"That is very kind of him..I will be sure to thank him. And...ah..she, actually. Ayaka-san and I are in the same tent, it is good to have a friend that close. She is doing well, I think. She does not mention it often, but she is concerned with finding a means to support herself once the refugee tents come down. "I am certain she will find something, though. Ayaka-san is a good person." Utsuro stated matter-of-fact-ly, nodding softly.

"Very good, very good," Kaori said with a nod. "I'm glad to hear you're making friends and doing well for yourself, Tsutomegi-kun. "Now then. Before anything else is said or done, you wished to make a request of me, yes?" She knew very well he wished to make a permanent home here in Konoha and enter the Academy, but it was best to give him the chance to speak openly first. "You made it this far, so whatever you wished to say, now is the time."

Drawing in a deep breath, he nodded. Ganbatte!"Hokage-dono, as already established, all I wish is to become a resident of Konoha and enter the Academy. I require a place for dedicated training so I might better control my spirit, so I may become a ninja worthy of my Clan's name." He paused a moment, eyes deep in thought. "I brought with me every last bit of potentially worthwhile information from my home, intelligence we had gathered on other villages throughout the years. If it helps my case, it is Konoha's to use. I did not commit myself to this journey lightly."

Information. From Tengakure. Aside from the nagging suspicion that she couldn't let this boy slip away, a recent discovery had brought up some rather pressing concerns that information from a place like Tengakure might be able to address. There was, of course, the fact that the young man in front of her needed a home, but there were bigger forces at work right now, and she had to be cautious. "Everyone seeking admittance into Konoha as residents must undergo the same procedure, including a health examination and a few basic immunizations. They must also speak with a representative I will send, to ensure the enemy isn't trying to send spies into our midst. I will also need to see that information you promised as soon as possible; it will be of great assistance in some matters that have come to my attention. "That said, under these conditions, then I am quite pleased to offer you a permanent home here in Konoha."

At first, his eyes widened, the faintest glimmer of hope shone in the long-dull orbs. Then, his smile followed suite. The young man bowed excitedly. Excitedly. "Th-thank you! Thank you very much, Hokage-dono!" Good job."Um...I was wondering if you could help me...I have...unfortunately run into a few....snags...with the paperwork you sent me.." He stated, lifting the envelope slightly.

It was impossible to restrain a smile entirely, watching the way Tsutomegi-kun's face changed, but then, this was not the time to be entirely deadpan. And so Kaori lowered her mask just a little, allowing a warm smile to slip through. But... snags? The paperwork was detailed, but relatively straightforward. "I don't know if I have the time to go over the entire thing with you," she offered, "but why don't you show me what your problems are? I'll see what I can do to help."

"Ah...well...it only a few minor things..for most people, anyway..." Pulling the papers from the envelope, he selected the two problematic pieces and set them down. "I..cannot recall very much specific information about my family..and.." The young man's face became an odd mixture of embarrassment and a twinge of melancholy. "I cannot remember my birth date, either."

"Mm. I can see how that would be a problem, yes," Kaori agreed, looking at what Tsutomegi-kun had written down thus far. "Fortunately, I think I may have a solution for you. "You said you brought every bit of information you could from Tengakure, yes? Are there, to your knowledge, any sort of official or clan records in what you salvaged? The information you need is likely recorded somewhere in your village's archives."

Why didn't YOU think of that?Utsuro blinked a bit. "I...had not thought of that. It is...entirely possible..I salvaged everything I could. I shall have to search for that as well while I am gathering the more important items for you..Thank you again." Sliding the papers back into order and then back into the envelope, a thought struck him. "Ah...the information I mentioned...I should bring that directly to you, correct? It is not that I do not trust your staff, but you expressed the desire to see it as soon as possible and... "I could see it getting lost downstairs very easily in the current chaos."

