What can one say about a ported game we loved when it first came out?
I bought the bullet and rented "Naruto: Clash of Ninja" for the Gamecube. It's the english port of Naruto Ninja Taisen 1.
Since the game is an english dubbed port, it suffers from all of the problems of the english dub. The Japanese catchprases we love to hear again and again are irritatingly repetitive in this version. If you can't stand copious use of "I'm gonna be Hokage! Believe it!", this game isn't for you.
Okay, what about the actual gameplay?
Well, it hasn't changed from the original...so it's still a decent fighter. You get an assortment of moves from the show, but only a smattering of the first characters. Good for the youngin's...but diehard fans will want to import the 4th of the series...not being able to play as Orochimaru, Tsunade, Itachi, or the Yondaime is kinda disapointing.
As for extras and things, the story mode is bland and boring; the stopry consisting of cutouts of the characters accompanied by a voiceover and text. You'd have thought with the disk space, they could have at least included a bit of the animation from the show.
Which brings me to the little things.
The ending shows footage from the first ending sequence from the series (The one with 'Wind'). However, instead of having the song, they use a crappy keyboard knockoff...for shame...
All in all, not a bad game. A rental at best.
Let's pray the PS2 "Narutamette Hero" comes with an alternate Japanese audio log.
