He'd overheard conversations about showing respect, about acting properly. Maz panicked slightly; he wasn't ready -- he still looked like he was ready for desert combat. The desert seemed so endless before, and now being so close had caught him completely by surprise. Almost as quickly as he'd left his shadow form he was back in it, zipping along the ground towards the wagon where his belongings were. Unfortunately, it hadn't gotten any cooler. Not that he expected it to, but still. One of the few cool places was actually in the wagon where his belongings were, but once he was dressed and ready, he wouldn't be able to enjoy the comfort of cold any longer (or at least, as close as one can get to cold in the desert). Discarding his desert clothing for something a little more Adarakis -- black, black and more black -- he felt a little more comfortable, and a lot hotter. Yet, for any formal introductions, ceremonies and other such gatherings, it only felt right to be in family attire, a true representative of the Adarakis Clan. It wasn't time to go completely all-out yet, no long-sleeves for the moment: the sun had him beaten today. He'd decided on his t-shirt for the time being; hopefully, combined with his cape, it should be enough to keep him hot, as opposed to the boiling he'd expected to face. Emerging from the caravan in his normal attire, he was almost ready. Almost. He called out, "Does anyone have a mirror I can borrow?" His clothes looked spot on. His forehead protector, all other accessories were in place. And now, there was only one thing left to make sure of that was also in place. His hair.

Kohana continued to mosey around the caravan, keeping an eye out for her teammates. She hoped she would find them soon.
Does anyone have a mirror I can borrow? she heard someone call out. Looking around, she spotted who it was.
"MAZ!" she squealed, running to join him. "Where have you been? I've been looking for you!"

Kohana laughed. "It's going pretty good, I guess, other than it being so hot." Pausing, she examined his hair. Then, cocking her head to one side, she answered. "Other than being a tad discheveled, it looks fine. Just run your fingers through it a couple of times and you'll be set."
Looking around then back at her teammate, she sighed. "Have you seen Iro at all? I can't seem to find him."

She sighed. "Well, hopefully we'll find him soon."
Shaking it iff, she grinned at Maz and his silly pose. She was so excited! They were finally at the Sand Village!

A great cheer rose up from the quickly approaching Hidden Village of Sand. The great wooden gates began to move, opening wide for the guests. Inside the lead wagon, Kaori fidgeted restlessly. While the other Konoha shinobi were wishing desperately for rest in the wagons, she couldn't wait to get out of hers. I had nothing to do with... with him. Of course not. "Nervous, are we?" asked a familiar voice. Akina's sudden presence in the wagon startled Kaori. The redhead just laughed. "I may be your top student," she admonished, "but the Hokage should have detected me. Oh, I was only kidding, you know that," she added in reply to the look Kaori gave her. "So, are you excited to see him?" she asked. Kaori just arched an eyebrow at her. "Well, it's been a few years, and you two, along with ---" here she cut off, bowing in apology. "I'm sorry. My words ran away with me."Kaori just nodded. "Of course..." was her empty reply. Well, there was something good to think about. At least mention of Kodomo took Kaori's nerves off the visit to the Sand. The wagon fell silent as the caravan marched into the gates of the Hidden Sand. * * * * * Hitomebore Kiyoshi stood at the heart of the entrance to Hidden Sand. In full Kazekage garb, all that was visible of him were his glittering blue eyes and a few strands of light blonde hair that had yet again escaped being pulled back into a ponytail. Spreading out to either side of him were the Sand's top-ranked Shinobi, all in formal uniform and all standing rigidly at attention. What seemed like the rest of the village's populace was sprawled wherever they could find a spot - on rooftops, in the streets, even hanging out of windows or up in trees. Everyone wanted to watch the arrival of the caravan. Behind the veil that hid the bottom portion of his face, Kiyoshi smiled. It had been years since he had last seen Tensei Kaori, and this would be the first time they met as Kage. He couldn't help but wonder what they would have thought, all those years ago, had someone told them about this day. But that was all in the past. And rolling through the gates at this very moment was the future. The entire village was cheering - that is, of course, except for himself and his line of shinobi. He hoped no one fell out of their precarious vantage points. Soon the caravan came to a halt. It was time.

