Okay, so I've always wondered what sort of music you guys like. They say you can tell a person's personality by the type of music they listen (okay, I made that up. lol)... and besides, I'm just interested to see who's into what.
I'm hoping that by starting this topic we don't get into a massive war in which "Rock rules, rap SUXX0RZ and if you don't like it you can go sniff a skunk!" and vice versa. So let's be nice little children. ^_^
Who knows? You might get me hooked on one of your favorite bands... XD
Chances are possible I might, too. Am a fan of anything really. My tastes have somewhat become a little negative to most music today... but am a great fan of rock, metal, rap (if it's got a big beat), hip-hop (if it's loud. XD), techno (to a lesser extent trance... I'm more into the harder thumpier stuff) and easy listening (you know, like Norah Jones and all that). I am also the biggest fan of sad music on this side of the universe. Period. The other side I'm not too sure... but this side I most definitely am. XD
Am always up for some blues and jazz as well. My family's always been very musical, and my father taught me to open my ears to many a musical idea. I'm also into classical. Classical rocks. XD
I also like my music relatively artistic... or really, more complex. I'm more likely to love a song that takes several chords to play, as opposed to... a three-chord-song... or this four-chord regurgitated mush I've seen plastered all over my TV screen. I've heard one too many 1-6-4-5s or 1-4-5-4s or 1-5-6-4s. I'm also a big fan of tempo changes and odd time signatures (hence my love of jazz).
I can't stand country though (when I was a kid, my mother used to blare country music all the way up north. Stuck in a car for four hours listening to it. Yuck. XD)
Favourite bands (in no particular order, except first comes first XD)
Blindspott (a NZ metal band that ROCK! Parental Advisory: Contains Explicit Lyrics... XD)
Deftones (Chino Moreno has the coolest voice in the world. From haunting wailing to an ear-splitting lung-tearing scream.... plus he writes some strange lyrics.)
Incubus (Boyd has a nice voice. I could probably listen to him all day.)
Metallica (Yeah. I'm a Metallica fan. So what? So what? So what, so what, so what? XD!)
Joe Satriani (taught Kirk Hammett of Metallica how to play. He's a solo guitarist, he's AWESOME.)
Brooke Fraser (!!! AHHH!!! *cue fanboy screaming* XD)
A Perfect Circle (Slight touch of mainstream, but still artistic enough for my list of top bands.)
Bands I'm a fan of to a lesser extent
Linkin Park (Yeah. They're alright. I used to be into them, until I thought their songs lacked a varied structure. Plus they could never write any songs longer than 4 minutes. Hrmm. But they're okay.)
Staind (Yeah. I like these guys.)
Stylus ('nother NZ band. Nu-metallers... kinda.)
48May (NZ band. Closer to pop punk.)
Tadpole (NZ band... I see a trend emerging... XD... a band of several years. Rock with a chick lead singer.)
Evanescence (Hmm. Yeah. 'Aiight.)
Michelle Branch (Alright. Spirit Room was good... Hotel Paper was a little lacking though...)
Bands I despise with the fire of a thousand suns
Simple Plan (The last time I heard these guys on a radio, I ran out of the room screaming, curled up in the corner of my bed and cranked up the Deftones. LOUD.)
Green Day (These guys were cool. Up until Boulevard of Broken Dreams. And up until everybody I know started singing it. And it drove me nuts. Then they released Holiday, which everybody started singing. Now the mention of Green Day makes me sick. lol)
Shania Twain (Lol... this one's thanks to my mother again. She cranked up Man! I Feel Like A Woman! one too many times on the road.)
Most other bands and musicians I can tolerate, depending on the genre.
Oh, and I love Tool. I would KILL to go to a Tool concert. XD So their lyrics aren't the nicest. But they wrote the coolest song about selling out (I sold my soul to sell a record... dip s**t man, you... Bought... ONE!!! Shut up and buy my record... BUY IT, SEND MORE MONEY!!!)... and who would've thought that the most evil sounding song in German was actually just a recipe? XD
'Aiight, well, agree or disagree... I'm interested to see what y'all have to say. I won't get too defensive... lol. So I don't listen to the cheeriest of music... I'm not a bad guy...
...
...am I?
XD
