Name: Mezatoi Kaisa
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Rank: Chuunin
Blood Type: AB-
Affinity: Fire
Weapon of Choice: Manriki Kusari (chain) (3)
Appearance:
Mezatoi Kaisa has straight hair of such a dark shade of red that it seems black in low light, but it is not burgundy. Hanging to her waist, it is fastened in seven braids, two in front, five behind, which are wrapped with steel wire and black ribbon. She has even, thick bangs ending just above her brows, which are of the same shade as her hair. Beneath that are two deep indigo eyes, ringed outer and inner with blue-black. Her well-tanned skin is marred only by the thick scar across her left shoulder. She stands at 5’8” with a slim to medium build; her strength comes from wiry muscles. All in all, when not weighed down by any metal or pocket-fillers, she weighs 135 lbs. With her usual amount of stuff, she tends to push 210. However, the weight doesn’t slow her down at all, since she’s been lugging it around for the past ten years or so. If she were to fight without the weight, she would likely be even faster than her lithe form is normally.
As to what she wears, Kaisa is a creature of habit, and refuses to wear the typical Chuunin/Jounin vest that so many others love. Contrary to popular belief, she does actually have more than one set of her outfit, each is the same in design and colour. Each consists of a dull black jacket, with half-length loose sleeves. At the shoulder, she slit each sleeve, and then sewed the resulting flaps down on the inside. Along the inside of each sleeve is a pocket for one Manriki Kusari. The shirt worn beneath the jacket is tight, sleeveless, and is mesh from about three-quarters down. At the bottom edge of the mesh is a three-inch band of cloth, with one loop on the right hip. Small hooks attached to her third Manriki chain’s handles fit around this loop, with the chain itself acting like a belt. Loose pants, gathered top and bottom, are quite literally riddled with pockets; most of them have at least two compartments. The pants act as weights for training because of the sheer amount of stuff she likes to keep in them. The last few details are the dark blue sandals she wears at most times, the mid-forearm length, metal-backed black gloves she wears whenever possible, and the black Konoha forehead protector around her upper right arm, just below the slit on that sleeve.
Personality:
Kaisa is… simply put, unpredictable. Some days she is incredibly impatient, always picking out flaws or mistakes in the worst way possible, and being a general pain in the neck. On others, or for parts of others, she flips into reverse and is as patient as she can be impatient, carefully helping someone get something right, and more often then not, healing wounds she herself caused just minutes, hours, days (or longer) before. However, most of the time, she simply doesn’t show emotion. If unoccupied, she will just sit and stare at nothing, face expressionless, unmoving. If at work, she does it as it needs to be done without talking unless talking is necessary, ignoring all that she can. Even if she seems unaware, though, it is nigh impossible to sneak up on her without her knowing that you are there. If someone with murderous or otherwise negative intent approaches, unless she has reason to fight, she will leave. Reason to fight includes being on a mission or being in her room, among other things. If she doesn’t want to leave, she won’t. Reasons for her attitude buzz about Konoha among lower level ninja, though fellow Chuunin, as well as those above her, know why and how long she’s been the way she is. She generally has no wish to teach, though from time to time she will grudgingly accept a team.
Mezatoi Kaisa has a photographic memory. It has served her well in her many years as a shinobi of Konoha, and has a quick mind to match it. If she sees something clearly once, reads a message once, she can later review a memorized image of it. She is grateful to it, for in missions where a paperless message must be transported or a location found without being able to bring the map or directions, she can simply think back to when she saw it and act as if it were in front of her, as if she was reading it.
History:
Kaisa, born as the third daughter of a youngest son in the Mezatoi clan, was never expected to amount to much. It was admitted that she had excellent balance and had inherited the sharp eyesight her clan was known for, but she was quiet, and chose not to injure if it could be avoided. Determined that she be used for something, she was enrolled in the Academy at seven. Her first report card was nothing special, simply showing what her parents already knew: that she was a good student who stubbornly refused to hurt anything. She was ignored by her classmates as a kid who would never graduate, but it was their indifference that determined her fate. Spurned by her peers, she took to studying, more and more, later and later into the evening each night. Her parents wondered, but said nothing. If they tried to enter her room or ask what she read, she’d whisk everything away before they could identify it and shrug, saying that it was nothing. They could do nothing but turn away and try to set aside the odd behavior.
