Akina said little after Maz's attempt at reconciliation. I suppose he deserved it, though.
Kaori beckoned Maz over for a quick word with him.
"Listen, she doesn't hate you or anything. But imagine being stereotyped as something you're not, something less than what you are, just because of the way you look. She's had to deal with that her whole life, and it only gets worse as she gets older. I'm sure you can understand that, yes?"
"Y...yeah... I guess...." he replied nervously.
"Also, there's one other thing you need to know... she's not only my ... assistant. Remember that, and treat her with the same respect you would give me."
Mazrakiel nodded. "As you wish, Hokage-sama."
* * * * * * *
"Come on, I'll show you everything you need to know," said Akina.
"As you wish." Maz bowed to Hokage before walking over to the door, where the Jounin Akina waited to lead him and show him around.
"Lead the way, Akina-sama."

The grand tour wasn't all that grand. In fact, it was downright boring. While the things the Ninja Administration building contained were fascinating, the fact was, there wasn't all that much to say about it. The archives, downstairs. The reception area, the room where records were kept, etc. The people were very friendly, but all busy, so no more than a quick introduction and a hello before those involved went their separate ways again. Akina thought they both might fall asleep before long if something exciting didn't happen. She even let a yawn escape her as she led Mazrakiel through a dimly lit corridor deep within the building. They were on the lowest level, so things like a nicely covered floor and walls didn't exist here. Plain stone was all, with uncovered lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling for what scarce illumination there was, and a single metal door on the wall that opened onto an emergency button that could activate Konoha's alarm system for high-class alerts. One more room, and they could go back upstairs so she could get to doing her work. "And this," she said after excusing herself for the yawn, "is our deepest basement. Nothing much is kept down here," here she turned the doorknob and pushed the heavy door open, "except --- LOOK OUT!!!" A huge explosion ripped through the building, and as far as Akina could tell, the epicenter was located in the room she was just about to enter. Within a split second of realizing what was happening, she turned around and tackled Mazrakiel to the ground. She thought she heard something snap, she felt something hot on the back of her leg, and she could feel the muscles in her wrist tearing as they fell to the ground. * * * * * Kaori could hear the explosion, she could smell the smoke, she could feel the entire building shake violently. Without thinking she rolled up the letter she had been writing and stuffed it into a drawer before slamming her hands onto the desk and standing up quickly. "Hey!" she called out to no one in particular. "What's going on here? What was that?" "Nothing that concerns you," a voice behind her answered. "All the late Tenth Hokage needs to worry about now is her own demise." * * * * * Akina winced, getting up off the young man she had tackled so unceremoniously to the ground. Parts of the basement were still on fire from the explosion, she could barely move her left wrist - it figured, injuring her good hand in the fall - and the back of her leg felt like it was on fire. The burn wasn't too bad, but it wasn't comfortable either. "Oi, are you all right?" she asked, coughing from the smoke.

Things had happened too quickly for him to understand what was going on. She turned the doorknob and was mid-sentence before suddenly charging Mazrakiel and knocking him to the ground. He heard... he felt... a large explosion, and before his senses could register the flames escaping from the room in front of them, Akina had her arms around him. He suddenly felt the weight of his legs sweep out from underneath him as Akina dived at him, tackled him and held him to the ground, covering him from the blast.
He let out a roar of pain. As Akina tackled him to the ground, she managed to twist his arm uncomfortably, and when they hit the ground together it snapped it with a loud CRACK! The building rumbled slightly as the room they were about to enter was consumed with flame and smoke.
He didn't think he was going to die. It all happened too fast for him to even think he was going to die.
Still yelling in pain, Akina pressed his body into the ground to shelter him from what had just happened. The flames burst out and singed the back of her leg before calming down and leaving the two alone on the hallway floor. She finally got up off him - with her wrist wasted and her leg burned.
"...are you alright?"
Mazrakiel still groaned in pain. His left arm had been twisted backward in the most painful way, most unusual way.
"AH!... my arm, it... hurts...!!!..."
He couldn't help but groan every time he tried to move. He tried to sit up, but the pain was too much. And with his arm wrapped behind his back, getting up wasn't going to be the easiest of tasks.

