His eyes quickly scanned the page at the front of the room, looking for his name. "Team #10. Mazrakiel of Adarakis."
The classroom had been set out differently for today. Today was the day the students were to be sorted into teams of three. Usually, a teacher stood at the front of the class and called out the names of the students and what team number they were in. As an exercise, the teacher decided to try things differently today: the list was pinned to the front of the class, and the students were to sort themselves out into their teams as fast as possible. The fastest team would be rewarded with a free lunch at Ichiraku.
Maz -- much like the rest of the class -- enjoyed a good meal at Ichiraku, and so he was excited to meet up with his team-mates and claim the meal at the ramen stand. Not only that, but he was actually looking forward to the idea of being grouped with others. But above all else, he couldn't wait to start missions. Especially proper missions. That might put him one step closer to what his father was before he was born: assistant to the Ninth Hokage.
The students were a mess. Most of them had opted for the less efficient approach of introducing themselves to the students they didn't know -- with hopes that they would be the other people on their team -- and calling out names above the rest of the crowd. The students may have (for the most part) known each other, but there were an awful lot of them to wade through.
Maz heard a girl's voice call out. "Team #10, meet up by the door! The other members of Team #10, come to the door!"
By the door. Got it. Stuck in the crowd, Maz used the quick way to get out of the mess -- Kagetokeru. Like a black fog being sucked underneath the crowd, he was there one second and gone the next -- he left a few students around him a bit stupefied. Underneath the students, he shifted along their shadows until reaching the door, where among those who stood off to the side -- the people who didn't particularly care about the free lunch at Ichiraku -- there stood a girl about his age, calling out "Team #10! Team #10!" out to the crowd.
Slowly, the black fog crept up behind her. She turned around to see it condense and pack together to form a human shape. "Ah!" She let out a small fright, almost jumping out of her skin, before calming down.
"Whoa, sorry there. I'm part of Team #10." Maz said calmly.
Placing her hand on her chest and recovering from the fright, she began to speak. "Yes yes, you scared me that's all," said the girl, catching her breath. "For a second you, looked like... like a ghost."
"Like... a ghost?"
She nodded.
He held out his hand to the girl and laughed. She was GORGEOUS; her long dirty blonde hair falling down just past her shoulder blades, and she was shorter than him, about 5'8". She wore glasses, which were lifted above her forehead; her eyes, he noticed, were really blue. "I'm Mazrakiel, of the Adarakis Clan."
"I'm... Dayna. Dayna Marlin..."

"Today is the day" Sorien announced to himself, having recently gained Genin status he was more than eager to meet his team and complete some proper missions. "But why on earth do things this way...are they TRYING to make us disorderly...or are they testing our skill? Either way...its a free mean at Ichiraku." Soriens eyes skimmed over the text...Sorien, Sorien, Sorien...his eyes skimmed over the text, until they lay upon his new team...Team 10..."Fantastic! He thought. "Its my lucky number!"
He had little time to contemplate this, being shoved about in the central crowd, before he heard a clear voice above the rest. "Team #10, meet up by the door! The other members of Team #10, come to the door!" "Ah-ha!" Sorien said outloud, upon hearing this. "But how to get through this crowd..." Sorien racked his brain, in search of a way to get out of this predicament. "Ah-ha!" He said for a second time. Hand seals later he cried "Henge no jutsu". When the smoke cleared Sorien was nowhere to be seen. Sorien looked about, "Taking the form of a small agile creature was sure to work" he told himself. "But these ears...on task Sorien". With the grace of his transformed rabbit body, he darted amongst peoples feet with the greatest of ease. "Target aquired" He giggled as he bounded up to the door. "Release!" He cried.
With another puff of smoke, he returned to his natural state. He stood before a tall, dark teen, and an attractive young woman. "Gidday!" He said in a hurried friendly manner. "So...how do we claim our prize" He smiled

Dayna and Mazrakiel shook hands.
"Mazrakiel... the, ghost, who, scared me half to death on my first day in our team."
Mazrakiel laughed.
* * * * * * *
Suddenly another student poofed up out of nowhere, standing next to the door -- almost giving Dayna another fright. "Gidday!" he exclaimed, seeming friendly. Suffering from almost another heart attack, Dayna jumped slightly, and let out another "Ah!" before stopping to catch her breath again. Maz laughed.
"So... how do we claim our prize?" the boy asked.
Dayna looked at Sorien curiously. She didn't know the boy; Maz knew his face and name, but little else than that. "You're Sorien, right?"

