Gray eyes widened for a moment at the sound of a blessedly familiar voice calling out his name. Before he could really comprehend the implications of what he was about to do, Utsuro straightened up fully, and swiftly, to look up the flight of stairs. "A-ayaka-san?!" Unfortunately, the sudden shift in his center of gravity was NOT something he had factored his hefty bundle of belongings into, and so tightly bound to his torso, he found himself teetering backwards no sooner than her name had left his lips. Oh this is going to suuuuuuuck..

"Tsutomegi!?" Oh no, he's gonna fall! Before she knew what she was doing, Ayaka was dashing headlong down the stairs towards her friend. Maybe if she reached him in time, she could help him straighten out before he fell. But her haste made her careless, and a reckless flight down the stairs resulted in a misplaced step. She tried - unsuccessfully for the most part - to stifle a cry of pain as her ankle rolled over sharply, and though she tried to both slow down and still reach her friend, she had built up too much downward momentum. Red-orange hair whipping everywhere, Ayaka pitched forward, down the staircase. And towards an already off-balance Tsutomegi.

Ah! Ayaka-san is hurt! She is falling! Guess who else is, knucklehead?!Utsuro was already ignoring him. Which was something of a feat, really, considering the proximity of the perturbed voice. A sandal-ed foot slammed into the closest riser of the stairwell with enough force to send a shooting pain up his leg, but the boy hardly cared. A quick burst of chakra provided enough 'glue' to hold his position there in midair for but a few seconds. It was enough time for him to stop his friend's descent with his own frame with enough temporal spare change to note that she was still in her work uniform, and his face promptly began to increase in temperature as it always did in such a situation. Thankfully, the impact snapped the chakra connection he had managed to forge, and Utsuro became far too busy with resuming his fall down the stairs to care about anything other than ensuring he took the brunt of the fall. His distaste for stairwells was rapidly becoming magnified as the turbulent tumble rammed his bundle into his back repeatedly before they finally came to rest at the landing below, a small heap of bodies atop a securely-wrapped mass of his personal effects. I hate moving.

.... I'm not falling. Why aren't I falling?
.... Oh. That's why.Ayaka just stared dumbly into Tsutomegi's face upon noticing that he had caught her. But... was he turning red!? Why was he turning red? Was it because he was doing that weird ninja sticking-to-things-at-strange-angles thing again? But wait. The last time he had done that.... Sure enough, immediately after the thought surfaced in her mind, they began falling again, with Ayaka being protected from further injury thanks to Tsutomegi shielding her. Still, it was a rather terrifying trip down, and it took a few moments after they reached for the bottom for Ayaka - who was still shaking slightly and clinging to Tsutomegi as though her life depended on it - to realize they weren't moving anymore. She couldn't seem to make herself move, though.

There was going to be at least one oddly-shaped bruise on Utsuro's back tomorrow morning. Even with his horrible luck, that was a fairly safe bet. Opening his eyes after the impacts had finally stopped, he could see the stairwell continuing upward above him, and just below that, Ayaka-san. Shaking like a leaf and clinging to him in a way that made his heart pound somehow faster than it already had been. But she was safe, at least. "G-ggood afternoon, Ayaka-san." He said softly in a slightly jittery voice. "Did I ever tell you that I hate stairs? Because I very much hate stairs right about now."

Blink. Blinkblink. "....Oh. Hi, Tsutomegi," Ayaka murmured a little shakily, peering up at her friend through the red-orange hair that was splayed out all over the place from their rough landing. "I... don't like them that much either anymore. But you probably hate them more 'cause... of... AH!" She gasped suddenly as the full realization of why she was fine hit her like a brick wall. "Tsutomegi, are you okay!?"

"Do not worry about me." Utsuro reassured her in his own odd, quiet fashion. "I have fallen out of windows...trees...roofs..even down a mountain once, remember. A single flight of stairs is rather comfortable by comparison, really. "Is your ankle all right? You sounded pained a moment ago.." He continued, craning his neck a bit to try and look towards it, though all he could really see was her legs, which was a rather unusual sight yet still to him.

"Ah? Um. Aughhh...." Ayaka had actually forgotten about that. The fall, and her subsequent slow recovery from the shock, had pushed it entirely out of her mind. But now that things were beginning to settle down, the pain came flooding back. "Actually, I dunno," she answered hesitantly, shifting her hand to a different spot on his chest so she could push herself up in a more gentle manner. "It still---" Wait. She looked at her hand. Both of them, really, resting there on his chest where they had been since she started clinging to him. Then slowly, like a fierce thunderstorm slowed to a crawl, it hit her. She. Was. On. Top. Of. Him. Somehow, though, despite the fact that she probably needed to move, it took a little while for her to be able to speak, and she could feel her face heating up. "Uhhh. Ah. Wha--- Oh yeah. Uh. My ankle. It... still hurts. I twisted it pretty bad."