Kaori whirled around to face the owner of the voice, only to find that there was no one there. Are they trying to scare me? Honestly, what a dumb line.... "Over here, Kaori- dono," another voice leered from the entrance to the office. However, just as Kaori turned once again, another explosion, this one in another building, smashed its ugly self deep into the village in a tremor that Kaori was sure must have been felt on the other side of the village. I don't like the direction that came from....* * * * * "Which arm?" Akina asked as the dark corridor was suddenly lit with the eerie greenish glow of healing chakra. As carefully as she could in such a hurry she knit the muscles in her wrist back together and before long, it was good as new. She moved her hand to her leg and just as soon that, too, was perfectly healed. However, now she was completely in the dark. "Tch," she said to herself in frustration, "darned explosion just had to knock the lights out too. Hold still now," she said in a normal voice once she found Mazrakiel in the dark. This must be the injured arm. I'll just --- "Whoa!" She exclaimed as another explosion sounded not far off. She ducked and covered her head, shielding both of them from falling bits of ceiling that had already been loosened in the previous blast. What's going on here? That wasn't the building collapsing.... She gasped. "Those fiends!" She exclaimed angrily. "That sounded like...arrrgh, we have no time for this! Hold still," she told her patient, "and try to relax. Otherwise I won't be able to numb it and setting it will hurt. Alot." That was all the warning she gave him. Specialized chakra at the ready, she gently waved her first two fingers just over his shoulder. Once she found the target point, a gentle prod and a slight jolt of electrical chakra was all she needed to temporarily deaden the feeling in the affected arm. "Now, then. I'm going to help you up into a sitting position. Relax and don't try to move yourself." She did so without much problem; as small as she was, she was fairly strong. "Don't let yourself be nervous. This won't hurt at all. It will, however, sound very unpleasant." * * * * * "What is the meaning of this?" Kaori demanded, purposely making her voice shake slightly and speaking just slightly louder than was needed. If they thought they had gotten to her, then maybe.... "Just a little present," the first voice said in that irritatingly unctuous voice he had, "from a certain someone. She thought you'd like it. You do like it, don't you?" Footsteps! In one smooth motion her hand came up, grapsed her hairsticks, withdrew them from her hair, and threw them. She caught a glimpse of her attackers just before the needle-sharp sticks found their mark - and the two Kage Bunshins disappeared. "Tsk, tsk, Kaori-dono," said the leering voice gigglingly. "You should know to do better than that when your village is in trouble." Kaori had no time to react before the third and final explosion struck - right in the middle of her office. * * * * * "WHAT was THAT?" Akina exclaimed. Now not only was she dirty, anxious, and slightly sore, now she was extremely worried. "I don't even want to think about where that one came from..." But like it or not, she knew. She knew, and she didn't like it at all. Kaori-sama's office... She shook her head. "I was going to completely heal your arm, but we don't have that kind of time. Hold still and try not to tense up too much." With that she took hold of the injured arm and pulled. It didn't sound too pleasant, but the results were just what Akina had been trained in doing this for: the broken arm was now straightened back to its normal position and the bones were back where they needed to be. Without pausing she gathered chakra in her hands and put them together with a loud clap. "Ninpou - Chakra no soegi!" "There we are," she announced, taking hold of Mazrakiel's good arm and pulling him to his feet. "This Chakra Splint will keep your arm from moving around, and it'll also keep it from being injured any worse. I won't remove the deadening effect until we have you in a proper cast. Now come on! We have more important things to deal with!" OoC note: Okay, you know who you are. If you don't this will make no sense to you, but if you do, I'm ready for you any time now.

"Which arm?"
"Ah... uh... my left..."
The hallway glowed as Akina healed herself. Maz watched in wonder, still slightly paralysed from the position of his twisted arm. First her wrist, and then her leg... until the hallway fell dark again.
He could slightly feel Akina's presence in the shadows, but it was faint; Mazrakiel could feel her shadow approaching, but he was less focused on trying to find her, and more focused on the pain in his arm.
She finally found him in the dark: just as another explosion trembled the earth, but this one was weaker, more far-off. Even so, it was enough to loosen dust and bits of ceiling, which crumbled lightly around them.
"...we have no time for this... hold still!" Akina firmly told Maz. She gently prodded his arm, and all of a sudden, the feeling in his arm felt... disappeared.
She was a medical ninja. Of course. Why hadn't I picked up on that before? I mean, of course, as Kaori's apprentice, she was bound to b--...
Another explosion shook Maz out of his thoughts and snapped him back to reality. This one was louder, deeper...
"What was THAT?" exclaimed Akina.
Maz looked up, slightly worried. Akina had a hold of his left arm, his broken arm, and pulled. He heard cracking and snapping, what sounded like she was breaking his arm even more, but he couldn't feel it. She told him before that it wouldn't hurt, and it didn't. Akina was incredibly skilful. He heard a loud clap, and Akina's voice: "Ninpou – Chakra No Soegi!"
She pulled him to his feet, and told him she'd placed a Chakra Splint on his arm. He trusted her... almost, admired her ability to keep in control... and with no-one else to follow, he would follow every word she said.
"Now come on! We have more important things to deal with!"
"Yes, Akina-sama."
It may not have been his place to ask, but he was already tangled up in the web of events. As he followed behind her, he asked Akina what was happening.