When her next exam arrived, the results revealed what she had been studying. A perfect score shocked her parents, teacher, and classmates (one seated behind her happened to glance down and see the mark). She had memorized, word for word, meaning for meaning, gesture for gesture, everything that had been taught, and then gone on further. She borrowed various books on jutsu from the library, and studiously learned each, practicing when no one, as usual, was looking or listening. She had copied entire scrolls on history into her memory, and could look up an answer as if she had the source in front of her. No one had expected a photographic memory, not even a decent one. It was the beginning of her surprises. When the final exam came, to see who would graduate and become Konoha genin, her scores were at the top. Her teammates were chosen to balance her, and at first she was irritated with their manner and weakness, silently wondering how they had even graduated in the first place. However, they improved at a faster rate than she, and soon they were considered equal. Slowly, their proximity evolved her indifference to appreciation and friendship. When the Chuunin exams came around, they were not held back but were nominated by their sensei.
During the first, written exam, Kaisa’s photographic memory and legions of jutsu learned carried them forwards, as she was able to figure out each question on her own and used a technique (for moving a distant object as if it is in your hand) to write out the answers on her companions’ sheets, even if she did accidentally write one of them upside down. The tenth question was passed, and they never mentioned to each other that one’s paper was upside down. In the second exam, the team worked efficiently and was one of the first groups to successfully complete the task. The third proved worse than the rest combined, for, by pure chance, Kaisa ended up fighting one of her teammates. Both unwilling to injure the other but refusing to lose, the match was one of the longest in the exam. Eventually, on threat of both being disqualified, the bout turned a bit ugly as they were forced to discard their friendship. In the end, Kaisa’s jutsu brought her to the top, but the team seemed broken. The third member had lost on his second match, and Kaisa found her way to the top of the genin in the exam. Fortunately, the judges deemed all three fit to be Chuunin, and the group did end up working well again.
It was some six months later that the small crack they had plastered would widen and they would be in truth be forever broken. During a mission, some ways away from Konoha, the task of catching a murderer in a small country turned uglier than the third exam. They discovered that he was a low member in a fairly large organization, one which decided the three Chuunin had gotten too close. Using their own powers of investigation, they located the team’s camp one moonless, frozen night, and attacked with numbers far greater than the Konoha ninjas’. Woken earlier by a call of nature, Kaisa was outside of the camp and undetected. The enemies were expecting all to be asleep, and Kaisa nearly was. She was on her way back when they struck, and the mass of exploding tags set around and in the camp ensured that none within survived. The blast knocked her back, though the noise was unnoticed in the commotion. The collision woke her the rest of the way, and, knowing the fate of her comrades from the cheering and jeering from the scattered adversaries, chose to flee. She was noticed then, as a shadow vanishing into the night. Chase was given, and a wrist snapped by the explosion rendered her jutsu useless. As she ran, she scattered the contents of her pockets, lightening herself and granting more speed. Eventually her pursuers lost her trail and had to give in. Nearly four days later, she returned to Konoha, weary, injured, and emotionally drained.
Once healed, she and a few other Chuunin headed out to where her group had been attacked, and the remains of her companions were found and returned. No hint or trace of the organization was found, and the lead Kaisa had had was gone. The murderer she had originally set out to find and capture was dead, likely at the hands of his own group. Kaisa was restricted to missions that didn’t require a team that knew each other incredibly well. On missions she was given when she was placed in a team, she generally ignored them. It was clear she had yet to heal. Now, nearly four years later, she hasn’t changed much, but her arsenal has improved as if she wants to make up for the techniques her companions can now never learn. She is skilled in a wide range of jutsu, though her best and most ingenious attacks are of fire. Many of her techniques are custom now, whether from evolving them from learned ones or creating them from scratch.
