< Disclaimer> <I bring this up as a semi-serious discussion, not some corny gag or joke. I ask this of myself and everyone else, to please try to behave like the mature adults we all want to grow up to be> Yaoi and Yuri. Now becomming a more common topic in manga and anime being released stateside (as well as in Canada and New Zealand ^^). My question is this: What are your thoughts on Shounen/Shoujo Ai? Are there any particular stories showcasing this that you enjoy? If so, please mention them, this is an open minded thread. My ex-girlfriend was pretty into yaoi. Not the extremely heavy stuff, but the cute, bubbley kind you'd find in a lot of shoujo manga. At first I was hesitent about reading about male protagonists who were homosexual, but after a while, found a lot that was really good. She changed my views on the subject completely. In terms of a yaoi relationship, Gravitation aside, my favourite would have to be Shinji and Kaworu from NGE. Alright, alright, so their relationship wasn't exactly homosexual in nature...but there was a very strong loving bond between the two, making it one of the sweetest and adorable little moments in anime history. *squeeee, Kaworu!* And now for the other side of the wheel, Kisaragi Honey and Aki Natsuko from Re: Cutey Honey. Natsuko not pictured...boo. This shoujo ai relationship is nothing but pure eye and soul candy. It's racy enough to raise eyebrows yet sweet enough to be endearing. If you haven't seen this phenominal OVA, go download it from bittorrent before it gets licenced. <Viewer decression advised, contains nudity and other stuff mommy wouldn't want you watching>

I've been a shounen ai fan for a while, although I don't feel like it works for certain shows (NARUTO... -_-). Gravitation is probably my favorite... really clenched my shounen ai fandom.
Other than that... hmm. I don't really have time to do this now. ^_^; I'll continue the post tomorrow tomorrow! *goes to sleep*

Never really liked either of the Genres. but if i must... The only Yuri/Yaoi relation ship i like really isnt a relationship, just humor relief. In bleach there is a girl that hits on Inoue every time you ever see her in the series. then tatsuya continuously beats her upside the head. just funny stuff

I don't really like shounen ai or shoujo ai either, which pretty much says how I feel on Yaoi and Yuri. The one exception to this would be the Utena Movie because the rest of it is good, and because the Yuri theme is pretty toned down. If it goes beyond kissing and crosses the border into hentai, I won't watch it. Period. Not that I watch hentai anyway, of course.

*Gravi glomps Kirigakure*
I got into Gravi thnking it was about this band (Bad Luck) who wanted to become J-pop/rock stars, I read the manga first so I assumed that they were the Bishie Visual Kei rockers out there.
*Gravi glomps Ga-kuto!~*
Reading my first yaoi scene was, a surprise, to say the least. But I didn't read it for that, but for some odd reason, Gravi's main character turned out to be the first main character I ever associated myself with... Good gosh, Naruto, I'll never see myself as him, HyuugaNeji? maybe, Sasuke? less probable. Zabuza? *SMACKS HAND ON T3H TABLE* of course, I'm Zabuza wannabe!
Somone saw me buying Gravi at a con, and told me to get FAKE... I asked them (ignorantly) if it was about J rock, she said "two cops..." and I ran away before I heard more. Its okay, i think its all about the story, I love Gravi.... I don't read any Yaoi/Yuri mangas, although I did see Cutie Honey after seeing Kumi Koda's MV for the Opp theme... I can't say I look for it, but yeah, its alrite as long as the story is done well. Gravi anime is also good, I've seen teh series and also the OAV, I think of all three, the manga version = t3h win..

I remember watching the Honey/Natsuko kiss scene for the first time at your place Bishiesoundguy. I'm not going to say that it was that scene that really got me into Cutey Honey...but I'm sure it didn't hurt.
Now I've got all three OVAs...and they're awesome!
Lord Serlis! I know that character! Those scenes are some of my favourites in Bleach. Not only because I'm a big Inoue fan, but becasue they're always so hilarious ;D!

i really havn't seen any Shounen/Shoujo Ai cept for a kiss in one episode of gravitation my friend showed me...thats about it...i don't see why something like that would effect a story so much besides making some weird situations for the the charicters depending on what kind of society the story takes place in. after all a kiss is a kiss. it doesnt matter if the nudity is different sexs or same cause i dont see either...im a good little boy...so...i ges thats my opinion on it...um..ya

Nayo-chan and the adventures of squeaky cleaness. ;D
I'm not saying I'm some huge hentai freak. I will admit to have read a few manga that some might view as...'objectional', but that's about it.
Perhaps the terms Shounen/Shoujo Ai are more appropriate than Yaoi/Yuri...for the sake of conversation.

Yaoi/Yuri well, one kor friend of mine who was one of main main anime fixes, she gave me some dvds of loads of anime with mangas to fill 'er up. Some of those mangas were like H mangas, so i was previewing them by page one to see if there were any actual story mangas... one of the first ones i read that clued me in was this very very very H yaoi one, and that disturbed me... Gravi doesn't have that, thats why its okay, even though as one of my friends put it "Gravi is like the pronoun for Yaoi mangas".
But what is going too far? Incestual relationships, don't even start by going "Yaoi/Yuri Incest?", cuz i refer to any Incestual relationship, like in Angel Sanctuary... that ruined it, it was all good untill they justified his 'incestuas love affair'. Shonen/shoujo ai is alrite as long as it doesn't go too far, like we see ppl kiss in a pg-13 movie, its okay if we see ppl kiss in an anime. Obviously, Japan's perverts' and school girls' fandom accounts for lack of a strong/holding controversial effect like you'd see here in a backward secular country.

Well what about the fringe levels of ambiguity in a lot of anime regarding shoujo and shounen ai?
Take one of my favourite series for example: Read or Die (The OAV and the TV)
Everyone just seems to have a thing for Yomiko Readman...
Nenene seems to have an interesting love for her...as does Yomiko with Nancy (and subsequently Nancy's sister).
Another example could be Vivian's quasi love for Silk in Ultimate Girls.
These are all possible relationships that we'll never see solidifed...er...well, at least in R.O.D.'s case...^^;; things might turn out differently in Ultimate Girls.

i dont think yomiko's relationship with nancy was one of love...same with nenene's and yomiko's its different from love....a very deep friendship i think...something special....
