Team Eight moved their way along the sparse trees in a slowly disapearing forest. Their feet finding less and less to land onto.
"Uweah...Shikamaru, slow down! My legs aren't as long as yours, I can't jump as far!" A whiny voice hollered.
Shikamaru, snug in his chuunin vest, turned and gave a weary look to his platinum blonde comrade.
"The forest is thinning out, we've got follow it to the end. Unless you'd rather walk through that all the way to the hidden sand"
Ino looked down to see the ground was becoming more and more sandy, overetaking the yellowing grass. Soon, she figured, it would be nothing but desert.
"Oi, cut the chatter back there" Their jounin sensei, Asuma, said quickly. "We're approaching the village. Just a few more kilometres".
"Asuma-sensei! Over there!" Chouji yelled.
Asuma turned his head towards the east. The forest ended and sprawled into a wide river. There were two ships sailing along it.
One was a small cruiser, easily big enough to hold a crew of fifty. It's white sails held the crest of the Sabaku. The symbol soon disapeared in a ploom of smoke.
The ship was on fire.
Just behind it was a larger, black armoured vessel. It bore no sails, instead, it was covered in weaponry. Cannons, launchers and a variety of other armaments. The ship bore a strange emblem that Asuma couldn't recognise.
"That sand ship is under attack...what should we do?" Shikamaru asked quickly.
"There's nothing we can do to help it except alert the Kazekage! We need to move!"
They picked up the pace, racing to the Sand.
*********
"Everyone to their stations! We need to protect the ship!!!" an officer yelled.
Lieutenant Aburenai Biggs readied his kunai. Inside the ship, he knew that their enemies would soon be upon them. A large number of the ablebodied soldiers were gaurding the entrace to the deck, the place that was a likely entry point.
He knew that the situation didn't look good. The Princess would be captured for sure...
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a little girl run down into a tight maintenance corridor. He wondered if she'd be alright.
Maybe I should be more worried about myself... he thought, eyeing the door cautiously.
*********
The woman looked down on the little girl in the darkness. She had an innocent look on her face. A pure child.
"eh, onee-san, we should get going...I hear there's bad guys on the way, ne?" she said cutely, a smile on her face.
The woman managed a smile.
"I can't go with you sweetie...you've got to escape by yourself"
"By myself...you're not coming too, onee-san?" she asked, confused.
"Gomen...I must stay...now go! Get out while you still can...and remember your mission!"
The little girl toddled off.
"Hai~Be careful onee-san, ne" she chirped as she made her way into the darkness.
The woman smiled as she watched her go. A tear rolled down her cheek.
"Rieni...be safe..."
She turned as she saw two men approach her. She put her hands up.
"help me Sarutobi...you're my only hope"

((After much stress and general unwellness, the fic is back on schedule!))
Such a beautiful day...blue sky...white, fluffy clouds...best of all...I couldn't have a care in the world-
"Kei-kun!!!! Haiyaku! Hurry and get your lazy ass up!!!" Ayame shouted.
Keitaro fell disgracefully from his stool, bruising his cheek. Puffs of dust were kicked up on impact as he hit the dry gravel road in front of Ichiraku Ramen.
Ayame stood above him with her arms full of boxes, an irritated look on her face.
"Geez, there's plenty of work to be done around here, but you just slack off!" she said irritably.
"Eyouch...A-Ayame-chan...you're horrible you know...I was having the most wonderful of day dreams..." Keitaro mumbled, wiping dirt off of his Konoha flak jacket.
"Sheesh, day dreaming seems to be all you're good for lately...you've got to be the laziest Jounin in all of the Fire Country! It's been almost a week and a half since you've done any missions!"
Keitaro had difficulty coming up with an answer to this. Not because there wasn't a decent explination, but because his jaw was sore from falling.
Ever since Keitaro had been promoted to the rank of Jounin, it seemed that a dry spell of missions had come up. Hardly any foreign affairs needed the attention of anyone over the rank of Chuunin. Internal affairs were almost non-existent.