Smoke filled the Hokage's office, poured out the shattered windows and covered anything with a thick layer of gray. A few flames licked the bookshelves - Thank goodness those were just copies and not the originals - and other than that, Kaori couldn't see at all. Crouching behind her desk, she had had just enough time to put up a quick barrier ninjutsu that surrounded the desk and protected both her and its contents from harm. Having served its purpose, the shield dispelled and Kaori focused chakra to the seals on her face. She had to do this quickly, and if she mistimed it....
Ready to spring into the action, she snuck around the desk to where her hairsticks lay on the ground, a clear syrupy liquid leaking out the ends. Not much had leaked out though, which meant she had more than enough poison to do these idiots in. The smoke was beginning to clear now, and she could see shadowy figures moving in the blur.
"Come out, come out, wherever you are, Kaori-dono," the simpering voice cooed. "We'll find you eventually, you know," the unctuous one snickered.
"Not if I get you first." With that, Kaori released the Tensei seal on her face. She could feel the chakra moving as the marks spread to cover her face and most of her body. She fed even more chakra into it now, so delicately that most shinobi wouldn't even be able to sense it. It was a powerful jutsu, and when combined with the hairstick needles, it was easily one of the deadliest in Kaori's arsenal.
Sure enough, the smoke cleared, and the genjutsu struck. The two were paralyzed, trapped in the illusion created by the chakra swirling through her seal. She paused to get a good look at her enemies: Mr. Unctuous was short and rather stocky with a scar twisting his mouth into a permanent sneer, while Mr. Leery was tall and lanky with eyes that seemed to be perpetually squinting. Kaori chuckled. "Do you even have any idea what the Tensei name means? What the Hokage title means?" She twirled the hairsticks in her hands. "No, I thought not." The needles flew, and the two would-be assassins fell to the ground. The poison would kill them in a few minutes.
She sighed and made ready to leave and investigate the explosions when she heard footsteps in her office.
OoC: Okay hun, it's your turn now! Sorry for the wait!

It was the first day in several weeks that Aijou had off. With everything going on, the war being over, a new Hokage in office, it had been incredibly hectic, allowing no time for family or friends, or time to sleep in for that matter. He opened his eyes a sliver to glance at the clock...6:30...Time to go back to sleep until noon. He rolled over, pulling the covers over his head, caccooning himself up inside. It felt so nice and warm and comfy. He fell asleep again quickly, wrapped up snug in his bedding, dreaming pleasantly for awhile, until an incredible boom echoed through the air, sending a huge tremor through the entire apartment building. Aijou shot up, still stuck underneath his covers. He struggled for a moment to get himself untangled, and fell to the chilly floor with a loud thud. Flailing his arms about, he managed to throw the mass of linen off and scramble to his feet. Realizing that something didn't feel quite right, he quickly pulled on his ANBU uniform and grabbed his katana and headed out the door.
As he sprinted towards the Hokage's office, two more explosions went off. One seemed more distant, but the other one...The Hokage!
He finally reached the building. Smoke and ash filled the air and debris plummeted towards the earth. Aijou sprinted up to Kaori-sama's office as fast as he could possibly go, blowing large masses of rubble away with quick jolts of lightning as he went. Finally he reached the office and he hurried in.
"Hokage-sama!" he called out, as he made his way carefully through the debris.
What he saw through the haze of smoke astounded him. Two men lay dead on the ground in front of the Hokage, with her hairsticks jutting out from their bodies.
"Hokage-sama!" He sighed in relief, and took several steps forward, gazing around at the destroyed office. "What happened?"

