselves away." "Just c'mon," Jiro urged with a mischievous grin. "Trust me. When have I ever gotten you into that trouble?"Only every time I ever saw you make that face, Yuki answered mentally, giving a resigned sigh as he followed his teammate down the street.

"For the last time, they are NOT out to get you!" The emerald-haired young man attempted once more to reassure his companion as they sat high atop the mountainous monument, waiting for something as of yet unknown. He had to admit, though: That messenger-message bird had been a pretty cool trick. Still...it was a very strange message to say the least. " 'Wait for a sign of things to come where the past was laid to rest...lead the future to the sleeper rooted in days gone by..' Man...what if we're in the wrong place? This thing's confusing as heck!" Shichuumaru sighed, rolling the parchment up again and tucking it in a vest pocket. Gabu merely continued to hide beneath a rock from perceived avian aggressors.

In Konoha's daylight, two figures made their way towards the Hokage monument. One, a feminine figure with long, red-orange hair, ambled along confidently despite an unassuming wardrobe and a curtain of hair separating her eyes from the world. The other, a nondescript boy with brown hair and dressed in simple but well-made clothes, looked like he should have been tending a shop of some kind.
"Are you sure about this?" the figure of the boy asked.
"Of course!" The girl's voice replied. "Not many people will know these faces, so we should be safe."
"Unless someone notices I'm not at work," the boy pointed out.
"Doing it his way is always taking a chance," the girl observed. "But sometimes you have to do it anyways. Besides, do you know any other ways to get up there?"
The boy sighed. "I guess you're right."
"C'mon, don't look so nervous. You'll give us away."
"And you? Quit sauntering around like you own the world."
"I am not!"
"I know your family. Of course you are. You all do."
".... True..."
"Look, we're there. Let's go and see what we can see."
And so, keeping a sharp eye out for any clue as to what they were looking for, the two figures made their way up to the terrace below the monument.

"Bwah!?" Dropping the stick he had been idly twirling about his fingers, he sat up with a start. "Ayaka-chan, what're you doing here? Wanted to see the monument up close or something? And who's your friend? Hey Gabu, It's Ayaka-chan! Maybe that will get him out of hiding." Shichuumaru rambled, turning his head slightly. "...Gabu?" " BUUUUUUUUU!!!~" The juvenile beetle cried out triumphantly, landing amidst a field of red-orange and promptly began stuffing strands of hair into his maw.

"Waugh!" The girl's figure gasped, staggering a little as something landed on her head and began.... eating her hair. "Gah! What the heck is going on!? Just what is it with animals and my head today!?"
As the girl's figure threw a rather typical spaz, the boy - despite thoughts that they were in serious trouble - could not help himself, and doubled over in a silent laugh.
This was just too much.
