This is directed primarily at all of our "international" members. XD
I'm taking a United States Government course over the summer (the second and last required one I have to take, thank heavens). Thankfully it doesn't involve as much mindless propoganda as the last one I took (the U.S. gov't is so great! the U.S. gov't is the best! why? we don't have to tell you that! just believe it!), but sometimes the professor does say things that cause me to raise a skeptical brow.
One of these comments was that the people of the United States are viewed by the world as "pragmatists." Call me crazy, but as far as I knew, US citizens are seen these days as something more along the line of "idealistic idiots" by those from other countries.
So, I'm just wondering. How do you think people abroad view Americans? How do you view them? How do the people you know view them? What do you think is the overall tenor toward Americans in your country?
Sorry if this is too much like some kind of homework assignment. I was just a little shocked by the claim and I wanted to see if there was any truth to it at all. If any of our members from the United States want to interject their own opinions, that would be fun, too.
Look forward to hearing what you all think. <3

America is viewed in my opinion, here, in a negative fashion. I have to correct myself when I say something negative about them, because it generally involves either the government, or the media. Each of these things I detest immensely. Americans in general, are relatively cool people. I think in general, the American people are more openly patriotic about their country, and sometimes can be a little irritating.
Dare I get on to spelling, and changing the English language...no...I'll leave it at that.

Yeah, I agree, I think most people internationally that most Americans are nice people, although many are a bit ignorant, because America is so much more blinded by propaganda than a lot of other countries.

Every race has their flaws... lol.
It's a bit unfortunate that America's viewed in a negative fashion here in New Zealand. But it's true. The general people of America are portrayed as mindless, overbearing, patriotic... and the government... well, as mindless, overbearing, patriotic. XD Sad but true... that's what most people I know think.
I think Americans are cool, though. XD Most of you guys, at least. PEOPLE LIKE YOU, TWINNIE.

It might be interesting to show him these quotes. It could spark a fun in-class discussion or something.

Yeah.
Especially tell him the part where I said you were cool. In fact, embellish a little... "The way I interpret it, apparently I'm so amazing that he used ME as a core example and thus as the basis for how cool other Americans are. I'm like a scale... yeah, they should definitely name a scale after me. The higher your Twinnie factor, the cooler you are."
That's certainly what I'd say. XD
AMERICA, FREEDOM IS THE ONLY WAY YEAH. *durka durka*

America, $*%@ yeah!
Lol.
That would be funny. But I'm not sure we really have time for a discussion about how my friends in NZ think I'm awesome and all Americans should be like me (which they shouldn't omg). XD We're breezing through the material way too fast for my brain as it is.