"That is correct, yes," Kaori affirmed, "though you may also give it to Akina if I'm not here. And you needn't worry about sorting it for me; I would like to see it all. "And speaking of information," she continued, her voice softening to a significantly gentler tone. "I know it must be difficult for you to speak of, but Uchiha-kun informed me of the tragedy that befell Tengakure. If you can tell me what you remember of what happened, it would greatly help me in discovering what occurred there."

"Ah. Tokoharu-sama, of course." Utsuro nodded before taking on a slightly more saddened expression as the topic shifted. "You would think...seven years..would be long enough to get over something...but it still feels fresh in my mind.." Shaking his head, he continued. "I...do not know anything of what happened, unfortunately. Only the aftermath...you see...I was trying to fish...do something helpful for my family instead of being in the way. But spring had just thawed the ice up on the peaks...the river was fast.." A shiver ran down his spine and his eyes became distant. Words continued to flow from his mouth, but his thoughts floated somewhere else. The line drew taut as a fish was hooked. Utsuro grinned, working the reel as fast as his small arms could, one foot planted against a rock for leverage. "Hehe! Gotcha!"
The fish flailed in the air, sending water this way and that as he reached out to grab the line, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. But the rock was slick. Utsuro pitched forward as his leg came out from under him, sending the shocked boy headfirst into the cold, rushing waters. The pole and fish he had so wanted to show his father were lost, and he fought to get his head back above the surface..but the water was so cold..and then there was darkness.
The sand beneath him was rough and riddled with rocks and pebbles. He was bruised and freezing, but he was alive...somehow. Dark clouds hung over the peaks, Mother and father would no doubt be worried sick about him. Staggering to his feet, he frantically began to search. He had only been down to the shore a few times, to start learning the way, but the entrance had to be well hidden to ward off invaders.
But he had never made the climb alone...without help.."By the time I returned to Tengakure, the rain had snuffed the fires out, and...nobody...." Utsuro paused to scrub at his eyes with a sleeve. It was unseemly to cry in front of a figure of authority. "Nobody was spared. Man..woman....young...old..everyone was dead....There were signs of a struggle...but nothing much. We had never been attacked before...they...caught everyone by surprise....Once....everyone was buried...I started searching. I was so....so angry... "I wanted to find who was responsible...a scrap of cloth. A weapon. Hair. Anything to go off of. But there was nothing..no clues whatsoever." Swallowing hard did nothing to disperse the lump in his throat. "All I know...is they were strong. Very strong, to have done the damage they did. So I knew..I had to become stronger. And I gathered what I could..and I left."

"I see..." Kaori mused softly, gently. So. This report was just like the others: even with witnesses, no one in any of those other incidents had been able to say exactly what had happened, only give accounts of the damage left behind or what others involved had been doing at the time. There were a few other oddities scattered here and there throughout some of the stories, but overall, Kaori had inherited a confusing jumble of unsolvable riddles. "I am truly sorry for your loss, Tsutomegi-kun," she said solemnly to the boy across from her, offering one of the silk handkerchiefs she kept tucked away for various uses. There was no doubt in her voice or expression that she meant what she was saying; after all, she had almost lived something similar. "Know, however, that they will not be forgotten. I am going to do everything in my power to find out what happened and who is responsible."

He nodded, accepting the handkerchief, marveling at the quality for a moment before gingerly....bringing it to his face. For closer inspection. Yes. "Thank you, Hokage-dono. It means a great deal to me. I only hope that which I possess will be of some use."

Anything will be better than the leads I have now, Kaori sighed mentally. "I'm sure every little bit will help," she assured Tsutomegi-kun out loud. "See what you can find about the information you need, and then bring me what you've salvaged. All of it, mind; something you deem unimportant might be the one piece I need most. And I suggest you hurry; we both have a lot of work to do."

Everything? Hoo boy...that was...Well, it was what she wanted. Clearly the Hokage knew what she was doing. It was not his place to judge her decisions. "Yes, Hokage-dono. Thank you again for your time. By your leave, then, I will go get right to work."