"I-It's just slow is all...it has nothing to do with me being lazy...Kakashi hasn't assigned me anything...he probably isn't doing much except reading and relaxing either" He managed.
Kakashi sensei's pupils were all but absent now. Naruto had left to train under Jiraiya, Sakura was recieving tutaledge from Tsunade-sama, and the Uchiha's wherabouts were a mystery to him. After Keitaro's promotion, Kakashi had taken him under his wing as part of his three man cell.
"Well, the least you could do is help your fiance at the ramen stand!"
"H-hai," Keitaro said as he helped her with the boxes. She grinned as he began to pull his weight.
"Ayame...I'm sorry I've been so inatentive lately...I suppose I'm just preoccupied..." Keitaro stammered.
"It's alright, you do more than you give yourself credit for...you're just too big of an idiot to take notice" she said as she kissed his cheek.
"T-thanks Ayame" Keitaro blushed.
"No problem...now go clean out the grease traps on the fryers, please"
"gck...h-hai"
*********
The ship had sunk.
The smaller ship bound for the Hidden Sound was now at the bottom of the lake. Sand nins were searching for survivors at present.
The larger, black sail-less ship seemed to vanish into thin air after it had docked with the smaller, leaving the entire village perplexed and angered.
After providing what little service they could, Konoha's four-man team was sent homeward bound. Asuma got the distinct impression that, allies aside, foreigners weren't welcome at the moment.
"Oi, Asuma...what's the deal? Why did they want us to leave when they clearly need help?!" Shikamaru asked in an irritated voice.
Asuma sighed heavily, trying to find the best words to describe the situation.
"Sometimes...in urgent internal affairs...countries wish to rely solely on their own strength...despite what may be in their best interest. My guess is that the hidden sand wants this matter to remain an internal problem..."
"That sounds kinda dumb, we could have helped. They wouldn't even let us stay to carry out our original mission" Chouji piped up.
"Yeah...that's true...this is going to make for one messed up report to the Hokage, that's for sure-"
"Look over there!" Ino shouted.
The team came to a halt along the branches of trees. Ino pointed down towards the riverbank they were passing alongside.
A small body was washed up along the sands.
Ino raced down to the bank with her team mates close behind. She pulled up the body from out of the water and onto the soft grass nearby.
Kami-sama Asuma thought, she's just a little girl! The girl had long, light blue hair which flowed down past her shoulders. She was dressed in a dirty grey dress which ended just below her feet. Asuma guessed she couldn't be older than six or seven.
"Daijoubu?! Oi, are you alright?!" Ino said as she craddled the child.
The girl's eyes slowly opened, her irises were a vivid red.
"Onee...sama..." the girl murmured, barely above a whisper.
"Asuma, we need to get this girl back to Konoha, she seems very weak" Ino said, distraught.
"Ino, it's still half a days journey to Konoha. The girl wouldn't make it...we'll have to send people back for her"
The girl clutched onto Ino's shirt, her eyes wider.
"Konoha...my mission...in Konoha" she said a little more clearly.
"What was that?" Ino asked.
The little girl's eyes flashed open. Her irises changed to a silvery hue. Ino almost dropped her in surprise.
"Help me Sarutobi, you are my only hope" she said in a loud, deep voice. her speach clear as a bell...and entirely different from her own. The girl twitched slightly, her head spasming, she then spoke the smae words:
"Help me Sarutobi, you are my only hope"
Asuma's eyes grew wide.
"Alright, she's coming with us! Ino, can you carry her?"
Ino nodded.
"Okay, then let's hurry!"
They sped off, a new person along with.
*********
Sunset drew near.
The lavishly decorated room had many tall windows, each showing a blue sky giving way to the dull tone of orange as the sun made it's way closer to th horizon.
A large group of people were seated around a large, round table. Three prefered to stand.
"Our forces have captured the princess. We've destroyed any evidence that their ship had anything to do with the Rebellion" one of the seated men said.
"That is irrelevent! Did you procure the plans?! Were the stolen plans recovered?!" Another retorted quickly.