"You're Sorien, right?" "Yeah mate, and...I've seen you before...Mazrakeel is it? I forget...put it there man" Sorien stuck his hand out to shake Mazz's hand. "Anyway...with all of these introductions...we won't get our feed" Sorien said again...quite eager to get moving. "However...Sorry 'bout the fright: Dayna...if I heard right?"
(OoC: Yes...I did spell Mazrakiel wrong on purpose...to preserve memories XD)

"Yeah mate, and... I've seen you before... Mazrakeel is it? I forget... put it there man..." Sorien held his hand out to Maz, who in return shook it -- "Mazrakiel" he corrected his new team-mate. "But Maz will do fine, if you wish."
Sorien nodded. "Anyway... with all of these introductions... we won't get our feed." Sorien seemed eager to get moving to the front to claim their free lunch. Maz seemed to think so too: other teams were starting to form. "However... sorry about the fright, Dayna... if I heard right?"
The girl smiled, brightly. "Yes yes, Dayna. Dayna Marlin." She bowed her head slightly, and made the comment that if they didn't get up the front quickly, they'd miss ou--
"And the winning group is... Team #3!"
The crowd let out a sigh of uproar. The free lunch had just been claimed. Maz grunted at the front, while Dayna let out a disheartened "Aww... I was hungry too." The crowd began to slowly disperse, as teams formed and made their way to their own areas of the room. All around the class, students were beginning to form relationships with their new team-mates; some friendly, others not.
"When you've found your team-mates, you may leave for lunch! Class dismissed!" called out the teacher.
Maz looked to Sorien, and nodded his head. Dayna looked to her new team-mates. "Well, what now? I didn't bring any lunch... I was too excited this morning to think about food." she asked.
"Well... I know of some restaurant not too far from here. How 'bout we head on down that way? They do really good tempura."
Dayna smiled. "Uh... yeah, that'd be good. Lead the way... Ghost..."
"What do you think Sorien? You up for it? Can you turn down a feed?" asked Mazrakiel.

"Kuso!" Sorien spat when he heard the announcement. After a short exchange, Mazz piped up "Well... I know of some restaurant not too far from here. How 'bout we head on down that way? They do really good tempura." Sorien nodded. "Yeah, sounds like fun." They made their way back through the door they met at before, and made their way back out into the sunshine. "Ahh...gotta love the sun" Sorien said perking up instantly. "And not only that, but we're off for lunch."
Mazz lead a bit before Sorien spoke again. "So whats you guys favourite jutsu? Any one I'd know?"

Dayna smiled at Sorien as he enjoyed the sun. She looked to Maz, and smiled at him too -- this made Maz blush slightly. Her dirty blonde hair glowed slightly as she moved, and swung gently from side to side. She looked, so...
"So, what's you guys favourite jutsu? Any one I'd know?" Sorien interrupted his train of thought.
"Oh, I've always liked the flashy techniques." Dayna responded. She was fairly acrobatic, and used many jutsu to enhance her speed and manoeuverability. She loved to get to places no-one else normally could. She demonstrated her ability by cartwheeling -- no hands -- and while vertical, flicked her arm in a wave-like motion; a gust of wind promptly blew her up and sent her high into the air, almost flying; her limbs waving in the air almost uncontrollably, but she had control; she uprighted herself and gracefully descended, landing on a nearby rooftop. She bowed elegantly; Maz smiled and clapped -- she stood back up and smiled back.
Maz's favourite jutsu... on the other hand...
"I don't think you'd know of it mate. It's not in any books at school, you see. Maybe you've seen me use it... but... it's the tech I use the most..."

