Name: Homura Taro
Age: 36
Gender: Male
Rank: Jounin
Height: 6'0"
Appearance: When it comes to appearance, Taro is a man that values simplicity. His shaggy, chesnut-colored hair is kept medium length at the most, and his clothes rarely consist of more than a t-shirt or tank top and cargo khaki shorts or pants. He can often be seen wearing a black pendant that looks like a half of a yin-yang; and in spite of his wife's death, he is still always wearing his wedding ring. Just like the rest of the Homura clan, he possesses firey red-orange eyes, though he usually covers them up with a pair of squared, rimless glasses. However, when going on a mission or entering a scenario where he could be in a fight, he will usually swap them out for contacts. He hates having to wear shoes and will go without them whenever possible, even on missions. He has a muscular build and relatively tanned complexion, and looks every bit the taijutsu powerhouse that he is.
Personality: Taro was once described by his father as a "featherbrained kook," and one would be hard-pressed to dub this description inaccurate. Cheery, playful, and scatterbrained to a fault, to most Taro would not exactly be the picture of responsibility. It's not really that he's uncaring or stupid, he just happens to be a little eccentric. He would much prefer composing riddles and telling jokes to being serious. However, with age has come the wisdom that there is a time for joking and a time for seriousness, and though he walks a fine line with it, he has learned the distinction. In spite of the impression he gives off, he is rather quick-witted and intelligent. He also has a deep capacity to love, as well as an overdeveloped sense of empathy. He simply cannot stand to see others unhappy or suffering, and will do all within his power to help them. His daughter, Nadameru, is the most important person in the world to him, and he would do absolutely anything for her.
Likes: Sweets, food in general, parties and dancing
Dislikes: Having to be serious, gloomy folks, when Nada scolds him
Family:
Father: Homura Tsuyoi
Mother: Homura Atsui
Homura Hotaru (wife) [deceased]
Homura Nadameru (daughter)
Homura Kisen (sister-in-law)
Assaku Rune (nephew)
History: From the start, Taro was a little different from the rest of his family. While most of them were studying or meditating, he was telling jokes and making pranks. He knew right from the beginning that being serious and sitting around doing nothing was just not his thing, and he was going to get as much fun out of life as he possibly could. This didn't score him any points with his father, Tsuyoi, who favored hard work and tradition, and often scolded Taro for his lackadaisical outlook on life.
Things did not improve for him at the ninja academy. Caring very little for studying in spite of his brilliant mind, he spent most of his time daydreaming or playing practical jokes on his sensei. Although he was popular with the other students, he soon found that while he goofed off and his grades floundered, his classmates all excelled and graduated, leaving him behind. One such student was a kunoichi by the name of Homura Hotaru, a girl a year older than he. She always thought he was funny and encouraged his comedic pursuits, but she began to express concern when he did not graduate with the rest of his class. As she looked at him with disappointment, it was then that Taro realized just how much she meant to him, and he was disturbed to see her looking at him with the same eyes that his father so often did. Determined to prove to everyone that he could make something of himself, Taro at last had the motivation he needed and dove into his studies with fervor.
Still, his years grounded in inertia had set him back considerably. It was not until he was almost sixteen that he graduated the academy. By this time, Hotaru had already become a chuunin and was well on her way to becoming a jounin. Although he was ashamed by his slow ascent in the ranks, Taro was determined to succeed. Seeing his perserverance in the face of his struggle, Hotaru began helping him on his way, and they grew to be an inseparable pair. By the time he was nineteen the two were married, and he was finally promoted to the rank of chuunin.
Shortly after their marriage, Nadameru was born, and Taro felt that he had never been happier. He put his training on the backburner as he became more interested with spending time with his family. Because of this, it wasn't until he was twenty-six that he was finally promoted to the rank of jounin. Most of his extended family, his father in particular, turned their noses up at this. He had worked hard and he had made it to jounin, but it still wasn't good enough. To his father, he should have done it sooner, faster, quicker. He should have been more extraordinary. It seemed that to his father he would always be no more than mediocre.
Thankfully for Taro, it didn't matter. He was happy with his wife and daughter, and two years after his promotion he was given a genin team to watch over. For him, life was perfect, with or without the approval of Tsuyoi.
When the war broke out, he did all he could to aid Konoha in the battle. Unfortunately, as a result he was forced to neglect his family, and he has regretted it ever since. Even worse, just a year before the end of the war, Hotaru was killed in action. Completely overwhelmed by the loss of his wife, for the first time in his entire life he found his humor failing him. For the first time he could remember, he found himself unable to smile.
During this time Nadameru had been promoted to chuunin and was participating in progressively more dangerous missions. Nearly destroyed by the death of Hotaru, Taro panicked and demanded that Nada refuse any more missions offered to her by the Hokage. It escalated into an argument, and neither side was willing to give in. In the end, Taro realized he could not stop her from doing her duty, no matter how much the thought of her being in danger hurt or frightened him. Alas, the damage was done. For quite some time, in spite of living together and Nada continuing to care for him as she had since her mother's death, the two were slightly estranged. In a time when they should have been holding to one another to stay strong, they were apart, suffering alone. Only recently have the two begun to restore their relationship and grow close again, though Nada is often still frustrated by her father.
Currently, Taro has been less active on missions, instead doing paperwork for the Hokage. However, he hopes to be given some more exciting assignments in the future.
Trivia:
•Taro is left-handed.
•He hates wearing a forehead protector (it "gets in the way!")
•Once he confiscated some sweets his wife had made for someone else and ate so many that he was sick for 3 days!