The first speaker paled.
"T-The plans were not onboard...It's likely that they were destroyed in the fire".
"If the Rebellion were to obtain and decode those plans, they might be able to find a weakness in the weapon! The Leaf's army could crush our organization while it's in its infancy!"
"The Leaf is powerless" one of the standing mens said.
All eyes turned to him and his collegues. They were all dressed in black, some with mechanical devices affixed to their bodies.
"You have no foresight," the seated man said, "You are the last remnants of your dismantled hidden village! If you continue to act so brash, you'll suffer the same fate as your leader-gckkkch"
The seated man grasped his neck, his eyes bulged. One of the black robed figures had an arm extended; his fist slowly tightening.
"Don't underestimate us...we weild a power that is beyond your imagination" he said.
"Vader, release him!" The head of the table sid quickly.
"...as you wish" he opened his fist, the man sitting gasped for air.
"Do not take these shinobi lightly," the had of the table said calmly. "While their village may have been destroyed, with it's dismantling they uncovered a power greater than even the Bijou (tailed demons). They are masters of the force!"

Deep in an underground area, far within the confines of the remains of the Hidden Sound, a small holding cell was kept. Inside sat a lone prisoner; her delicate arms bruised from the shackles that held her in place.
Her dark, red hair was fastened in two elaborate buns on either side of her head which vaguely resembled cinnamon rolls. She wore an elegant white dress; its former beauty ravaged by tears, rips and dirt.
She sat alone in her cell, trying to reflect on all that had happened previous to her capture:
With the downfall of the Otogakure the contenant was at peace. All of the previously waring nations were at a state of mutual tranquility. The senate found matters passing easily.
But...the offlanders...coming out of the blue...now there's talk of the "Empire" expanding towards the Sand. The empire has already gained allies in the Hidden Stone and Hidden Cloud villages...they're taking over the entire contenant...enforcing their totaltarianistic rule as they go...
Now they're targeting the Sunagakure...I hope my message to the Leaf arrives in time...
As if on cue, two people entered the cell. The prisoner imediately shied away from them, moving as far away as she could within her restraints.
"Well, Princess...it appears that your plans haven't been located as of yet" One of them spoke, his breathing heavy and mechanical through a large, black mask.
The princess's eyes widened, she felt both relief; relief that the plans were safe for the time being...but also fear.
She looked upon the intruders. The one that had spoken to her was dressed entirely in black. His clothing seemed hard, like dense plastic or metal. His chest was adorned with circuts and lights, blinking on and off. His face was taken up entirely by a large black mask and helmet. His eyes, black as satcloth, stared coldly at her.
The other, dressed in black as well, wore long billowing robes. While part of it was covered, she could tell that his right side wasn't ordinary flesh. It looked like scales of a fish...that is, if fish scales were ever made out of stone. His smug face obscured by his light blue hair, his teal lips curving in a grin; his neck held in place by a large metal ring.
"Princess...we need those plans. If you do not tell us what you've done with them-" the blue haired one said, but was cut off.
"No...I think the plans are no longer our concern...the princess here is far too clever to give us a truthful answer anyway, aren't you princess?"
She managed a brave sort of grimmace.
"No, instead I believe we should be asking something of greater importance..."
He turned to her.
"Tell us...where is the Rebel base?"

Wow, sorry I left this story hanging for so long. It's been edited numerous times, but finally now I think I can get back on track ^^.
Tsunade looked down upon her new patient. Her eyes flicked with concern.
Asuma and his team waited patiently at her side. They were all in a large medical room of the Konoha hospital. The blue haired girl lay on an examination table, unconcious. Bright sunlight poured through the two large windows.
"Where did you find this girl?" Tsunade asked, not taking her focus off her patient.
"On the banks of the Sunagakure...she might have been a survivor of the sinking there" Asuma replied, his voice filled with doubt.
"I see, as you've told me...The Hidden Sand has grown very withdrawn over the past few months...either way, let's see what seems to be the problem with our friend here" she said with a smile as moved towards the girl.
