Obviously we're either not video game fans, not hype fans, not X-Box fans, or just generally not Halo fans here. Or maybe we're closet Halo fans.
But we haven't yet started up a thread for this game (which I recently have started to play). Having moved on from Fable (which was decent) I grabbed the next game that caught my eye in the pile, which was Halo (original).
It's not too bad of a game. It's a decent FPS, for the X-Box. But... it's on X-Box. And you use a controller. I dunno... I play FPSs on the computer, where controls are customizable, flow well (given the keyboard) and aim is incredibly refined thanks to the mouse. On the X-Box controller... it's not too bad... but you really have to crank the sensitivity up.
I'm roughly halfway through the single-player game on Heroic difficulty (in a shocking move, I started the game on the second hardest difficulty - Heroic, while everyone else started on Normal). I've actually found the game kind of fun, mainly because I die some of the time and keep trying to get it. It does get a bit frustrating at times, though -- I was playing in front of my mate (the one who owns the X-Box) and he said "It would usually take one grenade to kill that on a lower difficulty" while I'd thrown three, scored direct hits and the bloody thing was still charging at me like a maniac. AHHHH.
I suppose the other reason I haven't got full enjoyment from this game is that at present, there's only 1 X-Box in the group, which means only one copy of Halo, which means no decent multiplayer. This game's apparently really good multiplayer... but I have to say it looks no different to the likes of Battlefield or UT2K4 for PC. And those actually look better. Still, I suppose, for the X-Box it's a great game.
If you're looking for FPS fun though, stick to PC. Sure you have to upgrade your PC to a fairly decent spec, but once you do, the games are much better than offered in Halo. Oooh, but Halo's a FPS with vehicles!! So is Battlefield. So is UT2K4. And UT even has Assault mode.
Still, the story's not too bad. And the game IS quite enjoyable, for a while. Also great having seen Red vs Blue... XD... so far I give Halo 7.5/10.
I eagerly await the playing of Halo 2, in hopes that my high expectations are matched.
Anyone else care to comment?
