...our favorite food?
...what was the mean...ing...
...huh?
Maz tried to look uninterested... but the lure of food provoked curiosity.
Maybe he was more like his father than he had thought.

My favorite food? Iro thought to himself questioningly.
He was also surprised to see that this question actually sparked some interest from Maz. I don't think I'll ever understand him.
"Well, I guess I'd have to say my favorite dish would be Shrimp Tempura"

"What's you're favorite food?"
Kohana thought for a moment. Mmm... she grinned dreamily, nearly drooling at the thought of food. She heard her stomach growl. She hadn't had any breakfast this morning because of the big hurry to meet the team...And now she was paying for it.
She licked her lips, and clasped her hands over her stomach in an attempt to cover up the loud rumbling...Then answered the question. "Shrimp and chicken tempura and rice with extra, extra soy sauce..."

After everyone else had answered, Maz thought it best to add his input.
But it was so uncanny that they all had the same meal as their favourite.
"Yeah... I'm a tempura fan too."
* * * * * * *
Maybe there was hope for this team, after all.

"Shrimp and chicken tempura and rice with extra, extra soy sauce" Kohana answered trying to stifle a large grumble from her stomach.
Hmmmm, interesting Iro thought to himself.
"Yeah... I'm a tempura fan too" Maz said with his usual calm.
He's got good taste as well Iro thought after hearing this. Maybe theres still a chance for this team after all.

Nada was extremely amused to find they all liked the same thing. Well, that made things simple, in the least. All of that out of the way, it was time to reveal the master plan.
"Well, good to see we all agree on something," she commented with a wry grin. "Here's what we're going to do... we're going to have a picnic!" She smiled broadly, half because she was remembering her own reaction when Kaori had posed this situation to she and her teammates when they were genin.
"AND," she continued quickly, seeing that they were about to interrupt, possibly with protests, "Not only that, but we're all going to make the food for it together." She held up a hand. "I don't care if you can't cook, I don't want to hear it. This is called a group activity. Got it?"

We have to MAKE our own food? Iro had never been good at cooking, the last he had attempted to cook unsupervised, he had ended up having to repaint the entire kitchen.
"Well this could become interesting" Iro said to himself with a chuckle. "So when do we start Nadameru-sensei?"

Kohana's eyes widened at what sensei had said...
Make...our own food? She was nervous...The only thing she ever "cooked" was a giant bowl of instant ramen. She was never allowed to try and fry anything, for her parents feared she would burn down the house. But this was the perfect opportunity to do what her parents would never let her do...
"Well, I'm up for the challenge!" she said cheerfully. "Sounds like fun!"

...oh dear.
...we're cooking.
Maz had just spent the last two weeks training with his father, and they had to cook their meals. The Adarakis Clan may have been famed for consuming meals, but they were not by any chance famed for creating meals.
There was this one incident, where Maz had tried to make something different for dinner while they were training. They were low on any decent supplies, so he used fish, honey, onions and miso soup....
Not only that, but he didn't cook it for long enough. Oh dear.
He tried to hide it, and didn't say a word. He was not good at cooking. The only thing that saved him was the suggestion of it being a group activity. Iro piped up with a comment and a chuckle. Maybe he was good at cooking...
...Maz hoped he was good at cooking. In fact, he hoped that somebody in the group was good at cooking.

The responses given by the three weren't too reassuring. Nada was silently grateful she was an excellent cook. Then again, it would not have been very smart to choose this activity if she wasn't.
"So when do we start, Nadameru-sensei?" Iro asked.
Nada turned and motioned for them to follow. "Now! I'm almost positive we have all the stuff for tempura at my house. Maybe I can find something else I can make to go with it, too." She was beginning to feel more confident about the situation. The three genin seemed to get along just fine when they had something to focus on.
That would certainly help matters.

Her house?
You mean, she was inviting us over to HER house... a group of Genin who'd just met, and of which it seemed weren't that great in the kitchen?
This was a disaster waiting to happen. And hopefully it wouldn't.
Maz wanted to admit him and cooking didn't mix... but he didn't want to. He was a bit shy, a bit nervous.
Mind you, Nadameru had fire skills, he'd remembered. As long as she was around, things would be okay. Besides, she must trust us enough not to burn her house down. And the thought of a bowl of tempura seemed rather appealing to Maz. From the back, he said "Sounds delicious."... attempting to compliment her.
Wonderful. He was placed in a team he was still slightly uncomfortable with (an unease that began to calm down, but still lingered), and now he was about to do one of the activities he was no good at. What else could happen today?

"Ooooh! This will be so much fun, Nada-sensei! I can't wait!" Kohana smiled brightly.
She glanced over at Iro and Maz. Iro seemed more thrilled than Maz, of course, since Maz never seemed happy to be on the team in the first place.
This would definitely be a good group bonding activity. And maybe Maz would loosen up a bit and be more comfortable with the team. But judging from his attitude at the moment, bonding doesn't seem like it would be very easy.

"Sounds delicious," Maz said from the back. Nada took it at face value as a compliment and thanked him. He was trying, she would give him that. He still didn't seem too particularly thrilled, though. Oh, well.
"Ooooh! This will be so much fun, Nada-sensei! I can't wait!" Kohana was saying.
"I hope it will be fun," Nada admitted. She really did want the team to have fun together, but she wasn't sure she should hope for that much at the moment. She was more concerned with just keeping them all civil. If they had fun, well... she would definitely be overjoyed.

As the group continued walking, Iro began to get more and more excited. He also began to get more and more nervous. Man, I hope I don't screw up! Iro thought, they all probobly know how to cook, and I'll just make a fool of myself. Oh well, might as well see if I can at least get a laugh or two out of them when I do.
"How far are we from your house Nadameru-sensei?"

"Not far," Nada said in response to Iro's question. It was only a few more minutes before the Homura residence came into sight of the small group. Nada led the three inside.
"Tadaima!" she shouted, unsure if her father was home. Taro responded from the study with an "O kaeri." She motioned for Maz, Iro, and Kohana to follow her to the kitchen.