She pulled back the girl's eyelids, examining her vividly red irises. She checked the girl's pulse and gave her face a once over, making a "hmm" noise as she did.
Tsunade started to unbutton the girl's dress to check her body. After the thrid button her hand recoiled quickly. She gasped.
"Hokage-sama, what is it?" Asuma asked with concern.
Tsunade turned her head, her eyes wide.
"Asuma...y-you...have you seen this?!" she asked slowly, pointing to the girl's chest.
"Seen what, Hokage-sama?"
Tsunade's hands moved in an instant, ripping open the girl's shirt-
-revealing a mass of dark lines, intricately woven across her chest and abdomen, forming a large seal!
"N-Nandaiyo...what the hell?!" Asuma whispered.
"T-This girl isn't human..." Tsunade said, her face softening, "She's a Gigai, an artificial body. I...I haven't seen one since the shinobi wars".
"A Gigai? I don't understand" Shikamaru started.
"Gigai are messangers of war. Their bodies are sealed with chakra, containing a message that only the recipiant can unseal" Tsunade explained.
"But you said they were artificial...she seems like a real girl to me" Ino said quietly.
Tsunade gave a weak smile.
"Gigai are human. More accurately, they were human. Gigai's were created using soldiers who fell in battle...they're reanimated corpses".
Ino looked stunned. The team gasped.
"Capable of minimal body functions, a Gigai's sole purpose is to pursue and find the recipient of its encoded message. Once the message is delivered, the Gigai dies..."
"But this girl spoke to me! I heard her" Ino shouted.
Tsunade shook her head. "That's not possible...A gigai can only speak when it's relaying its message...which, if is for Konoha, should be heard quickly".
Tsunade turned to the girl, rubbed her hands together, and pushed them down on the girl's small chest. "Kai!" she shouted.
*********
Asuma stepped back as he saw the dirl, disrobed, begin to sit up. Her eyes open, she turned to face Tsunade. Her mouth opened, her voice loud and deep, uncharacteristic of such a little girl.
"General Sarutobi, long ago you served with my father in the Shinobi wars. As his only relative, I beg you for assistance. The Continental Empire is moblizing its army against the Sand and the remainder of the hidden villages. The Rebellion off continent has secured secret plans of the Empire's assault patterns and their hiarchey. These plans are sealed into this Gigai. These plans must make their way safely to the Rebellion. This is our most desparete hour..."
The voice continued.
"Help me Sarutobi, you are my only hope".
Then, the girl's eyes flicked, dulled and returned to normal. Her expression changed from one of severity to a more confused, childlike stare.
"Eh? Nani? Who are you guys?" she asked.
"Gck..." Tsunade tensed. She stepped back a few paces.
The girl's still alive?! That's impossible...could the information have been sealed in a living person?! she thought.
*********
Time had passed. The sun was now setting on Konoha.
Tsunade had assembled a group of Jounins in her office. The gigai was being taken care of by one of Asuma's students. She looked gravely upon the people she had brought before her: Kakashi, Asuma, Kurenai.
"I'll make this as brief as possible as there isn't much time" Tsunade started.
"A totaltarian organization calling themselves the "Empire", is moving onto our continent. They've already attacked the Sunagakure and appear to be moving north towards the Iwagakure and eventually towards Konoha.
"Thanks to Asuma, we've recieved word from a group of rebels from the southern continent is moving against the Empire. However, they need a weapon to use against them. We've just been supplied with that weapon.
"I've overlooked the plans that were sealed inside that girl...these are vital to the Rebellion's attack against the Empire. I've also learned that this empire is being controlled by a smaller faction which to this day...I thought had been disbanded and dead"
"What do you mean, Hokage-sama?" Kurenai asked.
"Have you ever heard of the Sith?" Tsunade asked, her eyes closed.
"No, I haven't-"
"The Sith?! Impossible!" Kakashi shouted.
"Kakashi-kun...I'm aware that you know of these people. Please, enlighten your comrades" Tsunade said.
Kakashi hesitated a moment.