She really is hurt! And right on top of you. Her face is even turning red! She must be fighting back tears to be brave..Ooor it could be because she's pretty much LAYING on you.. We need to get her some help! ..And then the catfish said...'sure, I can carry a tune-a!'..Ichi-sama, what ARE you going on about? ..Just do what you need to do, kid. I'm takin' a nap.Utsuro tried to assess the situation at hand, but even with his irremovable companion taking a nap, he still felt horribly warm and it was rather distracting. "First things first.." He mumbled to himself softly, slipping his arms free of the straps binding him to his belongings. "Just...hold tight a second." A snort resounded inside his head as Utsuro wrapped an arm around his friend tightly. As he slid down the bundle until his feet connected with the ground again, he twisted a bit to get his other arm beneath her legs and lift them up so he could stand fully without dumping her onto the ground. "Ha...that...actually worked...Now. I am going to set you down on the steps, grab my belongings and stash them in whichever of the rooms up there is supposed to be mine, and then we will take you to the clinic to get that ankle looked at, okay?"

Ayaka just nodded, dimly noting that, yet again, she was being picked up. Ever since she had first come to Konoha, people here seemed to have taken a liking to doing that for some strange reason. Still, it felt... nice. But that just confused her more, so she stopped thinking about it. It helped, of course, that she suddenly remembered something. "Ah! My lunch. And my key. I dropped them when I saw you coming up the stairs."

Setting Ayaka-san down on a stair where he would not be in danger of hitting her with his bundle as he proceeded upward, Utsuro nodded. "I shall get them for you, then. Try not to move your ankle much, okay?" Grabbing the straps, he hefted the parcel up over his head and past Ayaka-san, making his way up the steps. Granted, he could not recall a previous time he had ever been able to accomplish the former feat, much less the latter, but now was NOT the time for such pondering. Scaling the stairs and setting it down, Utsuro fished through his plethora of pockets until the folded envelope with his key was located. It only took a moment to find the matching door, in fact it took longer to actually squeeze the bundle through the door frame. Pushing his belongings just far enough past to give the door room to open again upon his return, it was shut and locked moments later, and the young boy began scouring the floor for a key and lunch. Thankfully, neither item was particularly difficult to locate, and Utsuro could only hope that her lunch had not been ruined because of him. Picking them up and smiling softly at the charm upon her key, he moved quickly back down the steps. "Here you are, Ayaka-san. I..guess this means your lunch is 'to go' today?"

Ayaka nodded. "Oyaji boxed that up for me and told me to come back later when I'd eaten and gotten things a little more sorted out. Thanks for getting them for me," she said with a smile. Unfortunately, she moved without thinking, and stood up to collect the items from her friend. Or rather, she tried to. But with a startled - and somewhat pained - "Ah!" the offending ankle gave way, and Ayaka found herself pitching forward again, reaching out for the first thing her hands reached that could potentially stop her fall.

She's as bad as you are! I...thought you were taking a nap....shut up.It was strange, the way the world worked sometimes. The moment that Ayaka-san had cried out, even before she actually began to fall, the world seemed to slow down to a crawl. Before he could even really fathom just what he was doing, her lunch and key were tossed down the steps in an arching lob, and Utsuro himself took off down the stairs as Ayaka-san began to pitch forward inch by inch. Eyes flicking upward, he could actually glimpse the bag as it sailed overhead, key glinting as it slowly spun. Sliding to the side, an arm snaked around Ayaka-san's body and lifted her up out of harm's way. Turning on his heel slightly, everything seemed to race back towards its normal speed as the bag landed in his outstretched hand with a 'thunk', the key and charm hitting the top with a slight jingle. "Ah...h-here's your lunch.." He said with a nervous smile.

Ayaka just blinked, astonished, as she tried to figure out what had just happened. First she had gotten up, then she was falling, then Tsutomegi somehow made it from his spot on the steps in the blink of an eye and caught her, and then he reached out and her lunch - with the key on top! - somehow magically appeared in his hand. "Ah, thanks," she said with a shy grin, accepting the bag and tucking her key safely inside. "Y'know, that's the second time today you've caught me. How do you move that fast?"

"I...ah...I am...not really sure, to be perfectly honest.." Utsuro replied with no short supply of embarrassment. He truly had no clue just how he succeeded in doing such things. He never succeeded in anything. And yet, when Ayaka-san was in trouble, he managed somehow. Maybe it was Maneki-sama's doing. Or perhaps a side effect of being friends? Either was just as likely in his mind. "It..does not really matter, though. You are safe, and now I can take you to get help for your ankle. Ah.." He could feel heat rising in his face again as he tried to figure out the safest way to take her to the clinic. Was he coming down with something? It certainly seemed rather similar to a fever.. Maybe it was the stress of the day letting Ichi-sama draw closer to the surface.. " Here...just...h-hold tight." Utsuro told her with what little conviction he could put forth as he swept an arm under her legs and lifted her up.
