Thought I'd spice things up a little, and tie in a thread to the main storyline (yes, I think I have one - currently brewing in my head so no writeup yet ) to boot. The basic idea is that two ninja coming in the name of diplomacy infiltrate Konoha and make it all the way to the Hokage's office, where the confrontation occurs. Rather startled at the turn of events, Kaori fights off the two and ends up killing them - instead of capturing them so information could be gained. More on this a bit later since I have to sign off now, but I thought I'd throw it out there to see what you all think.

Sounds good. XD
Hmm. Perhaps if it ties into Kaori's backstory... maybe the two assassins (sent by Raikage, but at this point Kaori doesn't know that) speak to Kaori and say "Our leader wishes to give you something... death!" or something like that... lol

Sounds cool, but I have to admit, it does sound kinda corny. ^^;;;;; I think it'd be more exciting if they came for peace but just attacked clear out of the blue....maybe one of them could have a message of sorts that's found after they're killed? Like orders or a personal note to the village that they would have left in the office after assassinating Kaori. Or something.

That's cool. I think a note to the village, saying something like "If you think what we did to your leader's bad, wait 'til you see what else is in store!" I don't know exactly... but something like that; something that makes Konoha think Grass's going to attack again. They were supposed to leave the note behind when they completed the mission (but Kaori finds it anyway after killing them), and use it as a method to strike fear into the people of Konoha... after all, wars can be fought in many ways. A true master attacks mind, spirit and body. In this case, Grass are simply attacking the mind.
But yeah. You're right, about them just attacking out of the blue. Maybe they could even try to blow up Hokage's Office, for all of Konoha to see?
Maybe they could even leave little clues hidden around the village, to suggest that Konoha's under siege... such as make it look like the water supply's been poisoned... all these events could lead to the proposed "alerts".
Sorry. I play Warcraft III alot... and I think I just might be a little TOO much into my wargames. lol
Before I end this post, sorry if any of these ideas are reminiscient of terrorism in any form, or anything like that in our world today. Peace on Earth, y'hear. XD

Peace on Earth or else, huh? Hehe.
I like the explosion idea. Maybe they could set a bomb (or something blow-uppity) somewhere near the foundation of the building for a distraction, maybe inside a basement or something if they can get down there, then set off another in Hokage's office during the actual attack.
I was actually thinking of having this occur on Maz's first day as Kaori's errand boy. Akina could take him on a tour of the building - you know, introductions, what goes where and what the general layout of the building is, etc, etc - leaving Kaori alone to meet the assassins when they come. When they come back after all the explosions and everything, the office is a wreck, most of it is scattered all over the place and covered in smoke and soot - where it wasn't once on fire - and the assassins are dead on the floor.....while Kaori is calmly sitting on top of her desk, sipping the ever-present glass of water and just kind of surveying the whole situation. Lol.
Ideas?

Is this revenge for suggesting the Kages drop like flies?
lol
Hmm. Perhaps it COULD be on Maz's first day... the way I see it, however, the Assassin Arc triggers the main plotline. For example, Maz returns from training, has a meal at Ichiraku, meets with Hokage, gets hired to be errand boy, shows up for work the next day, and Konoha goes Code Red. lol If we were to have, say the Konoha Cooking Showdown Arc before the Chuunin Exam... we would most likely have to have it before the Assassin Arc too.
I do like the idea though. Perhaps we can just have the cookoff later. XD
Might I also suggest that... err... lol... Maz get wounded in the explosion? I think the explosion should touch Kaori on a more personal level, which slightly affects her judgement of having to go Code Red. I don't think you'd be very pleased if I suggested to nuke Akina XD... so I figured I'd offer Maz to be wounded by the attack. To have her react so calmly wouldn't really be enough to spur her to calling a Code Red.. but if someone she knew got hurt, I think she'd react a lot stronger.
Who knows? Maybe even Maz/Akina could be the one to set off the bomb in the basement (or wherever it's going to be)? You know.
Akina: "And in this room is..." *BOOM!* Kaori: What was that sound?! Assassins strike.
I dunno. You know? LOL

Actually, I was planning on having them on their way back to the office when the bomb goes off, so they're upstairs when BOOM! There might be some people injured since the building's a pretty busy place, but Kaori knows enough to declare a code red when she needs to. The fact that she's sitting there as calm as a summer day is a result of her experience as a ninja and inborn ability to keep a level head in tough situations.
Either way would be pretty cool though. Maz getting injured would give me a chance to show off some medical jutsu...

Hehe, okay. Well, I think it's settled that Maz gets injured. Not Obito-style injured and smashed... just, like, a broken arm or something and gets a tad dazed or some'n.
Oh, and expect a slight overreaction on Kagemaru's behalf as well. XD
So. Single or dual bomb attack? I just thought of Maz or Akina setting off the second bomb because ideally, if Maz were to be injured, he'd be close to the blast... as opposed to... climbing the stairs, far away from the explosion. XD