"The Sith...were a group of ninjas, not unlike the Sound Nins, who thrived on the destruction of other civilizations. They used a unique type of Ninjutsu that was more powerful than anything around. They were overcome by a similar group of ninja from the southern continent: The Jedi"
Tsunade continued.
"The Jedi shinobi were considered the gaurdians of peace and order on the southern continent. They were the ones who managed to utterly defeat the Sith in war. Thier ties to Konoha were great...The Second was a Jedi".
"The Nidaime?!" Kurenai exclaimed.
"Yes. He used the Jedi's signature weapon. The Second's sword was a blade of pure energy. These are the trademark tool of the Jedi".
Tsunade cleared her throat and continued, more focused than before.
"If the Sith are involved in this Empire, than it's Konoha's duty to oppose them. I need a team to escort the Gigai to the southern continent and rendevouz with the Rebellion"
"I volunteer Team Eight to carry out this mission, Hokage-sama" Asuma said quickly.
"Accepted, however...one team of low rank shinobi will not be enough-"
"I also volunteer myself and any of my remaining Genins" Kurenai said. She knew most of her team were away with their families. All of her pupils were members of respected clans in Konoha...it might be difficult get them together on such short notice.
"Alright. Prepare your teams and the Gigai. I'll have Shizune brief you as you go. You must leave immidiately".
With that, Asuma and Kurenai turned and left the Hokage's office. Only Kakashi remained.
"Hokage-sama, I volunteer my services as well, although my team is somewhat absent..." Kakashi said quickly.
Tsunade smiled.
"Sakura's training must continue, I'm afraid. But I do need your services in other matters.
"The Gigai was sent by the daughter of an ally of the Sandaime. It has come to my attention that she's probably being held by the Sith. She would have vital information about the Rebelion...information the Sith would need.
I'd like you to journey to the southern continent as well, but by a different road. I want to you to meet with the Jedi remnant, then retrieve her...a Princess".
"H-hai, Hokage-sama" Kakashi answered.
"Oh...let Buyo Keitaro accompany you as well...it's time his skills as a Jounin were tested"
"Hai, arigato" Kakashi said, turning on his heels.
With Kakashi gone and her shinobi on their way, Tsunade sighed and sat back in her chair, wondering if everything would be alright...

Ooop, here's a bit more. Run, Luke, run!
Kakashi waited patiently outside of Keitaro's home. He'd told him about the Godaime's mission and the young man seemed eager about it. He had just gone to pack supplies and break the news to his fiance.
However, from the state of ruckus coming from inside the house, Kakashi guessed she wasn't taking it well.
*********
Keitaro had never been extremely agile; his previous teachers loved to point that out whenever possible. However, there were times when he found he could dodge even the most skilled of attacks.
...like the potted plant he narrowly avoided as it whizzed by his face.
"A-Ayame-chan, calm down. I thought you'd be happy" Keitaro coaxed.
"Don't you 'Ayame-chan' me!!!" His fiance shouted as she hurled a thick book at him.
"But weren't you just saying how I hadn't gotten any missions in a while?! This is my big chance!" Keitaro pleaded, not quite understanding why Ayame was in such a foul mood.
"That was before you started working for Ichiraku again! We've hit a busy pocket! And right when we need you the most, you go off to rescue some foriegn bimbo?! AUUUGH!" She searched frantically for more things to throw.
"S-She's not a bimbo, she's a princess-"
Keitaro wasn't the sharpest kunai in the pouch either, his teachers would lament.
Keitaro got a coffeetable right in the face.
"As if that makes it better?! Get out!!!!" Ayame screamed.
Keitaro quickly made his way out of the house, massaging his now bruised face as he went. Just when i think I've got her all figured out... Keitaro thought.
"Oh? Problem with the missus?" Kakashi asked playfully.
"Urusei...let's just go...I honestly don't understand why she's so upset..."
"Asuma's team set out about an hour before us. We'll have to move quickly if we want to make it on time"
"Yeah...l-let's get out of here..." Keitaro said, his face blue and puffy.