Yanagawa Hoshiko walked along with the caravan through the desert - if walking it could be called, for she had a bounce in her step that, combined with the hands tapping out a beat on her legs, made it look like she was dancing along with the wagons. As she ambled through the caravan in the oppressing heat, a song ran through her head and escaped under her breath:
"If maybe I'd been able to become a comet, I would run flying through the sky.... No matter what kind of tomorrow comes, this thought will be strong..."
As she walk-skip-danced her way amongst the chaotic mass of Shinobi, she tried to spot any of her relatives in the crowd. It was to no avail, though... where were they? They were already pulling up to the Sand Village, and....
"...Wow...."
She stopped dead in her tracks - and was abruptly run into from behind by a Genin who wasn't paying attention to where he was going - and simply stared. The Hidden Village of Sand! They were here at last!
I suppose my cousins will have to wait... she thought sadly as she found a spot in the ranks and marched along, the song continuing to play through the back of her mind. Soon they were inside the gates, greeted by the Kazekage, a formal escort of elite Sand Shinobi, and what seemed like the entire populace of the Sand Village to boot.
Hoshiko smiled at the welcoming cheers as the caravan stopped. This was going to be the best mission ever!

As the crowd cheered, Maz shot off a salute to them, to say "Thanks, everyone." Yeah. Thanks for saving our village, he nodded. And yet, in that moment of respect and gratitude for those that'd helped out, he remembered what he'd lost that night. And though he was alive and the village was safe... she was gone. So much had happened since then. A new team, a new mission... a new goal in life... No, it wasn't a new goal in life. It was his goal in life. Yeah. I remember now. I did it for me... didn't I?He didn't know why, but he hoped to see her face somewhere in the crowd. He hoped to see her anywhere. He'd hoped that what happened that night didn't take place at all. But it did. Dayna was gone, now. The same as his family. To lose everything you love... those awful feelings began to sink in once again... He shook his head and snapped out of it as the caravan came to a halt. Turning to Kohana, he spoke. "Let's stick together, for now."

"There it is! There it is! Izumi, we're here!"
Shinako nearly jumped for joy. Only the fact that there was a group of younger shinobi nearby - most likely watching their every move in the hopes of mimicking them and thus avoid another tongue-lashing - kept her from actually leaping into the air. Tatsuya laughed.
"Shinako-chan, don't wear yourself out so soon!" he told her, calming the bounce in her step with a firm hand on her shoulder.
"He's right," put in Izumi as they approached the massive gates. "Look."
"Whoaaa!" Shinako gasped, wide-eyed, as they passed through the huge structure and a wave of applause and cheers cascaded over them. "They're as excited as we are!" Izumi nodded calmly, looking first at the massive crowd and then straight ahead to a man clad in blue robes - the Kazekage. So this was the man responsible for their victory in the war - for saving their village. Izumi was glad she had the opportunity to come on this mission and personally thank the Sand for what they had done.
Tatsuya wasn't paying attention at all anymore. He was too busy waving at the crowd, flashing winning smiles and V-signs with every step.
Izumi couldn't help but wonder if she should throw some glitter on him for good measure.
Soon the caravan came to a stop inside the village. What would happen next was anyone's guess.

Kohana let out a quiet squeal as they approached the massive gates of the Sand Village. They had finally arrived! Her ears perked at the sound of the citizens of Hidden Sand cheering, shouting, applauding, welcoming them as they entered in through the gates.
Wow! she thought, gazing around, taking in the moment. This is absolutely amazing! I'm actually here...In the Sand Village... The village that saved us... She was beaming. Her eyes widened, twinkling and full of excitement, a big, bright smile spreading across her sun-kissed face. She skipped acouple of times, before waving at the crowd gathered around them.
The caravan finally came to a halt inside the gates, and she was brought back by the voice of her teammate. Let's stick together, for now. Smiling, she nodded. They would find Iro later, after everything calmed down.
*~*~*~*
Now that they had arrived at the village gates, Aijou met up with Ryuji and Haruki and they headed towards the lead wagon. They reached the front just as the caravan came to a halt. Taking their positions around the Hokage's wagon, they stood rigid at attention.
*~*~*~*
Miyuki sighed as a slight smile graced her lips. It had been nearly a decade since she had been to Hidden Sand. Ten years... That seemed so long ago... Her mind began to wonder...Taking in a nice, deep breath, Miyuki shook the reverie away. This was no time for reminiscing!
Quickening her pace, she joined a small group of familiar Jounin, and continued on until they reached the gates. The cheers and applause from the village's citizens made Miyuki smile and she looked around and nodded at them. It was because of them the Leaf survived, and victory was won.
"Thank you," she whispered, closing her eyes for a moment before opening them again to gaze forward. The Kazekage stood before them, clothed in the traditional robes, guarded by some of the village's most elite shinobi. She stood, tall and straight, her head held high, waiting for what was going to happen next.
What an honor... she thought. This is certainly going to be an experience I will never forget.