Kaori ran a hand through her now loose and disheveled hair. "Complete and utter chaos, that's what," she said, walking over to the two assassins and nudging one with her foot. "These guys showed up right after the first explosion, and didn't bother showing themselves until I had them cornered. But more importantly than that, I still don't know what exactly was attacked. The second explosion worries me the most, because it came from--" she stopped. Someone was coming. * * * * * "Come on, this way!" Akina shouted as she ran through the smoke-filled hallway, dragging Mazrakiel along behind her by his good arm. They darted up a back staircase and out onto the upper floors of the building where the offices were. "You don't know that exists, got it?" As soon as they emerged from the doorway they were bombarded with swarming people and their persistent questions: "Akina-sama, are you all right?" "What happened down there?" "You look filthy! Were you there when it went off!" "Did you see anyone?" "Have the ANBU been contacted yet?" "Everything is under control," Akina assured them, trying to squeeze past. Normally she could duck under them and escape, but now she was guiding someone else as well. "Now," she said, sounding as commanding as possible in the current situation, "if you'll excuse me, I need to check on Hokage-sama immediately. Please remain calm and stay away from the basement for now. Understand?" Various replies of "Yes, Akina-sama" and "Understood!" rippled through the dispersing crowd and Akina led her young charge down the hallways, up the public staircase, and into the office. What she saw there, she was not prepared for. "Kaori-sama.... what on Earth happened in here?" * * * * * The trademark clicks of Akina's high heels signaled the return of the two from their tour. In all this excitement, she had completely forgotten.... "Kaori-sama.... what on Earth happened in here?" Akina asked as they came in, but Kaori cut her off. "More importantly than that, are you two all right? Was anyone hurt?" She put a hand to each of their foreheads in turn, using expertly tuned Chakra to fully diagnose the status of each. "We'll have to do something about that smoke inhalation and bruising," she said matter-of-factly, and with a look at Mazrakiel's arm held in place with a chakra splint, "and we'll definitely have to do something about that. What on earth happened down there anyway? Don't tell me.... you were there?" Akina nodded. Kaori sighed. "This just gets stranger by the moment, doesn't it?" She shook her head and then turned to Mazrakiel. "And you? How are you feeling?" * * * * * Once she was sure that Kaori-sama was all right, Akina went to survey the two dead men lying on the floor. The ANBU member there - it was hard to tell behind the mask, but she thought maybe it was Yanagawa-san. People weren't supposed to know, of course, but she and Kaori-sama knew everyone in the village. "So," she said to him, "any idea as to what this all is about, or are you as clueless as I am?"

Iro sat on the sill of his open window. The sounds of Konoha echoed around him as the village finally began to stir. It had been a long time since he had simply sat back and listened to the world. He had been using his chakra to see and sense for so long that it had become so natural. He couldn't remember the last time he had dine this. It was so peaceful, so relaxing. He heard the patter of small feet only a few seconds before one of his cats joined him on the sill.
"Hey there Hugo" he said as he passes his hand across his cats smooth back. His cat curled up in his lap, and proceded to promptly fall asleep. He couldn't blame him, it was a nice day out. The sun beamed directly onto the sill, but the heat was calmed by a slight breeze. Today was a perfect example of the true peaceful air of Konoha.
As if to spite his previous thought, the ground shook as an enormous rumble racked the village. His cat leaped from his lap as the entire village seemed to freeze in mid step. Iro had no idea where the explosion came from, it seemed to eminate throughout the entire village. As the ground finally seemed to finally cease trembling, it was again racked by a second explosion. This time, the viallge around him was thrown into a panic. Shouts came from the first floor of his families house. Shortly after the second explosion erupted, it was followed by a third, more prominent explosion. This one was easy to place, and had definately dome from Hokage-sama's building.
Iro leaped from the window where he had previously been resting. His chakra was pulsing, and he could vaguely make out the shapes of villagers rushing around in utter confusion and chaos. Iro quickly tied his forehead protector over his eyes and ran off in the direction of the third explosion. He had no idea what he could do, but he knew he had to find out what was happening.

Akina grabbed Maz, and they climbed a staircase Maz hadn't noticed on his way down. As they climbed the flight of stairs, Akina turned to Mazrakiel and spoke. "You don't know that exists, got it?"
"Yes, Akina-sama!..."
When they emerged, they were flooded with questions and people. It almost seemed like they'd never get through them... like an endless swarm. Maz thought about using Kagetokeru to get through the masses, but Akina rose to the rescue and calmed the crowd. "Everything is under control. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to check on Hokage-sama immediately." And with that, the crowd dissipated, leaving Akina and Maz to make their way to Hokage's Office.
He didn't recognise it at first. The office was covered in a light fog of smoke, which was slowly clearing. A few fires still burned, but they weren't much. The place was a mess. It looked like it'd been hit by a bomb.
...wait a sec...
"Kaori-sama... what on Earth happened in here?"
"More importantly than that, are you two all right?"
As the conversation took place, Maz surveyed the room. Some of the books Kaori had introduced him to before had been burned, some were still burning. It was a good thing they were only copies.
"This just gets stranger and stranger by the moment, doesn't it?" Kaori shook her head, and turned to Maz.
"And you? How are you feeling?"
Maz was still a bit shaken, but he was fine. He was busy trying to put things together in his mind about what had just happened. He'd almost forgotten that his arm was wasted.
"I'm... fine, thanks to Akina-sama." He smiled.
"Then again, it's thanks to Akina-sama that this happened," – he motioned towards his dead arm – "...but, mind you, things could've been a lot worse were it not for her. I... almost didn't see the explosion coming."
He told Kaori the story of how Akina, upon realising the bomb in the room ahead of them, dived at Maz and tackled him to the ground. He said how she healed them both before making their way to the office – he didn't mention that Akina had taken him up the back staircase. He also said that when they were almost there they were swarmed by people who seemed to have hundreds of questions, and how Akina took control of the situation.
He looked at his desk. It was ruined. It lay on the ground, the top of it completely blackened, and the legs twisted backward.
"Lovely day to start work, eh?" He smiled emptily.
"Is there, anything I can do, Hokage-sama?"

