Village
Hidden Sound Village
Location
The Rice Field Country
Leader's Title
Head Ninja
Current Leader
Igarashi Kotaro (5th)
Description
Buried deep within the forests of the Rice Field Country, Hidden Sound has moved from its original location to a more secure hideaway. The new village rests in a secluded valley surrounded on all sides by tall, heavily forested mountains. The buildings are almost entirely built out of wood, and are very heavily built. A good portion of the Sound's most secure locations are located deep underground, accessible only by a maze of catacombs open to a select few – indeed, only those allowed to enter even know where the entrances are. The entire village is surrounded by – and even filled with – trees, to the point where some buildings have had to be rebuilt because a growing tree began to move a particular house or shop out of its way.
Because the village is so inaccessible to normal people – the only way into the valley is a steep, narrow mountain pass – they have a small outpost on the “Outside” to which citizens may come to request missions. Among the buildings present there are the Administration Building, an inn, housing for Sound Shinobi stationed there, a medical clinic, and a few small shops.
History
After events concerning the Sannin Orochimaru and his would-be vessel, the Hidden Sound quite nearly perished. The shinobi Orochimaru had influenced to do his bidding now returned to their homes, and families all over the country tried desperately to just forget and live on in peace. This, however, would prove to be nothing more than a dream – seeing the Rice Field Country's military weakness caused by the collapse of the Sound Village, enemy countries soon began attacking, attempting to assimilate the small country into their own borders. It was then that one former Sound ninja, Igarashi Takehiko, realized that in order to protect the Rice Field Country and the lives of its citizens, the Hidden Sound must be born again.
Takehiko moved quickly, relocating the Hidden Sound to a more secure location and calling up everyone who was willing to fight, be they veteran shinobi, new recruits, or civilians willing to support the effort. Enlisting the aid of the Hidden Leaf, by this time under the leadership of the Sixth Hokage, Takehiko led his people through battle after battle, pushing back the enemy soldiers with the help of their new allies. Sadly, though, he would not live to see the strong, peaceful village he had dreamed of – not long before the War ended, he was killed in battle. Spurred on by their hero's death and led by his wife and sons, the reborn Village of Sound pushed back the invaders, secured their borders, and at last the War of Invasion came to a close.
Since the war, the Hidden Sound has undergone a Renaissance. Strict laws concerning human experimentation were put in place, with harsh penalties for anyone who violates them. Advances were made in science, medicine, and the shinobi arts. The early village leaders were quick to declare amnesty and shelter for those who had been affected by Orochimaru's experimentation, and have since been known as a safe haven to the citizens of its country. Currently, though small, Hidden Sound has proven itself as a village, and its shinobi are respected as being among the best-educated in the ninja world.