Kyoukou Arisa was very upset. She couldn't see the arrival of the Hidden Leaf's Caravan! Even though Sensei had been nice enough to cancel classes at the Academy for the day, too! She may have been tall for her age, but that still put her below the shoulders of most of the Sand's residence. Finally she had enough, and motioning for her friend Yoko to follow, she grabbed a reluctant Aiko by the arm and began to elbow her way to the front.
"Excuse me! Move aside! Academy Students, coming through! We won't block your view, so don't block ours! You wouldn't want children to miss out on this, would you? Come on, let us by!"
Eventually they reached the front, and Arisa sighed with disappointment. They were already inside the gates!
"Cheer up, Arisa-chan!" encouraged the soft, gentle voice of Enkai Yoko. "We still get to see everyone here, and we'll get to watch Kazekage-sama welcome them!"
"Well, that's true..." murmured Arisa.
Aiko just stood there, glaring at the oncoming caravans. "I don't want to be here," she whispered angrily. "I bet Dad or Nii-chan wouldn't want them here either. It's because of them that..." She trailed off as Arisa and Yoko each wrapped a comforting arm around their friend. It was because of her that the three of them had become so close, and as much as it grieved them that Aiko had lost her Father and Brother in this war, it grieved them even more that she was so angry towards the Leaf about it. It was especially troubling to Arisa, who knew that her Uncle wouldn't endanger the Sand's shinobi for nothing. After all, the Leaf had saved the Sand in the past, as well.
Speaking of her Uncle, she felt a surge of pride as she saw him. Clad in the traditional robes of the Kazekage, he stood at regal attention as he watched the Caravan come to a stop. As she watched him, she couldn't help but wonder what was going through his mind, and what was going to happen next.

The other, Homura Nadameru… well, she was the daughter of his close friend from the Archives, Homura Taro-kun. Some of the scars came from battle, however, most of them had been self-inflicted in artful patterns as a way to enhance his blood-control abilities. Standing up in the back of the wagon, he wondered to himself again if Masato-kun, his young (no.. not so young anymore, at 17, was he?) former protégée was somewhere in the caravan. He decided to go in search of him, realizing that no specific instructions had been given as to his position within the caravan upon arrival. “Sato-chan, Homura-chan, I’m going to go try to find Masato-kun. Would you like to accompany me?” He asked, sweeping his arm gallantly towards the open door of the wagon

Nadameru had ducked inside the wagon momentarily to escape the crowd and straighten herself out a bit. Walking through a windy desert did very little for one's appearance, especially in the hair area. She made herself as presentable as possible and sat down for a moment to give her feet a rest.
There were two others in the wagon with her. One was a girl, whom she didn't know. The other was Yoshikuni Shou, a friend of her father's. They two had often worked together, since her father usually ended up helping out in the Konoha archives. She remembered being terrified of him at first because of his apperance, but his caring nature and kind heart eventually won her over. It was now hard for her to believe that she had ever been afraid of him at all.
After a few moments, Shou stood up, donning his coverings.
"Sato-chan, Homura-chan, I’m going to go try to find Masato-kun. Would you like to accompany me?”
Nodding, Nada got to her feet. "Sounds good to me," she replied. "I need to find my team, anyway." If she remembered correctly, one of Maz's friends was a member of Masato's team. Perhaps she would find him hanging around there.

When the two ANBU squads fell in at attention outside the wagon, Akina knew it was time. Wiping one last bit of perspiration from her face and putting on her most dignified manner, she opened the door of the caravan. Instantly, the two kunoichi felt the waves of cheers rush into the small vehicle. Kaori could see some shinobi in the crowd, pointing and shouting that they were the first to see the Hokage. The woman couldn't help but smile as she watched Akina. The small shinobi stepped out of the wagon first, and stood waiting at rigid attention at the end of the ANBU ranks. Now was Kaori's turn. Pulling the red and white hat low on her head to shade her face, she ducked out of the wagon. The closest ANBU helped her down and soon she was making her way to the very front of the caravan. Akina was at her side immediately, and the ANBU squads formed ranks to their sides. Kaori couldn't help but smile at Kiyoshi's welcoming grin. Some things would change beyond all belief, yet some never did. * * * * * Kiyoshi burst out into a huge grin the second he saw the figure clad in red and white step out of the lead wagon. That regal bearing, the graceful movement, the only thing that had changed was the passage of time. It truly was good to see her again. Grinning even more happily, he raised his hand for silence. After a moment, it fell. "Friends, family, and comrades," he called out to the crowds. "With this visit, we honor the most glorious of occasions - the triumph of allies over the cruel enemies of war and violence. This momentuous occasion is a time of true celebration - of friendship, of family, and of dreams that still live on. From the family closest to my heart, to the family from a distant land: Welcome to the Hidden Village of the Sand!" The applause that arose from both groups was thunderous. Kiyoshi caught sight of his friend's smiling face and grinned again. This would be a memorable visit indeed.