Sorien watched Dayna fly, with the greatest control through the air and daintily land again. He applauded with Mazz, "That sure was some cool jutsu" He thought. "So...do you use the wind then Dayna? Like I use fire?" Sorien was somewhat intrigued , and opened up his mind to other people who might be able to control the elements.
It was Mazrakiels turn to break his train of thought. "I don't think you'd know of it mate. It's not in any books at school, you see. Maybe you've seen me use it... but... it's the tech I use the most..." "Oh...care to give a demo Mazz?" replied an eager Sorien. "And don't you go anywhere Dayna alright?" He yelled up to Dayna, now perched on the rooftop. Sorien turned back to Mazz.

Maz shook his head. "Now now, mate. Can't play the Ace of Spades for a first move now, can I?" he smirked. "Besides... you're bound to see it sometime."
* * * * * * *
Dayna saw the two begin to walk around the corner of the building she was on, headed for the restaurant. Taking a running start, she leapt from the building much in the same fashion she got up there -- a spectacular array of twists and turns in mid-air that would make any gymnast's stomach churn, before a stunning, perfect landing, right in front of Maz and Sorien. She stood up and giggled. She was showing off. Definitely.
They had reached the restaurant. It was a small all-you-can-eat buffet; fitting for the guys, although Maz hadn't inherited his father's stomach. It was fairly cheap too, and the food was great. Normally Maz and his family went to Ichiraku if they were eating out... but they came to this place for special occasions. The chefs usually knew when the Adarakis Family came to eat -- they would have to work twice as hard to keep the place up and running. Everyone else seemed to like him, though.
It had only been a few days since Maz had been in; when he graduated to Genin his family shouted him. The person on reception was the same person who was on the few nights before, but he didn't know if the man recognised him.
"Ah... yes, table for three, please."
"Right this way, sir," spoke the man behind the counter. Picking up three menus he led them across the room, next to the buffet, and sat them down on their seats -- their table was fancy, with a red tablecloth draped over the top of its circular surface, and a vase in the center with a few flowers. A pair of unlit candles sat on both sides of the vase. The restaurant wasn't full -- there were several tables that were empty. That's not to say the restaurant was empty, however; a few small groups of people were spread around the room, engrossed in conversation.
The man asked "You will all be having the buffet, I presume? What can I get in the way of drinks?"

Sorien followed Mazz into the restaurant. "Ah... yes, table for three, please.". Sorien overheard him ask. The man, leading them to their tables, and preceeded to observe the finer details. "Considering I haven't been in Konoha all of my life, that probably explains why I haven't been in here yet." He thought, still gazing around. "Nice table setting" He thought.
Sorien picked up the menu and begun to read off it. He swayed his head from side to side when he came to a fork in his mind. "That one...oh...but...mmm...but...that ones what I...but then." Sorien stopped when he had realised that he had aquired strange looks from Mazz and Dayna. "Whoops...I guess I let my head get a little vocal there...sorry. I'll um...I'll take the 'Konoha Kooler' thanks" Sorien replied to the man, finally making up his mind on his drink
Sorien went back to gazing around the restaurant. He let his ears relax, and missed what Mazz and Dayna asked for drinks. He begun to think about his group so far...quite cool in his opinion...he was getting along well.

"One Konoha Kooler." The man wrote it down on his pad. He looked to Dayna next, and asked "What will you be having, ma'am?"
"Oh, a glass of apple juice will do, thanks."
"I'll have some too, please." answered Maz.
The man wrote it down, before bowing and leaving to fetch drinks.
The table was quiet. Sorien was looking around the restaurant; Dayna had her eyes on the middle of the table; Maz was quietly thinking to himself, also staring at the center of the table.
It was Dayna who broke the silence. Looking at Sorien, she asked "So, tell me about yourselves. What sort of things you like and dislike, your ambitions, that sorta thing?"

