Arts and Techniques of the Adarakis Clan
The following is an explanation of the techniques of the Adarakis Clan, as used by Mazrakiel and Kagemaru. This will cover techniques that have already been used, or important techniques that will soon be used.
Special Abilities
Kage-ryu-ken: This technique acts as a 'hidden shadow sword'. Using chakra and the Kage-ryu-ken, the Adarakis are able to attack an opponent with the shadow of the blade. This would mean that even if the enemy dodges the physical attack, there is still the second hidden attack to worry about. Using even more chakra, the Adarakis can attack an opponent's shadow using this technique and do the same amount of damage they would have done if the attack had hit (so given the right conditions the Adarakis doesn't even need to be near their opponent to defeat them, although at the cost of using chakra). Mazrakiel combines this attack with Kagetokeru to create a silent, deadly method of defeating his opponents (using the shadow of the blade as the weapon). Given the moral alignment of this attack (seeing as in the wrong hands and using Kagetokeru at the same time, an Adarakis could very well murder someone almost completely undetected with a 95% hit rate*) and the amount of chakra it consumes, it is typically used once during a battle, as a sure-fire method of defeating a single opponent (although more well-trained Adarakis, such as Kagemaru, can perhaps use it twice).
Kagetokeru: Allows Mazrakiel to meld with the shadows. By touching another shadow and using chakra, Mazrakiel can assume the form of a shadow, and can travel quickly amongst them. As long as two shadows touch, he can move from the shadow of one object to another. Using this technique, he can cover the distance of several miles completely undetected and in minimal time, as long as there are sufficient shadows to carry him all the way to his destination.
Non-Chakra-based Abilities
Handguard (Form I): A fighting style used by the Adarakis, created specifically for defense. Wearing a handguard made of tough materials (usually steel), this form of combat is suited for deflecting blows and fending off attacks while requiring the least movement (typically, the Adarakis stands side-on to the opponent to give them less room to aim for. One arm is raised and bent slightly, palm facing inwards, using the back of the hand to block attacks while the other hand is equipped – usually with a weapon of some sort – ready to counter the opponent's attack). This fighting technique is a highly defensive art, placing a much higher focus on countering the opponent's blows than landing attacks of your own. The drawback to this style is that only one arm is used for offense, so if something happens to that arm the Adarakis is in trouble. However, the high defensive capability of Handguard Form I (which is also supplemented by such techniques as Kagetokeru) usually means that the opponent is unable to injure the fighting arm. Definitely a fighting style for the patient. This is Kagemaru's preferred style.
Handguard (Form II): A fighting style used by the Adarakis, created specifically for offense. Created during practices amongst the members of the family, this style was developed as a move to nullify the Handguard Form I style, but has also become the standard Adarakis Clan offensive technique. Wearing a handguard made of tough materials (usually steel), the Adarakis assume the same stance as in Handguard Form I, but instead of using the back of their hand to deflect blows, their 'blocking hand' is equipped with a small weapon (typically a slightly larger kunai for hand-to-hand combat, as opposed to a throwing kunai), used either to nullify the Handguard or to parry blows. That doesn't stop the kunai for being used in offensive manoeuvres however. Due to this, the drawback of using only one arm to attack is overcome. While not offering as much defense as Handguard Form I, this style of fighting makes up for it in attack capability. This is Mazrakiel's preferred style.
Shadow Sense: Not really a technique, but most Adarakis (most importantly Herion and Kagemaru) are able to sense changes in the shadows they are touching in a small radius around them (limited to the shadow, or a radius of 5-10m). Like a motion detector; the larger/faster the change, the easier it is to pick up, ranging from shadows of people walking through the marketplace, to incoming kunai and other projectiles. While this ability is fairly limited during the day (unless standing underneath a large shadow, say a shelter or arena), this ability really shines at night. Used in tandem with quick reactions, the Shadow Sense can be a powerful aid in battle.
Mazrakiel's shadow sense has not yet been developed. Not even slightly. Remotely. However, after the explosion in the "Disaster!" chapter, Mazrakiel decides to follow through with his promise to his father and vows to attempt to develop it (had he been better at using this skill, he might've been able to avoid injury).
* Initially I devised this technique after seeing the Ghost Sword ability in Fable. However, I've altered it more to a shadow ability, but in doing so, perhaps I may have made it a little more powerful than the useless ability in Fable. Lol. Ideally the limitations wouldn't have been on this technique, but if not, Maz could've just gone Kagetokeru and passed through someone's shadow and killed them effortlessly – making him a near unstoppable force at night-time. I wanted to balance the technique and be less... godmodder. XD I'm trying to come up with reasons for me not to use this technique, because I don't intend to use it too much. Oh, and the 95% hit rate is because surely a very highly skilled ninja (ie. Hokage, or the other members of Mitsu-K) would be able to dodge it. So, hopefully that'll do eh? ^____^