Akina could notice the bomb at the last second, tackle him to the ground to protect him.....and that's how he breaks his arm. That'd be kinda funny.
"So, your arm got broken in the blast, huh?" "No..." "No? So how did it get broken?" "Your assistant." "....."
Anyways.....I was thinking (thanks in part to the AIM convo with Mazzy).....what if the attackers don't stop there? There's one good way to get Kaori angry, riled up, and possibly cause her to make hasty decisions:
Attack the weak, the innocent, and those who can't take care of themselves.
And there's only one place in Konoha that has people like that, that's close enough to the Ninja Administration to also affect their building: the hospital.
Now, no one would be seriously injured in the blast, though those with particularly serious injuries anyways would obviously be in more dange..., but other than that it's mostly structural damage to the building and scare factor - though there would of course be some injury involved. This attack serves multiple purposes:
1) Distracting attention away from the attack on Hokage 2) Doing damage to an already weakened village 3) Making Hokage angry, so she's more likely to make hasty decisions and slip up, further weakening the village 4) Providing a stronger reason to go Code Red 5) Giving Konoha a more intense drive to find those responsible and resolve the matter 6) Kicking the fic into high gear for serious parts of the story arc's main plotline while providing action at the same time
Well, there it is. Comment and contribute as you will.
(Please note that I am aware of how serious attacking a hospital is. I'm suggesting this for the sake of strengthening the story and deepening the impact of the fic, not because I think it'd be cool to blow up innocent people. Cause I don't. Thank you.)
EDIT: This also provides the perfect opportunity for the Cooking Contest: charge money to get in and watch to raise money to help the victims of the attacks and cheer them up at the same time!

This story keeps getting better (and scarier) by the minute... XD
Yeah, the destruction of the hospital sounds... well... good.
It begins to make you think with all the destruction they're causing whether their target was really Hokage anyway. XD

Well, such is the nature of Raikage. She's so single-minded and bullheaded that once she sets her mind on a goal, she will do nothing else and stop at nothing to achieve it, and to do it her way. She's also extremely childish when it comes to things like that, which really doesn't help. This nature of hers actually made her ideal for the "Dream Team" at one point: her volatile temperament was balanced by Kaori's ability to step back and look at the situation with a level head while "Kaz" was able to restrain Rai long enough for him and Kaori to decide what to do. Once a conclusion was reached, they could always count on Rai to do her part. Now, however, she's on her own, without the balancing and restraining effects of the other two. Which makes her extremely jealous, especially where Kaori is concerned. She doesn't care who she steps on or how many people she harms, all she cares about is getting her goal her way....which brings us to the whole idea of the attacks. Raikage knows darn well that those two assassins wouldn't be able to kill Kaori. Remember Orochimaru ordering the Sound Three to kill Sasuke during the Chuunin exams? It's like that. She ordered them to kill Kaori knowing full well that they'd die... and thus tricked them into being given a seal (well, either tricked them or somehow did it without their knowledge) much like the Caged Bird seal the Hyuuga clan uses......but more on that later. Anyways, the bombs are set (most likely by other ninjas who manage to sneak in somehow) and the emissaries make their way to the office. The bombs go off in this order: First is the Ninja Administration building, then the bomb in the hospital. Immediately after this the two assassins detonate explosives in Kaori's office and the battle ensues (Please note that this all happens in pretty quick succession). Kaori kills the assassins and sercures her office, meets up with Maz and Akina, heals anyone who really needs it (all while Akina's trying to check her for any injury) and checks out the damage to the basement. It's at this point that she gets the news of the attack on the hospital and immediately heads over. Patients are taken care of, etc, etc. Alerts: Kaori declared an alert after the battle in her office was over, but it doesn't become S-class (pretty much a triple Code Red) until she learns about the hospital attack. That's when she initiates the complete lockdown. After the attacks, of course, will be all kinds of meetings and such to try to decide what's going on. The bodies of the assassins are taken to ANBU headquarters for an autopsy to gain information. Some is gained from things like their clothing, the things they carry, but they need the autopsy to learn anything crucial. Raikage knew this. The seal the two were given is kind of a self-destruct seal. They were also equipped with dormant exploding tags that are activated by fire. When the ANBU examination team begins the autopsy, however, the self-destruct seal is triggered and the bodies are instantly incinerated, leaving nothing but ash and the now-active exploding tags. The team have just enough time to realize what's going on when the tags explode, and I'm pretty sure you all know what would happen if a fire started in a lab, what with all those chemicals and all. So now they have all this damage, the scare factor of being attacked, and just enough information to know something of what's going on but just little enough not to be able to do anything about it except brood and drive oneself crazy waiting for the next clue (READ: Bait). Fun, isn't it? Anyways, I was also thinking one of the assassins could be carrying a note, some hastily scrawled kanji: "Nothing". It can't be sure that that's what it even is since the handwriting is so bad, and no one knows what it means or why they left it, so more creepiness there. I think I got everything. Phew, that took forever to type.

Sounds good. I had this idea that Raikage knew the two assassins wouldn't be able to defeat Hokage, so she planted the explosives in them as a sort of, suicide bombing. Maybe she did this with HOPES that it would get Hokage, but she didn't expect it to... so she was simply putting these ninja to good use by blowing them up. lol
It's like, Terror at Konoha. Destroy the hospital. Destroy Hokage. Destroy the Ninja Admin building. Save the whales. Save the trees.
Sounds good though. What more do we need to get started?
MORE PARTS FOR OTHER PEOPLES. lol

Kohana's older brother Aijou, as an ANBU Squad Leader, would definitely be involved. I've already talked to Hiroshi about it so that part's set. Other than that, unless someone wants to TPC someone working in the hospital when the bomb goes or something, pretty much the only thing they can do is play out hearing the explosions and reacting. Maybe they can come to see if everything's okay and then Kaori could order them to search for any enemy ninja that might be lurking around.....or something.