Sorien was still in his own world when Danyna's voice rung out again like it had in the class room. "So, tell me about yourselves. What sort of things you like and dislike, your ambitions, that sorta thing?" . Sorien thought about things for a while before he made his response. He casually waved his arm over the unlit candles, lighting them as his hand breezed over them. "Thats better, I can see your face a little easier now. Right. Where to start. The beginning works...I have no parents. I raised myself from a child...I have a little brother named Amnis, who I also raised" Sorien spoke casually as if this were such a simple thing. "A little while ago I moved to Konoha, to train as a ninja...didn't take me long to graduate, and here I stand....sit before you" Sorien corrected himself.
"I aspire to be like the Sannin." He announced "They were strong, as strong as a Hokage, but they didn't have the title of Hokage, and they had power to defend what was important to them, my goal. To defend everything important to me, and if I can't do that, then die doing so...that would be the greatest honour" Sorien finished his impromptu speech. "Oh yeah" He grinned. "I'm a fire element" He made both hands form an ok sign, and then burst flame out of the tips of the index fingers, only about a foot high though, not enough to frighten anyone.
"So, what about you Mazz?" Sorien asked

A fire element. Highly interesting. Fire, wind and shadow. The team got on well enough; he respected them both. And now, it was Maz's turn to answer her question. "Well... let's see... what can I say about myself? Uhhh, I love my family. They're my life. 'Specially my father; for a long time my father's been teaching me the things he knows... martial arts, jutsu, that sort of thing. I totally have respect for him. He's the greatest." Dayna smiled. He spoke so fondly of his father. She wondered if she'd get to meet him. "Ambitions... let's see..." Maz paused for a second. "Well... see... before I was born, my father was assistant to the Ninth Hokage." -- he stopped, recalling memories of his father telling him that if he wants to be assistant to Hokage, he has to prove his worth and do as he is told -- "...I think that's what I'd like to be. Being leader of the village would be cool... but I don't know if I have what it takes. I'm not too worried about being Hokage anyway. It's not my thing... but... I think, to be assistant to the Hokage. There's something I can be." Sorien and Dayna nodded. 'Wow' thought Dayna. 'Assistant to the Ninth Hokage? I didn't know that... that's pretty cool.'"How about yourself, Dayna?" Maz asked. But before she could answer, the man had returned with a tray; two glasses of apple juice and one 'Konoha Kooler', with another bottle of something else. He placed them on the table in front of the team members. "Two glasses of apple juice and one 'Konoha Kooler'." The man smiled, placed the tray down on another nearby table, and before the conversation could resume, he continued. "And..." He placed the bottle on the table: a bottle of sake. "Compliments of the staff. Wishing Konoha's newest Genin good luck," -- he nodded at Maz; he did recognise him after all -- "and congratulations." He smiled and bowed, before walking off to tend to other customers. After he'd left, Dayna looked down at the bottle of sake before whispering to her teammates, "...I don't drink." "Neither do I," Maz smiled. "I s'pose the bottle's yours, Sorien." * * * * * * * "So, then. This is it, we're a team then." "Only if you're paying," Dayna joked. Maz chuckled. "What are we going to call ourselves? We can't just be Team #10, can we? 'Coz then next time Genin graduate, we lose our number." "Well, I think normally we'd be our sensei's team... but--hey, why weren't we given a sensei?" Dayna was right. Normally they'd be assigned a Jounin leader. Had their teacher forgotten to assign them a...nah... "Well, maybe I'll go speak with Tokugawa-sensei tomorrow then." Dayna said. "Well, that still doesn't solve the problem of a name," Maz added. "Well, how about... Team Masoda?" Maz and Sorien looked at her, strangely. Dayna continued. "If you take the first two letters from each of our names, you get it. I know it sounds really dumb and cheesy, but... until we get a sensei, it works, right?" Maz shrugged. He guessed it would work. In fact, it almost sounded cheesy enough to be cool. "Works for me," he said. Maz reached for his glass. "How about a toast then? To us... Team Masoda." Dayna smiled and reached for hers, as did Sorien. "To Team Masoda." And with that, the team raised their glasses in toast. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