Kaori nodded. "As a matter of fact," she said, "there is." She pointed to the chair behind her desk, which was perfectly fine thanks to the barrier ninjutsu. "Sit."

As Iro drew closer to the Hokage's building, he could smell the scent of smoke and fire. He could feel the heat of the few fire that were still ablaze. As he reached the base of the building the noise of the still confused villagers was nearly painful. They all merged together as one large mass, indistinguishable from this small of a chakra emanation.
As he began to concentrate more chakra, he could distinguish one of the areas attacked...
...
But... how could that be? That's Hokage-sama's office!

Aijou continued to look around, trying his best to come up with some sort of explaination of what had happened. Kaori-sama's assissant, Akina, along with a tall, dark-haired young man had entered into the office soon after he had and were now speaking with the Hokage.
I can't believe it! He thought as he continued to survey the room. This...is just...
He shot a glance over at the two men that Kaori had just slain, and took a few quick paces towards them. He stood there for a moment and stared at them intently, fury growing within him. A few small flashes of white-purple lightning sparked out from behind his mask, but he surpressed them quickly.
"So," a voice spoke from behind him, "any idea as to what this all is about, or are you as clueless as I am?"
He whipped around to find Akina standing there.
He stayed quiet for a moment before answering, as he was still trying to contain his anger. He finally spoke. "I don't know exactly...but something's definitely not right...We need to stay alert...I don't think it's over yet...Not by a long shot!"
He turned away abrubtly, taking a step over the two corpses and making his way to the opposite end of the office.
"Keep a sharp eye out!" he called over his shoulder as he continued to inspect the office further.

Kaori gave the young Genin a puzzled look. "I won't bite, you know," she said wryly as she opened the large bottom drawer in her desk just enough to fish around for something with her arm. "Akina!" She called out from behind the desk. "Yes?" came the answer. "He's right. This isn't over yet. Alert the ANBU and sound the alarm. I'm declaring an S-rank state of alert, starting immediately. The two explosion sites in this building are to be sealed off to anyone who doesn't have to be involved, and the same goes for the site of the second explosion when it's found. I don't want anyone leaving this building!" "Yes!" Akina said fiercely and ran out. It would only be a matter of time before more ANBU arrived to take the two would-be assassins away and begin their investigation.
That taken care of, Kaori returned to her search through the mysterious desk drawer. At last she found what she had been looking for and brought out into the light the fruits of her search: a roll of bandages. "I don't have time to fully heal a broken bone," she explained, "and I'll most likely be treating patients with far worse injury than yours. That second blast sounded like it came from..." she shook her head. "Well, I'll need to conserve my chakra for my other patients at any rate. Now, hold still." She reached into the desk again and pulled out a bottle of some sort of liquid, a packet of powder, and a dish. She mixed the liquid and powder in the dish before soaking the bandages in the mixture, all while using just a slight amount of chakra to quicken the process. When all was ready she wrapped the broken arm in the wet bandages and smoothed it all over. Some more chakra, a couple of quick hand seals, and the liquified bandages hardened and dried to form an unbreakable cast.
"There now," she announced. "That's much better." Next was the most crucial part: using a partial diagnosis jutsu she ran her hand along the cast, checking the break before removing the splint. The chakra from the splint has already begun to heal the bone, and it was set perfectly, she thought proudly. Akina did a good job with this. Everything checking out just fine, she contributed a bit of her own healing chakra to speed up the healing process and dispelled the splint. "Now, I'm going to restore feeling and mobility to your arm," she explained to Mazrakiel. "It will be sore, but your nerves should have stopped throwing a fit by now. You'll be happy to know that you should heal fairly quickly. Are you ready?" Without really waiting for an answer - most people answered no anyways, and it really wasn't good to leave anything totally numbed for too long - she gathered the familiar electrical chakra into her fingertips and gently prodded the pressure point. "There! All done. How does it feel now?"
